~* My Tutti Frutti Progress Thread *~

Thanks to Andy, 20to10, chubbygirl, Risty, Natsky, Fade Away, and Veronica, for all your encouraging posts. It's nice to have some positive reinforcement!! :)

So last night, I was feeling a bit guilty about the food so I did my workout dvd and worked up a bit of a sweat. Today I have been ok food wise, but I feel like I've been resisting the urge to pick at stuff all evening... dunno why I suddenly want to eat so much. At dinner I stuck to my small plate but did add a very small amount as a second helping.

All-in-all I'm a bit worried I've comprimised the diet. I haven't had anything bad but just overall eaten more the last few days. I'm thinking I'll still weigh myself in the morning though! Even though I don't think I'll have lost anything, hopefully that will shame me into getting my act together. We'll see. I need to do a bit better, anyway. Can't start slacking now!!

Sooo...

Today's Menu:

BREAKFAST: Small bowl cocopops with skimmed milk

LUNCH: Sweet n sour rice (cant remember nutritional values but they were ok!) granola bar, (84cals, 6.5g fat), and 1x banana

DINNER: Pasta bake in a tomato sauce, with mushrooms and peppers

SNACKS: Ryvitas with reduced-sugar jam

DRINKS: PepsiMax and low-sugar squash

Hey Tutti~Frutti,

Sounds like you are doing good, but are you sure you are getting enough calories.. you might want to try entering calories into fitday, it will tell you how many calories you should eat and what not, to keep your body going and than cut like two hundred calories off or so

best wishes hun
the lack of calories might be why you are hungry, just an idea ..

good luck
Natsky

Great job at keeping on with the dvds!

Have you been doing well on water? Personally, I drink 125oz a day, and it really curbs my appetite until the time I am supposed to be eating. Just keeping a water-bottle nearby when those cravings hit can keep you from grazing all day.

Also, you really can't beat yourself up for having seconds on a meal :p . Granted, sometimes its wise to give the body a few mins to let the food settle, but if you genuinally are hungry, then have seconds guilt free! Fact is, if you are hungry, you should eat something. Also, a tip that has worked for me is eating high protein meats (chicken for me). If I eat a meal centered around a baked chicken breast at 7:30, I will literally be sated for the rest of the evening. Just some personal experience :p Good luck with your journey this week Tutti!

Thanks guys. I think I am getting enough calories Natsky, because I've been eating the same for weeks and have felt I'm eating enough, just for some reason the last few days I've felt my control on it slipping!! :piggy:

Andy, that's some helpful advice. I'm drinking the water but not as much as I should be - something I need to work on. :) I'm also not getting a lot of protein because I am a fussy eater and really dont like chicken or fish... again, something I should address!! But I will try to incorporate those things into the next few days and see if they curb the naughty cravings.

Tomorrow evening is my step class, which I'm looking forward to. I love that I have found a workout that not only works me hard and burns plenty of calories, but is really enjoyable. It's a good feeling when I leave the class!! x

Today's Menu:

BREAKFAST: 1x banana

LUNCH: Mushroom cous-cous, small tub of grapes, and 1x Special K Bar

DINNER: Jacket potato with some pasta in sauce... all carbs, not very good.

SNACKS: 1x packet of low cal/fat crisps, some leftover brocolli (I might have something else this evening but not sure what yet)

DRINKS: PepsiMax, low-sugar squash, water

Tutti~Frutti, its probably the lack of protien. Protien makes you feel full .. u know ... try some more protien ...

Your doing good hun!
Keep it up .. you will probably see a loss again ...

Hey Tutti I'll answer over here, I started January 2 years ago. That was when I weighed myself at the Drs and he told me I had a lifestyle problem, plus I got diagnosed with coeliac disease. So since I had to change my food anyhow, I decided to try to lose weight and it worked quite well. I lost about 20 pound in the first few months doing mainly gym cardio (elliptical) and swimming, then I ran a 5 k for breast cancer. It was good. I moved to Ghana about 9 months into it and there my weight went down quite dramatically in the beginning and then back up. It mirrored my lifestyle, first I was very active and also got sick quite a lot and then had a little depression and barely moved for about a month of my stay over there.
I came back to Europe and needed a few months to get into my life so to speak. I found a job to pay for my specialty training and dance classes only in december so I started about at the same weight I had left off 15 months earlier when I left for Africa. So while it has been 2 years since my journey started only about 9 months of that was active weight loss effort and I maintained more or less, did not gain huge amounts back, which is a great achievement in itself.

