Well I have begun
I thought I might start a journal too.
I got my program on Saturday and started today-Monday. It is actually tougher than I imagined. NO MILK in coffee!!I will have to gradually wean myself off that one. I'm down to 2 teaspoons full.
Also I have been using equal powder as a sweet treat eg in baked apple, but apparantly equal is not allowed.
Everyone, me included, thinks this is "the one" (diet)so I hope it is. This Forum is going to be a major part of it though I can tell.
I have basically told everyone that I am hibernating for 3 months, apart from work and the odd party and weekend away. I intend to use all my resources for this. By the time I need to buy winter clothes I hope to be well on my way or at goal.
I am soooo looking forward to it.
Thanks for listening.
Katy

Welcome (again) katydidnext:)
Good Idea starting a diary, wish I had just to track myself, emotion wise etc.
This forum is so great the people are amazing and you know someone out their will come to your aid if you get stuck.
Wishing you lots and lots of goodluck on the Cohen's journey.
Sam:)

Welcome :)
I am approaching the end of my fourth week and Ive gotta say that this is the only diet I have EVER been able to stick to for that long!
You have started strong with a great attitude, keep up the good work!!! All the very best for this journey to your new winter clothes!!!

well kimmy1, I shall look to you for inspiration. 9.4kgs in 4 weeks way to go.Also you must be a pretty similar height and had as much as I did to lose, give or take a kilo or 5.
So if you are 3 and a half weeks ahead of me you will get to goal and refeed 3 and a half weeks before me, Yes. or is that too much pressure.
I hope I lose that much in that amount of time too.
There are so many inspiring stories on here. That is one of the reasons I am so sure this is going to work.
Keep up the good work everyone and thanks for the welcome.

well, 1 day down. Apart from the milk in coffee didn't deviate at all. I might just be getting the hang of this.So tired though. I went to the chiropractor yesterday afternoon as I was getting headaches and backaches. He fixed it but it is still very sore. I don't want to take my usual painkillers as they have codeine in them and I think that will interfere with the weightloss.
Bad girl stood on the scales this morning, lost 0.4 overnight.
I bought a bullet mixer thing yesterday and had my smoothie for brekkie.I'm not sure about that as I think I prefer to eat my brekkie rather than drink it.
I must be really tired though, I crawled into bed last night and woke up 2 hrs later to go to the loo, and couldn't move. I had slept so soundly that my body was frozen.
ah well on with the day

Hi Katydidnext:)

You will have headaches and feel yuck the first week that is your body detoxing so don't stress and make sure you drink all your water (3 liters ) once that is over you will feel good and it is alot smoother sail.

smooth sailing

Hi Katydidnext

What's a bullet mixer?

You know even during the first week for me, even though I had headaches and felt week, I still felt fresh because the feeling of the food I was digesting was was healthy & overall refreshing... then especially after the first week it is smooth sailing.

Keep it up! Keep a journal. I think this forum is the best, I have read it for a while now.. but finally decided to join up and join in with everyone - it is very inspirational....

Well done Katy! We got a bullet for xmas and i love to use it to throw in herbs and garlic from my allowance to make salad dressings and that kind of stuff. Yesterday i threw in some fresh apricot and curry powder and marinated some chicken pieces in it for apricot chicken. Hubby likes to make smoothies in it. Cheers, Penny.

what a great idea Bright yellow!I might do that tomorrow night.
Jbzcurvez- the bullet is like a mixer/smoothie maker etc. The difference to normal is that this is a cup type thing that then goes on upside down and mixes just one serve.(sorry that didn't sound right at all)

Day two is over, I alternate between feeling dizzy and lightheaded and then having enough energy to clean both kids pigsty's(bedrooms) and the kitchen and the lounge etc
I am battling to keep focused at work.I only work until 2.30 and I thought after that would be the difficult part but its the mornings that kill. probably because we are so quiet at the moment at work.
I also still have a sore back from the weekend so I am swallowing nurofen 2x a day.
I am sure it will get better so I will just hang in there.
I totally forgot that I had eaten my 2 pieces of fruit and when I was light headed this afternoon I ate an apple.oops.It worked though I felt much better.
I am still totally focused and I got quite a compliment today after I emailed my consultant. She said that after meeting me she thinks I will definately go the distance. She said some people just seem to have that glint in their eye that means they will succeed and I am one of them. Maybe she says that to everyone but it made me feel good.

Dont fret!

Hi Katydidnext :)

hehe i know what you mean about your consultant. When i spoke to my consultant first time around she was really positive and told me she really believes im going to be one of her succesful 'graduates'.i was like pffft i bet she says this to everyone for the motivation!

now me and my consultant are pretty close and she was telling me the other day of other cohenites who walk in wanting to do the program and she knows theyll be in it for the long haul because they dont seem committed enough even though she gives the same amount of attention to everyone.

WHO KNOWS!
its really up to YOU if you want to be a lard arse for the rest of your (short unhealthy) life or if you want to be a happy healthy slim new you!

Happy losing ! xx

My advice to you would be not to go 'into hibernation', but to try and change your lifestyle, and then the diet and exercise will follow.

The reason diets fail so often is because people try to do things that they're not used to doing, and go to extremes that aren't realistic for real life.

