My New Diary

Nice accomplishment! Being able to shop off the rack anywhere and not have to pay the "fat tax" for extended sizes is awesome!

Great weekend! I ran Saturday morning and stayed away from the hills! It felt great and I had no problem completing 25 minutes. We spent the Memorial Day weekend with friends and went on a few hikes for fun. I ended the weekend with my weight down which is really nice for eating out as much as we did! I also bought a Fitbit to go along with MyFitnessPal. I have already seen some discrepancy with it and the Basis Watch. The Fitbit seems to be much more sensitive and counts things that aren't really steps. I generally have 1K to 1.5K more steps with the Fitbit than the Basis.

The biggest thing going on right now for me is still just reducing all sugar I can. I even pull meat from hamburger buns and throw the buns away. The only sugar I am getting is from milk or fruit. I found out the amazing amount of sugar in grapes too, so they are for sure out. Which is a real bummer cause I love grapes. Of course, that is probably why I love them. Up in weight today but really it's down cause I am almost always about 2 pounds down after running. We'll see how it goes tomorrow.

Hey Caddius,
Super congrats on the 10lbs lose and a bigger congrats on the almost 20% body weight loss.
Keep it up dude.
and I hope your 5K went well.

So this has been a crazy weekend. Lets start with Saturday. I did the 5K and it was a monster. Big hills and after 2.5 miles I just couldn't handle another hill. I started walking on the two remaining hills as my BPM was over 170 and I was drenched in sweat cause it was so hot. I felt good about at least making it 2.5 miles but wish I could have held on for the last bit. We then decided to go to the zoo that same day, and I was so tired but went anyways. I ended up burning over 4000 calories that day. Because of this I was worn out on Sunday and Monday. I took the day off work to spend with my wife but I just didn't want to move. Then yesterday a vendor took me out to lunch. This was a bad idea. I ended up eating almost my entire days worth of calories in one sitting. I came out with on 99 calories for dinner and then my wife requested pizza. I was done for. Can't say no to my wife craving pizza. So I ate more calories yesterday than another other single day since I have been keeping track as almost 4000. This morning I am paying the toll. I ended up gaining THREE pounds! I know it is probably some water weight, but wow! That was the biggest single day gain I have had yet. I also measured one inch over on my waist from yesterday and my body fat went up about 1.5%. Hopefully that all will settle down for tomorrow and I can get back on track. I measured that I had about 151 Grams of sugar yesterday where I have been trying to keep it around 25.

Well that sounded painful....
Don't let yourself get down over the past few bad days. Make it a learning experience and get back on the motivation/dedication track. You'll make up for it buddy

Grey - Motivation is certainly not an issue for me.... anymore! Everyday I am on it, but just let that one day get away from me from outside influences. Even that, however, I could have overcome, I just decided to have an off day, when it come down to it. I have never in my life lost 60 pounds at any given time and I haven't weighed where I am today in about 10 years. Every morning I see myself in the mirror I can see the difference and it reminds me how far I have come in a relatively short amount of time. What Tuesday reminded me of the most, is the my real enemy isn't calories, it's sugar. I had an exceptionally large amount of sugar that day compared to what I have been eating. It was 151 Grams where I have been eating 25-50 a day. Add that to the extra calories and the recipe for disaster is there. All that to say, I have it figured out! And thanks for the kind words!

I just have to keep up with the low sugar intake, and once my weight is normal I can partake of sweets moderately. Right now, though, I have to pay the piper. I had been drinking soda all my life, and it certain packed on the pounds.

Today I am certainly taking a different route, up-ing the protein and fat and keeping the carbs very low. Didn't get to run this morning because of the rain but I plan to do so this evening.

Here is one for you if you don't buy that sugar is the cause of weight gain. On Tuesday, like I talked about, I had 151 Grams of sugar and over ate by 1000 calories. I gained 3 pounds. Yesterday I over ate by 200 calories but only had 24 grams of sugar. I ate almost all meat. I lost 1 pound. I am more and more seeing the evidence that calories are worthless to count, it is the amount of sugar we need to be tracking.

