Need a little help :)

I really want/need to lose about 30 to 45lbs. My only problem is I'm not sure how I want to go about doing it, I've lost 90lbs before with cardio and weight lifting, but I never really got the defined look I wanted. I still feel a bit flabby. I don't want to be thin, I just want to be sort of firm everywhere, (some soft places are okay!)
So, would it be better for me to do lots of cardio, then after I've lost about 20 to 30lbs, switch to weight lifting, or should I just do both and hope for the best?

Thanks! :D

I would loose weight and then get bulk. For some reason i think if you get bulk while fat, then loose weight. You'll have some extra skin that will make it look flabby.

Hrmm.. That doesn't really make sense, as I've never had a "skin" problem. I'm only 23, so I don't really think that that can apply. Heck, I always thought that as long as you lost weight in a healthy way, you wouldn't really have skin issues.

Patience is key

If you lift weight while your losing weight, you may get discouraged because your going to be gaining muscle weight while losing fat, so the results you see, will be less dramatic.
I always tell people to lose the weight first, because the vast majority of people are impatient. Typically when you concentrate soley on losing the weight, you lose weight faster, and it helps a great deal in keeping you motivated.
Another reason to lose the weight first is diet. Most weight loss diets are not good muscle mass diets. So you can concentrate on one diet at a time. Keep in mind that when you do switch over to a weight training regiment, dont stop doing cardio.
I hope this makes sense, Im horrible at putting things into writing.

First of all, you only have one body. Its yours, and you dont get another one. Taking care of it is your responsibility, and if you dont have time, you need to make time for it.
I run 2 businesses, volunteer at various charities, have an active social life, and Im also an uncle of 4 extremely energetic kids that I spend alot of time with. I still have plenty of time to workout.
Your 23, if you dont have time now, you never will.
I workout at 5am before work, then I workout again sometime between 5pm and 10pm, depending on the day of the week. You can get a good cardio workout in 20-30 minutes. Go for a run, ride a stationary bike, eliptacle machine, tred-mill, whatever gets your heart rate up, nad gets you sweating.
Im one of those lucky people where working out is an addiction for me. Once you get a routine going, you'll feel incomplete without it. It becomes as natural as eating.
FIND TIME!!!! EVERYONE HAS SPARE TIME!!! Thats why television and video games are a trillion dollar business.

Hehee.. it's not only a time issue, it's that I spend 8 hours a day on my feet. I do not get to sit down at all, except for maybe the minute it takes me to go to the bathroom. I'm completely dead serious about that.
By the time I get home, my feet hurt so bad all I want to do is sit with them up for about a half an hour, and then I go to bed.
I have no life! :p

Well first of all, as an employer, I know In my state (Washington) it is illegal to not let your workers take 2 breaks over an 8 hour period. You get a ten minute break for every 4 hours worked, not including lunch. If your boss says no, you have every right to sue him. My employees take a half hour lunch and I tell them they are entitled to a ten minute break at 10am, and another at 2:30pm. Most of them dont take the 10 min breaks I offer, but Im required to let them if they choose, without repercussion. Check your states' rules on this.

Second, your working 8 hours a day, you sleep, Im guessing, 8 hours a night. What are you doing the other 8 hours in your day?
Do you have kids? Are you married? Im guessing that in that 8 hour period, there is time available.

Well, I live in Florida, and supposedly there's no law that says we get breaks.
Anyways, I was just looking for cardio that wasn't so hard on my feet and knees, or heck, does anyone know of good shoes?? :D

well I live in SC and I work at a plant which requires me to stand up all 8 hours, except for the two 10min breaks and one 20 min break.

Isn't it the law or something that says we should have at least 1hour for every 8 hours we work. I only have 40 min for every 8 hours I work. I work 2nd shift(3:30pm-11:30pm)
Other depts get more breaks.

No matter which 8 hour shift you have, breaks are the same. Its the law. Im an employer and I know this. I know that if I dont give my employees time to rest in acordance with state law, Im in big trouble.

I guess every state has different laws. Anyone know of a website I can look this up. I want to make sure I am being treated fair.

It does differ from state to state. It turns out only 7 states actually have break laws.
In my opinion though, if you work 8 hours, and your boss doesnt give you time to eat and at least two ten minute rest periods, you should find employment elsewhere because he doesnt care about you.

Use weights and cardio and don't worry so much about losing weight but concentrate on how you look, feel and how your clothes fit.

Try this workout 3 days a week. It is short but intense and will send your fat into melt down mode.

Use a dumbbell (I use a Kettlebell, but a dumbbell will work)
do 10-20 swings then a light 1/4 mile jog or if you don't want to go to the track use 1 minute of jump rope
10-20 snatches and repeat the jog or jump rope
5-10 push press or clean and press and repeat the jog or jump rope

All the above is one round.. Try for 4-6 rounds. The whole workout will take you 15 minutes or so. You can take a short break between sets.

You get the benefits of some weight training and an excellent cardio workout all in one. You'll look better and feel better in no time

Of course you need to watch what you eat, keep a food journal and write down exactly what you eat and how much every day and keep a workout journal as well.

Give it a try for a few weeks and let me know what you think.

Thanks for the tips, but can you tell me what you mean by swings, and snatches??

Thanks!