I really hope this new active busy lifestyle is going to unveil the woman I know I am, the skinny little thing... ;)!

Back to you now, I think your breakfasts could be a bit more nutritious, you could try some muesli instead of cocopops to give you more energy and fuel for the day. But in the edn remember you know your body best and if you want cocopops and hate muesli, then keep eating what you like and works for you!
Have a great day, Camy

Yeah protein is very important. Like I mentioned earlier, try quinoa. It's like couscous, you can eat it in the exact same way as couscous, but it has a better protein content.

Tutti~Frutti,
There is this cereal by Kellogs,

its K-Protien cereal, one cup has like ten mg or grams of protien. It really gets me going in the morning. My friend bought me four boxes because she saw it on sale lmao ...

but the package is part blue and white and the part that says protien is brown and it has a ruler and numbers on it

but it brings my protein up so much, that sometimes I have more protien than fat ..its amazing ..

the only thing I am lacking is Vitamin E and vitamin E helps skin heal, which means the stretch marks are less noticeable. They dont go away, but your skin comes in with weights and Vitamin E. I am going to start taking, because I have a HUGE deficiency, could explain the problems I have with my skin... have you tried fitday.com

it tells how much of your vitamins you are getting. I get a full dosage, even over, because I eat mostly health food. Sometimes I break it ... but usually I am right on top of it.

varies really

but look for the cereal .. it could benefit you so much!!

Natsky
and btw ..thanks for your positive post on my diary. It really made me smile .. for a while I thought I was invisible ..than I realized .. people just didnt know what to say. So a tranformation was in order ...
thanks again... you kick buttocks! lol :hurray::hurray::hurray:

Thanks ladies. I dont expect the cereal is avaiable here, but I will keep an eye out for it. :) Ok, copops wasn't a great example of a breakfast admittedly :smilielol5: but if you look back through my menus I've only had that two days since I started out!! Most days I'm on Crunchy Nut, although I may switch and have Special K for a while as that's probably better for me. :) I'm not a huge fan of healthy healthy foods and things like dried fruit I detest!! I'm afraid museli is never going to appear on my menu... but yeh, Special K I can stretch to!

Well the situation is as bad as I thought - in fact worse! Checked my weight this morning to see 189.6 on the scales. That's 1.8lbs up in four days!!! :banghead: I'm hoping it's partly a fluke as I ate a heavy dinner last night, but I'm not taking any chances on this so I'm going to take worst case scenario and tell myself I've put all that on from my over-sized portions. Here is the evidence of my complacancy, in black and white!!

So I'm back on it with a vengeance before the weigh-in on Sunday, to see if I can't burn that couple away again. All good food and SMALL portions today, and step class tonight...

I have reluctantly moved my poor ticker and want to move it back asap! Wish me luck!! :( xx

Hey! You're doing great so far! Don't worry about the gain... like you said, you had a heavy dinner so it's probably just that. So don't sweat it..... well... sweat it out at that step class tonight ;) Woo! Have fun :D

Dont worry about the temp blip up. I usually have my cheat meal on saturdays, and its almost amusing to see how ridiculously high my weight goes from all the water and food I retain in my body. Talking like 3-4lbs. Over the next 2-4 days it WILL level out. Just make sure you get your water in to flush yourself out, and remember that consistency is the key.

Its all the more reason to the take daily scale measurements with a grain of salt. I only start to worry if I have weekly trend in the same (up) direction. You gotta remember that just because the scale says youre up 1.8lbs, does NOT mean its 1.8 in fat.

Keep up the dedication. Youre doing wonderful :D

Thanks skkroll, Andy. I'm not panicking as I know it's not an exact science, but I HAVE taken it as a kick up the backside to get me back on track.

So today I've stuck to good food and done my step class. :) x

Today's Menu:

BREAKFAST: Small bowl crunchy nut with skimmed milk

LUNCH: Small tub of leftover pasta bake with veg

DINNER: Small plate of meat-free spag bol

SNACKS: 2 Weetabix with skimmed milk (early evening, to tide me over until after step!)

DRINKS: Low-sugar squash

My weight can fluctuate too, that's why if I weigh myself inbetween my weigh in day I don't actually count it. If it's that same weight on my weigh in day, then I'll change it. But weight can fluctuate so much that it's hard to know if it's water, or you gained. I'm gonna weigh myself on Sat (for midweek) just to see how I'm doing, but I won't change my weight on the ticker until my tues weigh in.

