Neck Question

Hey there, I'm a Highschooler and I have weight training as a substitute for PE. My question is:

Why does the base of my neck hurt when I do squats, bench presses, inclined bench presses, and shoulder excercises? If it helps, I'm 16, 5'6"/5'7", 135lbs.

It can get a bit frustrating, because I'm definitely strong for my age and I can't put in a lot of reps while doing squats, not because I'm tired, or worn out, but because my neck starts to REALY hurt and it's too much to handle. Same goes for the other excercises, just using squats as an example.

If you've experienced the same problems, know what's wrong/what to do, or anything realy,
ALL replies are welcome. And I'm sorry if this was posted in the wrong place.

Have you ever injured your neck? maybe the nerve is slightly compressed at c6/c7 which is the most common in the cervical region..

I have this problem. My neck hurts after doing a nice chest workout, i still dont know why but iv just left it and im just getting on with it. Im glad you brought this up tho as someone may have some advice on this. :)

Thanks a lot Matt, I'll look into that. If I did injure my neck, I didn't do so knowingly. My family has a hihstory of bad backs/necks, I wonder if that sort of thing can be passed on, or if we're just an unlucky batch.

I hope some more people can either approve or deny what Matt just said, or maybe even have some other reasons. Still looking for ways to help this since I'm real serious about getting into realy good shape.

Thanks,
Eggo

Be Very Careful!!! Work your way up like a train.
Slow at first then as time goes on faster.
Once your muscles adjust too working the gains will come more quickly:)
If your 14 you have plenty of time.
Don't screw it up now and do lasting damage just to lift more than you can with proper form right now.

Form is KING

And to answer your question about hereditarily YES Structural issues can come down the line.

found out what was wrong with your neck, how is it know man?
