My journey to good health

So I know i didn't post my food here last night...i'm wondering if i should continue doing that or not? I track it on the myfitnesspal website daily and have been copying it to paste it here.

Meh, I never post my food info. I figure if people want to see what I'm eating they'll click on the little Food Diary link in my signature. lol :)

Also yesterday i forgot to include the 1 beer i had :0 That was my reward for getting through the past few days lol. It is funny, i have one beer now and feel intoxicated...it used to take 7 or so. In any case i thought it was a good choice at 140 calories compared to what i wanted to get: A Caramilk Cream Cooler (vodka drink) which i can't even find the calories for, but i would guess around 500 calories and tons of fat.

Good for you for not succumbing to the temptation! 140 calories is great! And I bet you're right, that Caramilk Cream Cooler probably had about as much calories as an entire meal! Ugh! They REALLY should be required to post the nutritional information on everything that is sold to be ingested. It makes me mad that the government doesn't regulate that better.

Right now I am super impressed because i went to go buy a lunch at starbucks at the hospital here and bought a sandiwch which had detailed nutrition info on it, and it was actually healthy. I get excited about things like that, lol. It tasted good too :)

LOL! I'm totally the same way! It's like finding and unexpected treasure! :D

You continue to impress me, sweetie! Rock on! :D

thanks stacy :)

I hope the labelling regulations get changed soon. It also bugs me that they had nutrition information on labels which is misleading i.e. for 1/2 bagel, or 250 mL of a 450 mL juice.

I am soooooo stuffed right now. I ate like 2600 calories today. However, I walked for 40 minutes, and did a 40 minute zumba class, burning about 700 calories. So I think I ended up about even for the day, which is ok. It was a family member's birthday so i had a very small piece of cake, which I am counting at about 400 calories. I didn't eat the whole piece, and actually didn't eat very much of the icing either. It was a planned indulgence, so to speak :)

The funny thing was, I really didn't enjoy eating it as much as I thought I might. It tasted fairly good, but I would have been just as happy eating an orange instead after taking 1 bite of the cake.

I used to have a bit of a problem with always wanting desserts after meals, and often would buy cake slices to eat after supper. I can't see myself doing that now, I just have no desire to do so. Alot of it is thinking of the aftermath...even now I'm thinking that I 'll have to exercise tomorrow to make up for tonight.

Something else interesting from today: there was a girl in my zumba class who had a physical disability and limited mobility and I thought it was awesome that she came. She had to take lots of breaks but did her best to participate in as much of the class as possible. I found that really inspiring :)

I totally agree! Who eats half a bagel? lol Oh and I love the one on my pickle jar that has whole pickles in it and then says the serving size is 1/4 a pickle. Yeah, cause really I'm going to fish a pickle out of there, measure out a fourth of it, cut off the fourth, then put the rest of the pickle back in the jar. Riiiiight. :banghead:

That is AWESOME - what a major step forward! Chalk one up for Team Healthy! Yay! :D

LOL...exactly.

I had a horrible sleep last night. I slept from around 12-9, and didn't wake up, but i feel completely unrested. In fact, I remember I used to feel like this all the time, and I used to sleep more than I do now normally. My conclusion is that it was because of the cake I ate last night. It is extremely odd to sleep 9 hours and not feel rested. Huge headache right now too. I can't wait to eat well today and get the body back to normal :D

I totally bet you're right! It always amazes me how different foods effect me. If I didn't eat so healthy the day before I always feel icky the next day, not just emotionally because I know I didn't eat healthy, but on a physical level. There are even days I'll wake up feeling stiff and achy and totally not know why, then I'll look back on my food diary and find out that a pattern emerges and find that it's actually certain foods that make me feel that way. It's incredible how the food we eat can effect us. Before I kept a food journal I never would have put two and two together to realize that most of my sick days are 98% of the time caused simply by what I ate the day before.

I feel your pain. Last night was a bad night for sleep. :( Yes, certain food just throws the body completely out of whack now, doesn't it? I hope you get much better sleep tonight and wake up feeling amazing tomorrow. :)

I know exactly what this is like. Even when you decide to have those types of deserts for a special occasion, it's kind of a let down! You remember it being so, so, SO good and it doesn't live up to the memory.

Thanks for sharing the story about the girl in your zumba class. You're right. That is inspiring to me and I didn't even witness it. :)

You are totally right...it is times like this I am glad I am keeping a food diary! I think it is one of the ways our body tells us that we are not eating well that we feel generally off after a not so great day eating wise.

Thanks :) I am planning on doing my best to sleep well tonight, that is for sure!