Find what works for you, in a healthy way, and just re-learn how to live. Even if you go into hibernation for a few months and get to the goal weight, what's going to keep you at that weight once the hibernation ends?

Smart choices, new lifestyle. Extremes aren't good for anyone.

Thanks for the advice fourth and 100. Fortunately on Cohens diet (this forum is dedicated to it)things are slightly different. We all have different ways of losing our weight and I must say I think your way is extreme. So lets agree to disagree

I,ve just been to get my photo on my drivers licence and I must admit I asked for a 1 year licence as I thought "I will look totally different next year so why keep my fat photo". Things really are different this time. Hubby says I'll fall off the wagon as soon as I stop losing and hit a plateau, we shall see.
Today was better.Kept busy at work and wasn't quite so hungry after lunch, maybe its all starting to settle down.
Thanks for the constant encouragement guys, much appreciated.

Congratulations on the lost of 6KG another 40KG to go, day after day the results build and compound.

I agree with the lifestyle change. If magic potions could be purchase that overnight turned fatty's into slim folk, in a years time most would be back to be fat again, because if ex-fatty's return to doing what they did, and what if what they did made them fat, they will get fat again. The magic will be reversed by the daily small mistakes that created the problem in the first place.

I agree with what you say "extremes" of one form or another are always cause for concern. I agree that Cohen is a big stick diet, but it is also to fix a big fat problem. However there is nothing about Cohen the means hibernation nor is it extreme, the Cohen program is very strict on portion control ( my lunch today was 135grams of chicken breast, 115grams of vegetables, 160grams of kiwifruit and 2 crackers that weighted exactly 11.8grams) , which makes eating out difficult whilst you are on the main phase of the program.

Sometimes during a group meal others "pushing" even if driven by good intentions mean that eating out in a group can be more frustrating the fun.

The hardest thing for me has always been preparing my meals in advance, requiring planing and more planning, its a real pain to prepare every meal for 5 months. It is well known that I have some doubts upon some aspects of the program and the advice of the program by some consultants, however overall I think it is an excellent program (not perfect, excellent). Cohen is centered around keeping lower the peaks of blood sugars , limiting the effects on insulin resistance on our adipose (fat) tissue and getting our bodies into fat burning mode.

Hi Katydidnext

I am a bit upset with the lack of faith your hubby has. He'll see. You stick to this girl. I have always had a weight problem since I was 12 and have tried all sorts of things. Some work, some don't. This is by far the easiest (very strict) diet I have ever done and the results are fantastic. My hubby (thank goodness) is very encouraging. He travels a lot with work (as do I) and we sometimes don't see each other for up to 10 days. Every time he comes home he comments on how good I am looking and how much I am shrinking. You stick to this and you will shrink like you've never shrunk before and your hubby will only be amazed. Also I haven't found a platuea yet (hopefully this won't happen on this program) although I still have a fair way to go.

You keep thinking thin.

Allana

well ata, I was abit upset too at his lack of faith, but he has seen me do soooo many diets and fall off everyone. when we met 10 years ago I had just lost 15kgs and weighed 70kgs and have yo-yo ed between that and now since then, so he has never even seen me thin.in fact come to think of it I don't even remember seeing me thin.Hee Hee
I realised last night that we overspent at Xmas so I am worrying about money as well as it being the middle of my cycle(ovulation).I know that is probably too much info but it explains why I am feeling so flat and negative.
I think I need to do a meditation in order to clear the decks about my money worries or it will eat me up and I might reach for the lollies. Not good at only 3 days in.
I guess it didn't help that I weighed myself again this morning(Bad girl) and the scales hadn't moved.
Sorry to moan, but we have all been there I'm sure and I just need to vent.
Thanks

i think youll find that during you ' mentrual cycle' you probably wont lose any weight.I personally only weigh myself at the cohens clinic every 4 weeks so i dont know but after reading through months of these posts...i have found that alot of the cohenites on here experienced VERY minimal or NO weightloss during that dreaded week, but were surprised to find a boost of weight loss the week after.

i think you can i know you can YOU CAN DO THIS!! :)

happy losing xx

Fatcat's right hang in there we are all here for support.
I've got my unmentionable's at the moment and it really does affect everything I'm bloated and edgy not a good space.

My husband know's to stay clear of me at these times. It's ashame my kid's don't though alot of yelling goes on in my house at these times.

Be strong this is for you remember make up a mantra while you meditate and visualise yourself slim wearing something fabulous.

Thinking of you Katydidnext

Sam:)

I wouldnt stress about the milk in the coffee, milk is high in protien and low in fat. Just go for the 99% fat free milk (not the ultra light one that looks and tastes like water lol)

Its only 100 calories for a cup of that milk, which is pretty good :)
Besides, you do want to keep your calcium up.

Wishes

I hate to harp on this but on this program (Cohen's which is what this forum is all about) we are NOT allowed any sort of milk while on the program. Milk can only be re-introduced on the re-feed program so PLEASE DON'T encourage the use of non permitted products.

I'm with you Allana, there are a couple of messages on this thread that contradict Cohens. It is hard being a newbie and getting advice from people then realising that its not Cohens guidance.
Well as I put in the other post I am now drinking black coffee and all is good. Its my first weekly weigh in tomorrow,I know I'm not supposed to weigh until 4 weeks but I can't help myself.
My pj's are starting to get slippy round my waist already woohoo.