Hey you are doing great!!! I think you are right to keep track of sugar, but most of all I think sticking to real foods and not the man made food it the key!!! I swaped the bund of my burger for lettuce leafs extra veggies and no sugar!!! Great job on the 5 K that is amazing.....I should sign up for one too it would be a great motivation!

When it comes to calorie counting I've never been a big fan of it myself.
I base all my intake on portion control and low/no fat foods. I find it is a lot easier to lose weight that having to chain myself to a calculator trying to figure out the calories of what I had ate. Plus personally I feel it takes the motivation out of weight loss that I'm so hard trying to do.

Keep it up.....

Hit some goals this weekend! I love that slow pace of having a number of small goals to work on. First, I measured at 46" around the largest part of my waist on Sunday. That means 10" lost total now! I also hit my new low in weight at 260.8#. This brought my BMI to below 37 thus hitting another goal! My BMI was 44.5 when I started in January. I did go up a measly .1 lbs today but I am less than a pound from my next weight goal of 260#. My Visceral Fat has been back up to an 18 rating, but I contribute this to the fact that I haven't ran or walked consistently in a week. I was down to 16 during the 5K. When I started measuring Visceral Fat I was at 22. Each rating down is a goal however, I really want to get below 13, as 13 and above is considered "Alarming". My overall body fat has been hovering around 35% too, and it was down to 32.3.

Now that my "Vacation" is over, it's time to start my daily walking and running again. It was a nice break to catch up on sleep but I have to get those habits going again to see these numbers get lower.

I am really looking forward to when I hit 255#. This is how much I weighed when I got married in 2001. The only time I weighed this amount or less since then was when I has having back surgery and was down to 244# that same year.

I had a major drop in weight today. I hit my lowest and I don't know what made the difference other than just sticking to my no sugar. I did eat a little less yesterday but now 3 pounds less. So hit a new low and am now well over the 20% mark of weight lost.

I just read your thread. Your issues and weight are pretty similar to mine. Nice job so far. Looks like you have dropped about 15 or so. Congrats on getting into the 250's. I about 11 pounds away from them myself.

Time to get caught up! First off, I am abandoning my listing of the calories in and out daily, as I was doing before. This is because I have come to the conclusion, that it is worthless. From now on I will list the amount of sugar and fiber I am consuming with my weight. That is it. In the end, I am finding this makes the biggest difference and I am not watching it like I should be. So that is what you will see here from now on. I am not even going to worry about the steps I take, as I am finding that even exercise doesn't matter. Doesn't mean it's not good, don't get me wrong, but when it comes to weight loss, it's a wash. So my focus is the sugar intake and the fiber to counter it.

As of today, if I went by the calories in/calories out belief, then I should weigh 26.7 lbs MORE than I do. I have kept track of all the burn and all the intake and this calculates the difference. That number is getting ridiculous. It keeps going up cause I am not "BURNING" as quickly as I am actually losing weight. So it's time to stop focusing on that.

I did hit a new weight low today! I also hit two goals! I am now less than 32% body fat and my visceral fat hit a new low of 15. One of the most important things for me to do is get a visceral fat rating of 12 or less! I'd like to end up under 8. For my health, this is the most important thing. If I was 300 lbs but had a visceral fat of 5, I'd be thrilled! (But I still want to weigh less, lets not get ridiculous.)

Jumped nearly 4 pounds in one day! WOW! I was a little shocked when I stepped on the scale this morning. I didn't have a lot of sugar yesterday, but what I did consume a lot of, was salt! Although I have no aversion to salt, I always forget it caused you to retain water. We bought the LEGO movie yesterday and sat around the TV eating a LOT of popcorn. I noticed I felt a little "Fuller" This morning, and when I stepped on the scales I expected to be a little higher but 3.8 lbs was a lot. It was the most single day gain I have had since I started keeping track. The good news is, of course, as I continue on, I just need to keep the sodium down and drink a lot of water. That should bring it back down. The second factor is that I always weight less AFTER a run, and I always take that weight as it is the lowest. Well I didn't run this morning, and I kinds wish I did just so I could record a little lower weight than this.

I always check my wedding bands before I weight in ...if they feel tight then I push the weight in for the following day! Feels less discouraging!
