My turn! 30lbs down... Who knows what to do next

I've been doing some serious lurking on this forum for the last 4 months and figured it was my turn to participate. Some of the hard work and results I've seen on this site are phenomenal and helped me work toward my goal.

Little background:

I was the skinny kid my entire life. 100lbs dripping wet out of highs school and gained very little weight during my 5 years in the NAVY. I separated from the Navy in 2002 weighing 135. I could eat and drink anything I wanted with very little worry of weight reprecussions. When my wife and I found out she was pregnant we both quite smoking asap. This was in 2004. Over the last 4 years my weight as slowly crept up to 175lbs. There were several factors that led to this, unhealthy eating habits, a lot of beer, no exersize, and quite a bit more beer. I was quite unhappy with this large gut wrapped around my stomach. It was embarrassing for me, I didn't even like to go out to the beach. I understand some people are fighting much larger demons then my own, but in my mind, it was the same fight.

Why the change:

My wife was deployed to Iraq in May of this year for a 7 month deployment. I had tried several times to lose wieght but nothing worked. My attempts were half assed at best. This time I wanted her to come home to the guy she married! Not the beer gut clad one in the house when she left. So after she left I made an appointment with a personal trainer, changed my diet drastically, and have been sticking to it! The results speak for themselves.

Only thing is now I think I looked starved. I'm so confused!

Please just take this as a compliment, but... Rawr!!!

I think your wife will be quite pleased when she comes home.

I don't think you look starved. Slender, yes, and you also looked great at 150. If you wanted to put on a little muscle (without bulking too much, you don't need to!)... well... double Rawr! :biggrinjester:

Cute kid!

Looks like you've got some fantastic ink too. I'd love to see more pics of that. (huge tattoo fan here)

Sorry, should have added my height. I'm 5'11

Building muscle. That's where I'm starting to wonder what my next step is. From what I've been reading, I'm going to need to start eating some serious calories to start bulking. I'm currently at 1600-1900 cals a day right now and afraid if I start eating 3k cals a day as some places suggest I'd be right back where I started.

I do need to do something though. Ribs aren't the most attractive things. (unless covered in bbq sauce with garlic toast!)

Wow good job sperz, you look great haha!

Congrats on the transformation and good luck in your future endeavors!

You look very good, not starved at all. Just about right I would say, and I have to agree with what Phoenix wrote, I have a feeling your wife will be quite happy when she comes home! ;)

Good job on the weight loss, you can be proud of yourself!!

Job well done. Your weightloss has made a big diff on you. I am sure your new diet meant you had to cut out a lot of that beer, right? Good for you for focusing on better yourself while your wife is away defending our country. I pray for her safe return and thank her dearly for what she does.

Very good job! This may sound crazy but it looks like you have more muscle mass at 150 than at 144. Maybe the diet it taking away lean muscle mass that you don't want to lose. Or maybe it is just an illusion. Ask your personal trainer, I bet he/she can put you on a diet that can help you "sculpt" now that you've lost the weight. I'm jeleous, very well done!

Wow - great progress.

Can I ask what you were doing as far as exercise to lose the weight? Cardio? Running? etc... How much/often? I've always heard those last few pounds of fat are the hardest to lose and I would like to know what other people had to do for the day I arrive at that point :)

Before I gained weight I weighed 160 pounds. Everyone thought I was too skinny, but underneath my clothes I still had fat around my midsection. When setting goals this time around and trying to figure out what my end weight would be I contemplated going below 160. I am near the same hight as you and your post really helped me see what level i would be at in the 170's 60's 50's and 40's.

THANKS!