Ohh, I see what you mean. I weigh twice a week, but I get too excited when I see a loss to resist changing the ticker!! :D

Today's Menu:

BREAKFAST: 2 weetabix with skimmed milk

LUNCH: Mushroom couscous, 1x banana, and light Phili splendips (130cals, 3.5g fat)

DINNER: Potato bake with sweetcorn, mushroom, brocilli and peasss

SNACKS: Low-fat choc mousse (had to fix those choc cravings!!)

DRINKS: Low-sugar squash

Soooo not too bad :) ate a little more than I should of the potato bake, but the other portions were good and managed to keep the snacking to a minimum so not too bad today. It's been a challenge though... still wanting to eat loads, I just can't seem to shake this feeling. Oh well... I'll just have to stick it out until it passes. :p

Hope all is well for everyone! x

Its so funny how so much of your food is very unusual to me, I think its because I live in the States. For example, I have NO idea what weetabix are. or phili spledips. or couscous. Its all pretty interesting lol.

Keep up the good work Tutti! Remember its OK to eat if youre hungry, but protein and water can help you go a long way in keeping satisfied :D

I live in Canada and we have Weetabix here. I actually used to eat them. You can find them in the cereal isle. They're not the tastiest things you'll ever eat. But it's a great way to get your fibre and it's easy to portion control with those things! If I'm remembering the right cereal, they come in large chunks/blocks/whatever you wanna call it, so I would eat two for breakfast soaked in skim milk. You get used to the flavor. lol You may have them there, you probably just weren't looking for them ;)

Tutti - Yeah I know what you mean by getting excited and wanting to put the ticker down. I get excited too. But I know that if in 3-4 more days it's still that way, I know it was a weight loss and not just a fluctuation!

Hey Tutti~Frutti,

Looks like the portion sizes are looking good. I know you made a gain, but think you can lose it again and think ... positive...... because I see you as a VERY strong person, and I know you will be able to kick butt ,and kick the extra weight to the curb hun. Your awesome!:hurray::hurray::hurray:

Keep it up hun!

always
Natsky:hurray:

Thanks you three!! Ha, yes you're thinking of the right thing Risty. I'd think they have them in the states even if under a different name - as Weetabix is the brand name, most of the shops here do their own brand of them two.

Cous cous is similar to rice but tiny grains and healthier than white rice...
DSCN5319-776663.JPG
(cant seem to make that piccy show up!)

And Philidelphia/Philidelphia light are cheese spreads... I'm sure I saw them in the states but maybe not. They do dip pots with the light Phili, which are low fat/cal and very tasty - this one had mini poppadoms, with light phili and mango chutney to dip them in. :D

Lol it may sound Alien but its not, honestly! :D

Ok so I have had a change in direction people. Yesterday I STILL couldn't seem to shake the urge to eat rubbish, big portions, etc. In the end I thought about it and decided the best thing to do would to be to indulge a lil bit, get it out my system and then get back on track properly. Sooo, yesterday I let myself have a few tasty treats - some toffee popcorn, and a packet of (low fat mind!) crisps, and I even had some low-fat spread on my jacket potato at dinner. :) And I think, THINK, it's worked... today I feel really ready to get back into what I should be eating.

Soooo, I've had a healthy breakfast and have a good lunch and dinner planned. Let's see if I can kick some fat ass this week and dump a couple of lbs by next Sunday!!!! Feeling very motivated again now.:hurray:

And thanks everybody for keeping the moral support coming - it's horrible to feel you're going off track (as I'm sure you all know!) so it's been good to check in and see people encouraging me to keep going! :blush5: :rotflmao:

Weighing in at 189.2lbs now so down a LITTLE bit. Watch this space... x

MMMM Philidelphia light is nice :)

well done restricting your treats and not bingeing along with a loss, great work !!

Tutti,
I try to go by, if my body really really needs something, I give it. Because there often is a reason why we crave stuff, sweets because our blood sugar is low or salty because our metabolite household is unbalanced.
I had a day last week where I just needed more than 1500 cals, I ate my 1500 and it was good but I was just still hungry, waited for a while then fed my body another 300 cals and I was full and happy and the next day I could go back to 1500 without a problem. And I always say, live your life now the way you will once your at goal weight, will you at goalweight have a treat every now and then? If yes, allow for it nwo too, not in huge amounts, just sometimes, but allow it. If you are planning never ever ever to have treats again, then obviously don't allow it. But what kind of life is it when one is skinny but unhappy because you never get a treat?

You are doing fantastic otherwise (oh and I am convinced there is Philadelphia cheese in the US), keep up the good work for another week, you know you can, I know you can... so no doubts there. Have a wonderful sunday afternoon, Camy
