Hey everyone, Here's some quick info:

Name: Meagan
Height: 5,5'
Age: 15
Weight: 198 :( (When started)
Current Weight: 190
Weight lost so far: 8 lbs

Weight to go: 69lbs

Yea so I'm not quite sure how many people would actually read this, But my brother suggested this site to me because its been working for him. So I thought I might as well try this, after all what have I got to loose other then time to exercise? lol. But yes I am desperate to loose weight, Ive always been overweight and I've noticed it is the reason I don't like to go out anywhere, Socialize, and do things. I have lost weight before, by not eating anything except dinner. I was 180lbs and went down to 160lbs with daily walks about half an hour each at 9:00pm and this took about...3 months? I ended up gaining the weight back because starving yourself doesn't solve it once you begin to want to eat!

So I'll try to do a Daily Calorie Intake post and figure out an exercise plan and see how this works out. Wish me luck! And the best to you all.
Everyones comments are welcome. :)

Hi Megan.

Welcome to the forum. I glad that you decided that starving yourself wasn't the way to go. If you want your weight loss to be permanent you have to make changes in your life style cause a diet is not something most people can live with, if you diet for a while and then go back to your old lifestyle then the weight will just come back on. Same with exercise you have to choose something you love doing, because if it is a chores and you don't want to do it then any excuse will be good not to do it! Counting calories is a great way to lose weight but when choosing foods looking at more then calories is very important. Just because something is low calories doesn't mean it's healthy. Eat plenty of proteines, and don't forget the healthy fat found in nuts and seeds and oil like olive oil!!!! Take it one day at a time, don't let one bad day become a bad week or make you quit. It will take time but you will get to where you want to be. I also suggest that you look at more then weight take you measuments cause if you workout you can put on muscle weight and the scale won't budge but if you take you measurments you can see improvement too, some people take pictures (you don't have to post it) I take my measurments once every 2 to 3 months. I look forward to you success!

Thanks for the advice! I forgot all about peanuts and olive oil. Thank you so much! And good luck to you :)

Would a salad with lots of veggies and a little bit of olive oil as dressing be a good low calorie dinner?

I'm not one fond of exercising but I now live with my mom, and shes got a big Burnese Mountain dog that needs lots of walking! I'm going to start off by walking her 20 minutes or so in the morning, then another 20 in the afternoon, and another 20 minutes at around 10:00pm. I also have to get some volunteering hours done for high school so I can help my mom at her work place which involves a lot of running around.

Hi Meagan

Walking is a very good exercise and one that is not expensive and you can do it almost anywhere so that is a great start, I love Burnese Mountain dogs, on day I want one but I need a bigger place to live first! I often have salad for diner I would just add tuna, chicken , or legumes or even nuts or seed cause to add protein! I would mix a bit of herb or spices with the olive oil to add taste but if you love the olive oil on it's own then go for it!!!!

Will walking just tone down legs? I cant really see how it'll help the upper body. But yes also, I do 50 sit ups with my hands at my sides after every shower.
And yes! Burnese Mountain dogs are one of the best, the ONLY downside is that they shed a lot during the spring time and they are very needy... at least my dog is lol.
<--- Thats my big girl haha. Shes about 80 pounds now.

And Olive oils pretty good on its own, Especially in Dandelion salad. But do you know of any other low calorie salad dressings? Or any other low caloried meals?

Welcome to the forum :)
There are loads of recipes in the Nutrition section so you can check there but for me personally for a low calorie meal I'm not too certain but I'm doing atkins so when I need a filling low carb meal I'll have a chicken breast on spinach watercress rocket etc with beansprouts, some tomatoes, and an olive oil dressing.
I really bulk up the meals with low veggies.
How about making up a huge batch of soup? Some tinned tomatoes, chopped onions, leeks, peppers etc and cook it all up and then jsut warm some each time you want a low but filling meal? You can pretty much throw anything in there to your taste, have it with wholemeal bread, or you can put it in a flask and take it with you if you're not going to be able to get lunch.
Something my mum uses as a dressing, which I personally don't like but you might, is olive oil, vinegar and salt all mixed in. Vinegar based ones are lighter than creamy ones.

Sorry if my post hasn't made much sense it's quite late lol

Good Luck

Thank you :) How is the Atkins diet? My mom tried it and said it worked very well for her...Unless it was the South Beach Diet? Haha can't remember. And yes! Homemade soups, I asked my dad to make one today, It was loaded with Tomatoes, Leeks, Celery, Onions, Carrots, Herbs, Spices, and all that good stuff. But how many calories would you say that is that soup is about? And I must try that dressing. Sounds wonderful, Thank you!

I'm not sure if this is a good idea, But I am going to leave all breads alone. I don't care if it's whole wheat or white lol I wont touch it. My uncle lost a lot of weight by avoiding Pastas and Breads so I think ill try it.

