I'm Nancy and I am 27 years old. I have been overweight since I was about 10 years old. I am getting married in a year and as all brides do want to look perfect on my wedding day. I am engaged to a wonderful man who can eat anything he wants and not gain even an ounce. He is great though and always tells me that he loves me just the way I am. So I am doing this for myself. I have lost weight before and fell into my old routine of eating whatever and how much of whatever I wanted. I also quit exercising. So I my diet of choice and what has worked for me in the past is portion control and exercise. Where I live there is a gym on site and I plan to start using it tomorrow. I also started walking today so hopefully it works, no let me rephrase that it is going to work because it has worked for me before. I hope this is as great a support system that I have heard that it is. Hope to hear from you all.

Morning Nancy,

I decided to drop into journals for added inspiration and felt the need to post a little "hello" and "hurray" to you. :) First off, congrats with wanting to change your lifestyle. You fiance reminds me a lot like my husband. He loved and supported me even though I am/ was (215lbs when we married) on the heavier side. It's so important to have that support and you're off to a good start. Just remember, be patient and don't be so hard on yourself. :) You have a positive mindset and I KNOW you'll achieve your goal.

Thank You

Thank you for dropping by to say hi. I got up this morning with a positive attitude, ate breakfast (1 cup of non sugar cereal with strawberries and a cup of coffee) then my fiance and I went a worked out. I started with 20 minutes on the treadmill followed by some weight training and then 10 min on the elliptical. I am going to have a challenge today because I am meeting my sister for lunch, but I am just going to have to look for healthy alternatives. Well, that's it for now. Talk to ya later.

Blew it

So after a great start this morning I had a cup of cantaloupe for a snack and my sister called and canceled lunch so I had a turkey sandwich with mustard and one slice of provolone cheese. Then for a snack I had a bagel with low fat cream cheese. Then I blew it, I had a coolatta and then for dinner on my way home from class I grabbed taco bell and had 3 soft shelled tacos. Well tomorrow is a new day and I will not beat myself up about falling of the wagon. I am going to take it one meal at a time. Talk to you all later.

Hi Nancy,

Welcome to WLF... you're off to a great start with a great attitude and great support at home=0)

You had a small splurge... its only one meal on one day on a very long journey... it happens ... I'm glad to see your not going to let it derail or define your journey.

One meal isn't going to kill you.. keep at it! Think of how good you had done compared to if you had just splurged all day!

Good day

I am doing great today. For breakfast I had a granola bar (I know not the best but it was what I could grab on my way to work), for a snack I had a low-fat yogurt, lunch was a turkey sandwich (on wheat bread with mustard, and one slice of provolone cheese) cottage cheese, and manderain oranges, next snack was a york peppermint patty and a diet mountain dew (I needed a pick me up and peppermint patties are low in fat and it curbed my chocolate craving), for dinner I am planning a hamburger made on my foreman grill, a salad, and some cantaloupe. I am going to take the puppies for a walk for my exercise and do some crunches, push ups, and leg lifts. All in all I think I am doing good today. I'll keep ya posted.

You know, Taco Bell isn't all that bad if you order things "fresco style." Well certain things that is.. they have a list of items that are moderately "safe to eat." I usually order a Ranchero Chicken Soft taco... sure it has sodium, but it's not like you're going to be eating Taco Bell every night, you know? A regular beef soft taco's 200 calories (180 cals if done fresco style)-

600 calories for the 3 tacos.
1c cantaloupe- 55 ?
turkey sandwhich with provolone- 400?
low fat yogurt- 150?
bagel and low fat cream cheese- 350?
coolatta (depending on which one you drank)- 300-400 cals?

Total Calories= ~2000

I mean yah... the coolatta's ALL empty calories, but it's really not at too bad if you break it down. You're doing fine... so there's no need to worry. :) Just learn from it and move on.

PS How many calories are you going with a day? Don't go too low or you'll hit starvation mode and that's SOO not fun.

Keep up the good work. I don't tell myself I can't have certain foods. If I get a craving, I'll have what I'm craving in a very small portion. So the peppermint patty is good. If you ate a whole bag, that would be bad. I've got a pint of Ben and Jerry's that's been in the freezer for over a month and I still have almost half of it left. When I get the urge, I eat a few spoonfuls and then put it back. I always stand in the kitchen and eat it--I never take and sit down somewhere--then it's all over...lol

Just stay focused and try not to eat when you're feeling down or upset. That is how many of us got to where we are. These days I get out and exercise when I'm feeling low. It always makes me feel better--those endorphins and all make you happy, not to mention it's great for your self-esteem when you know that you went out and exercised instead of scarfing down a bag of chips.:)

I am not counting calories, but I am no where near starvation mode. I am more paying attention to fat grams and portion size. Looking at your breakdown, I don't feel so bad because that is way less calories then I used to take in so thank you for making me feel better.

Hey Nancy,

yah I'm pretty much a "calorie counting fanatic." I find calorie counting to be one of the easiest ways for me to stay on track and feel good about what I'm eating. :) Heck... I have aunties who are vegetarians and they're in the 200 almost 300 lb range, so obviously calories is VERY important no matter what you eat. Anyways, I hope you're doing well.... keep up the good job, girl. :)

Disappeared

Ok so I pretty much fell off the wagon, got some bumps and bruises, and apparently bumped my head, but now I am back with a vengence. There is no way I am not going to do this :jump::jump:. I just got done watching the Biggest Loser Reunion show and I had decided to jump back on the wagon over the weekend, and after tonight I am super excited to do it. I feel like I can do this, I know it is going to be tough with school, work, and planning a wedding but I am determined to do this. I kind of half started last week with making myself eat breakfast every morning. I am going to make this a habit, if I do not force myself to do this everyday it is not going to happen. On the bright side, at least I have not gained any weight. That is how I am going to start looking at things, not with negativity, but with positivity. That's all for now.

Wholly not paragraph Batman....guess I was ranting and rambling.