You are so right about remembering foods tasting better than they are. I find ever since I am eating healthier I don't like chocolate *as* much. NOt that I have eaten alot of it, mind you.

You couldn't be more right! And you know, the healthier we eat the more our taste buds will change. Sugary food will be less appealing and fatty and salty foods will be less appealing too. At least that's how it's been for me.

The day that really blew me away was when my boyfriend and I went to get a couple red velvet cup cakes from a gourmet cupcake bakery. We rarely ate them, but they where my favorite and my boyfriend loved them too. But after eating healthy for months they just didn't taste good to us and neither of us could even finish it and we threw a lot of it away. I actually hated it! It felt like someone was hitting me in the face with a sack of sugar. It was sooo sickeningly sweet and it burned the back of my throat. There was nothing different about the cup cakes, the change was in us.

The day I realized that I hate cupcakes made me sad and happy all at the same time, sad because I could no longer enjoy my favorite "food", but happy because I over came something that used to have such a strong pull over me. And I began to realize that the memory of cupcakes (when I liked them) was 10 times better than eating them. Who needs all that sugar, fat (36% Saturated Fat), and calories? Ick! Add that to the fact that they are just not that enjoyable and you get a big NO THANKS! lol

I couldn't be more happy that my taste buds are changing! Now veggies are more flavorful and ripe fruit is as sweet to me as candy used to be! AwesomeSauce!

So yesterday I made a conscious effort to drink more water. I drank water at lunch, at supper, and after supper. It went ok, since I had my true lime packet to add to the water. I love true lime :) It actually was much easier than I thought it would be...maybe I was just really dehydrated or something. I am going to try to continue on with that :)

Also bought some healthy stuff at the store...makes this all much easier. Yesterday I had trouble making meals when I really didn't have much food around to make what I wanted to. I made a nice bean and pasta salad for supper though which was good.

I lost alot of weight quickly last week, so I am not upset that I am essentially maintaining at the moment. I haven't exercised yet this week and that is likely part of it. I suspect i'll start losing again in the next couple days.

I'm so glad to hear you've been trying to add more water to your daily intake! That's great! I know it's made a big difference for me. :)

Congrats on the weight loss last week, I know I said it on MFP but it deserves repeating - you're really doing awesome!

Thanks Stacy :) I am trying with the water...i didn't do as good today but baby steps, right? :) I will try to do better tomorrow.

And ty for the congrats on the weight loss :) The strange thing is that I believe I was at the most 5 lbs lighter this time last year, but clothes that fit then don't fit now. It makes me wonder if i am carrying weight differently, or what. I know that on Sept 11 last year i weighed 265 lbs, just as i do now. Or, it could be that even though it is only 5 lbs, it makes a difference in the way the clothes fit me. School is starting soon again and I feel like i need to buy clothes but really i have tons of clothes in the closet that i should be able to wear, and hope to be able to wear for sure by christmas :)

If i keep losing 2 lbs/week, by the end of 2010 i should weigh 40 lbs less, or 225 lbs (!!!!!!). Even if I lose 1 lb/week, I will be 20 lbs less, so 245lbs. Either would be amazing.

I am starting to worry again (not sure if i posted about it already) about what will happen when i start school again. I am worried about keeping on track, about taking short cuts with food, about losing motivation and getting buried in my books. I can only hope that won't happen. Getting a strong start this summer should help. :hurray:

You're right, even if you're the same weight as you where your clothes might very well be fitting differently if your muscle mass is different than it was. If you're gaining or losing muscle it can most definitely effect the way your old clothes fit.

As for keeping on track during school, I have total faith in you! I have no doubt that you'll be able to keep up the healthier lifestyle while at school.

And hey, you could always start studying with your school books while on the treadmill. lol I read or watch tv or movies while on a treadmill, I'm sure you could study as long as you weren't going to fast. :D

Thanks Stacy :) lol....one thing i can't do is multitask when exercising...if i start reading stuff on fitness machines i get distracted and end up going super slowly. I am always impressed when people can do both :)

I think school will go well too. I am pretty used to packing my lunch now this summer, so i think it will continue onwards into school days. I"ll end up saving tons of money too!

I don't feel well right now. I walked to the gym (25 minutes) in a rainstorm, did a 45 minute zumba class, and walked back home (another 25 minutes) in what turned into very hot weather. I am thinking i overdid it slightly with the exercise, but i'm hoping it is either 1. TOM coming or 2. That i just need to eat something.

EDIT: Feeling much better now. I think i did just need to rest and eat.
