need advice on cutting up

When getting cut do you do heavy weights with low reps or ligther weights with high reps? someone told me that when you want to lean out you should lift lighter but i've also heard the oppiste and that you should be lifting heavy with low reps in order to keep the muscle on since your doing more cardio and on a lower caloire diet.

Another question is why can't you build muscle and lose bodyfat at the same time?

1) High weight, low reps. 5x5 programs work well when cutting. The theory is that by lifting heavy, your body will want to hold on to its lean body mass (i.e. muscle) because of the heavy lifting that it has to do every other day.

2) You CAN build muscle and lose bodyfat at the same time BUT it is an extremely slow process. That's why most people go through a bulking phase followed by a cutting phase, or vice versa. To build muscle, you need to be in a caloric SURPLUS and to lose fat you need to be in a caloric DEFICIT. Hard to do both at the same time...
