My squat technique

Hello people!

My first post here, hello everyone :). So I am 22 years old and am doing Starting Strength 3x5. Here is a video of my squat techique, what do you think?

Very nice depth. Your elbows flare back, though, try to get them to point along side your torso and puff your chest out more.

Camera angle is a big weird, so I can't comment on foot stuff.

Hmm I hadn't noticed the elbow thing before, although my left elbow sometimes hurt during warm-up, so maybe the pain is related to that. As for the chest up, I know I sin on that but its hard not to... Thanks for the comments btw!

It definitely would be easier to make a better critique if filmed from another angle, with feet visible.

Things I can't tell:
- Is the weight on your trapezius or your deltoid? It should be on your deltoid, which both better grips the bar to your back and promotes chest elevation, which is the aim.
- Are your feet aligned properly?

Things I can tell:
- You've got good depth, and your back appears to be in a pretty natural position (This is good), but towards the bottom, your butt tucks under slightly. Your erector spinae seems to be resisting this, but it is a sign that you need to stretch hamstrings and glutes.

As a beginner it doesn't look too bad. There are a few things that could be changed though. I believe it is important to sit back on the heels and have the but travel backwards. It would also be nice, if you could stay a little tighter as you come out of the hole. The camera angle does make it difficult to see other aspects of the squat. But from what I could see, there didn't look to be much lateral movement in the knees, so I would bet the feet are fairly good as well.

Keep the good work and good luck

The weight is on the deltoids, low bar style squats the way Mark Rippetoe says how you should do it. And my feets are aligned, thats why I look down at the beginning of the video to make sure of this.

Also, yeah I noticed the butt winks, but I bought the Starting Strength DVD and noticed that nearly everyone in the Squat video has this as well, and Rippetoe didn't comment on it either (And I seen a video of himself doing squats and the same thing happens) so I thought it was all good. Do you recommend any stretches I can do to make this better?

What do you mean by staying a little more tighter on the way out of the hole? I try to maintain good core tension by taking a big breath and flex my abs before I go down, are there anything else I need to worry about as well? Also, I think the knees are good. I try to look down so if I see my knees buckling inwards I make sure to push them out.

Thanks for the feedback guys! Much appreciated! :)

Just had a look at the video. Your knees are going past your feet. How about decresing the weight so you can grasp the technique?