I woke up pretty late today, Around 1:00 I think, But the following is what I ate today.

2:30pm - 2 cups of Homemade Vegetable Soup 300 calories?
4:34pm - Banana 170 calories
7:46pm - 1/2 inch of meat 88 calories
8:00pm Scrambled Eggs: 2 eggs, chives, peppers, 1/2 inch of cheese, 1/4 cup of milk, salt, pepper 300 calories?
8:13pmGlass of Milk 120 calories
Glasses of water: 4
Total Calories: 978 calories

Exercise : 50 sit ups
40 minute walk around the neighborhood with my dad
I am not sure how many calories I should be eating but does anyone know of any good sites that can calculate it?

Hi Megan

Most people on here say they eat 1200 to 1600 calories but that depends on age, size and activity level, I am sure there are some threads on here to help you firgur that one out..Also a lot of people use web site to help count and track their calorie intake, one is called calorie king and there is also my plate, I am farely sure they are free, just google it!! I am using the weight watcher point system cause weight watcher worked for me, until I got pregnant and stoped looking at portion size.

One of my fave low fat diner is a 3oz chicken breast cooked with salsa ( I used the hot but that all depends on your taste) I eat it with a salad usually
my salads containe ice berg lettuce, spinach, red and green cabbage, red and green peppers, red (or spanish) oignions, carrotts. I make my own dressing and I will type the recepie in the next few days I have it at home, and I don't know it yiet!

There are lots of very good recepies out there that you could probably make yourself, again google is very useful to find those as well as the nutrition tab in here!

Love you dog!!!! I would have to check if my kids have allergies before I get one..I would hate to get one and then have to give him up that is just plain cruel, dogs in general are big babies they are very needy and can't be left alone too long!!!!

The soup is probably really low calorie.
If you look at roughly how much of each was put in then look at the calorie content and add it all up. The soup my mum used to make was 0 points on weight watchers, but that's because vegetables don't count.
You could always add various beans to it to bulk it up if you find it's not filling you up, and that would also help if you're struggling to make up your calories some days.

Atkins is working really well for me, although I'm not doing it properly. I'm not counting the carbs anymore, it's been more of a lifestyle change than a diet, so I'm just eating less carbs and more veggies than I used to, so it's just a better diet rather than being on a diet at the moment.
I'm still keeping it low though, staying away from peas, sweetcorn, beans, potatoes, bread (except yesterday), pasta etc.
I might start counting them again soon though because I don't want to get too slack with it.

Walking has help me tone my legs but I think running up and the the stairs did most of it....Also lunges, and Walking lunges help too, leg lifts all little things you can do when you do your sit ups, Do you mix your sit ups?? Like the bycicle (sorry I can't spell) and I don't know the names of the others but they work out all different muscle in your abs so they all get tones!

So I woke up at around 12:00pm today. You can't blame me, Schools out and I've only got 4 weeks left to enjoy freedom! But I weighed myself on the scale the other day and it said I went from 196 to 194. Then today it said I lost 194 to 192. Overall I'd say I've only lost 2 pounds, because I know my body weight rising up and down. Also, The previous day me and my family went on a hike the other day around a lake. It was mostly up hill and my legs are still killing me lol. I really think I can loose the weight this time. Good luck to you all!

OHMYGOD. I checked out that calorie king website and it is amazing! It is very accurate and it even gives information about how much time it will take to burn off foods! Mind blowing, I would definitely recommend this site! I will definitely have to try that chicken and salsa idea, It sounds very yummy and filling. And I'll try adding a lot more veggies into my salads. I would also appreciate that salad dressing recipe a lot!

Lol and thank you! Shes a cutie, She was only about 11 months old in that picture, they are huge dogs, But she is one of the middle sized breeds so they do get bigger. I'd recommend this kind of dog if you've got younger children, These dogs are very very gentle and affectionate! And yes, dogs do need lots of attention!

I'm glad the soup is low caloried, Because I love it! especially with added garlic cloves and lentils, I'll try adding more beans next time.
I had a teacher that once tried the Atkins diet and she lost about 50 pounds with it. And congrats, I'm glad it works for you too!

Thanks a bunch

That dressing sounds good, and 1 tbsp is only gunna be around 64 calories.
Your dog is absolutely amazing though! I wanted to get a dog but I move out in September and won't be able to afford one or give it the time and attention it'd need.

With the soup, as long as you didn't add cream to thicken it or anything, it's pretty much vegetable puree so will always be quite low.

It's good to see your scales moving in the right direction too :)

Also- just some friendly advice...you are still growing, so please don't cut down your calories too low. The normal caloric advice we give on this site for adults does not apply to you :) You can likely search for some information on the internet about this :)
