My Recovery from Obesity

Haha Golden Sex Links, huh? That made me laugh! How cool that you are raising chickens! My city just lifted a "chicken raising ban" that had apparently been in place for sometime. Lots of people are really excited to raise their own chickens now. I don't think chickens would do too well in the backyard of my apartment complex...landlord probably wouldn't be too pleased either ha!

You asked in my thread about baseball teams! I am a true Wisconsin girl at heart! Brewers & Packers! I see you are out in Oregon...Mariners & Seahawks? Your Seahawks gave us some grief during football season! ;)

Yay for being another pound down! And that all definitely qualifies as exercise! Great work!

I m with MrVee on that.. it took me a second... i was like WTF? hahahaa!! :D

Thanks for sharing your recipe & the photo - it looooks so yummy!

Good job on the exercise!

Hi everybody, thanks for dropping by. Yesterday was UGLY. I finished out OK, but I worked all day in the yard burning a year's worth of tree trimmings and yard debris... that was after the annual Community Easter Egg Hunt in the a.m. I absolutely, positively got my 4 hours of exercise in. In fact, I didn't stop until after 8pm, so I missed a proper lunch and dinner... just snacked occasionally as I could. I *really* don't know how much water I took in... probably right around 3-4 liters, but it's a blur.

Today, I'm sore, scratched up, and down 0.6 lbs. I am at 389.6, so I have left behind the 390s! Unless it comes back after Easter dinner. I will try to do well, even though I'm cooking some tempting food for the family.

Happy Easter, everybody. Take a day of rest.

EDIT: Camila, I'm a college ball guy, but I prefer the Niners (for a few decades) and the Giants. I'm from the Bay Area in California, originally.

Hey Don,

Could we know each other? Dun DunDUNNNN! Where in the bay were you from? I was born in San Francisco, lived in Vallejo, and now in Hercules. I love the weather, although a rain storm just passed. Some days I walk out of my house and think I went to heaven cause the weather was so nice!

Hey Laura! I'm from waaay out in the East Bay.... Antioch. I spent about 18 years there before moving away. I still love to visit the Bay Area and LOVE the City. We were there 2X last year and will probably go back this Summer. I like where you live... close in, but you can still find open space. I miss the N. Cal weather the most.

Coolio! My hospital job is at Sutter Delta! I put in my resignation tho on Friday. Antioch is such a different feel than Hercules...I feel like I'm not even in the bay area anymore! And hot too.

I'm assuming Sutter Delta is the former Delta Memorial Hospital? If so, I remember it well... lots of youthful hi jinx sent me there at one time or another. :) Antioch is a FAR different place than when I lived there... maybe 8X more populous than when I arrived there and 3-4X more than when I moved away. It used to be a great small town. And, yes, it was HOT in the Summertime there... but I loved it. You must have a new job lined up somewhere nearer home?

Just a head's up: I will weigh more tomorrow than I did this morning... and I'm Ok with that. :)

I made Easter dinner for the family and opted to eat with everyone. Baked Ham, Oven Roasted Carrots & Parsnips w/ Rosemary, Potatoes Au Gratin, & Caesar Salad. For dessert my sister brought a delicious homemade (from scratch) Carrot Cake. Urp! So, for the fifth straight Monday, I expect my weight to be up rather than down. I did my best, going light on the potatoes and the cake, but it'll cost me.

I hope everyone had a good Easter. I did.

Glad you had a good Easter! The food sounds great. :p I think it's fine to let yourself enjoy the bad-for-you holiday food.

Four pound gain overnight! Blech!!

I knew it was coming, but it still sucks to see a big swing in the wrong direction. Oh well, I guess that I'll spend next 3 days getting the water weight and Ham out of my system. :)

The good news is I started a new DietBet Challenge today, and my weigh-in is artificially bloated as a result of the dinner. That'll make the first week of losing easier. The first challenge ends in a few days, and I'll be successful in that one. This second one costs more to bet ($50) so I have more incentive to finish and lose 4% in 28 days. Wish me luck.

Also on the good news front, I think I have no more big Sunday Dinners planned in the coming weeks... this marks a run of 6 straight weeks we had big family dinners on Sundays that cause my weight to jump that Monday. Next Sunday dinner I think I'll have a salad. ;)

Nevamind the gain - one should have a fab meal now and again. Knowing you, you will drop that in no time. Your Easter dinner sounds soooo yummy!!

4 pounds? and you havent even had kakaos kalacs yet?!!1
I gained 2 as well - I think it's ham weight for me too - water retention : too much salt...from yesterday. I better step up the exercise!! & the water levels.
Yep i agree - about big dinners - I am starting to have big lunches! & light dinners with exercise in the afternoon!!

You will have that weight off in no time, Don! :) It seems like it was worth it though...that dinner sounds absolutely divine! Must be a bit of a relief to know you have the next few weeks off, at least! Hope the rest of your week is fantastic!

~Camila~

Oh yes - we have to splurge sometimes. Just keep on top of it is my motto. Don't go several weeks without weighing (or just watching it). I have some free days now and then myself. :)

Don, I read through your diary thread yesterday and am really impressed with your progress and approach so far. Your success so far is very encouraging to me.

Don't worry about the slight gain yesterday...it'll drop off quickly I'm sure.

Thomas, right? Thanks for dropping by. If you find something inspirational or encouraging, then that is awesome. IF I can do it, so can you. There's no magic. It just takes a plan, a commitment, and the desire to be healthier that is greater than your desire to not try. I don't starve, I don't look forlornly over a plate of green salad at everyone else's T-bone steak.... OK, maybe that happens occasionally. :)

I have more good days than bad, and I keep the bad days to just bad.... not awful. Good luck and let me know if I can help.

Ham will definitely do it to you. Nothing to bloat you up like salty pig meat. :p

This made me laugh. We speak similarly. :)

Amy, thanks for stopping by again! I think I've had enough spoil me days for awhile. Seems like there's been one "reason" to eat big every week for a month and a half! Time to start grinding again.

Hi Camila & Mands! Oooh, the dinner was SO good... and I do miss salt. But I really NEED to minimize these days! I went UP four pounds Monday, then back down 3.4 pounds today.... Weeeee! Like a roller coaster.

4 pounds? and you havent even had kakaos kalacs yet?!!

Not yet, Justina. But it's not a matter of "if"... it's a matter of "when". Kakaos kalacs is now on my LIST. Some people make a Bucket List with things like Mountains to Climb, or Planes to Jump From. Not me, my list includes Things I'm Going to Eat.

---------------

Quick update: Today's weigh-in shows I re-lost 3.4 of the 4 pounds I gained yesterday. I love salty meals to throw my weigh-in numbers around. For breakfast yesterday, I had a smoothy (strawberry, banana, apple, carrot and cucumber), then followed a low sodium day of fruit and veg, then drank like a fish to wash the sodium from my system. Seems to have worked OK. I was trying to minimize sodium all day and flood my body with water.

This morning I ate a big spinach and mushroom omelet and am planning a homemade Thai Green Curry for dinner around 5pm. No rice, just chicken and veg. Otherwise, drink water and try for two workouts.

mmm your easter din dins sounded delish! ,As everyone else has said you have to enjoy life and treat your self from time to time.
glad to hear most of it has dropped off again
keep up the awesome work =)

i actually laughed out loud!! too funny!!! I love planning on eating out! Such great experience!!
My sister is hopefully sending me the recipe for kakaos kalacs - she used to do it all the time...I bought mine...but i wouldn't mind making it on my own from scratch!
