My Journey to a Leaner Me!

Hi everyone, I’m new to this forum and haven’t posted anywhere yet so I have no friends here yet, but here goes....My name is Clarivel and I just turned the big 4-0 in October. I’m married 21 years and have 3 great kids ages 19, 16 & 13. Weight was never a major issue for me and I always bounced back after my pregnancies. I’m Latina and have always been curvy and that’s fine....but about 5 years ago I went thru some major personal drama and cupcakes and Coke became my best friends! You know how they say that when it rains it pours? Well....a metaphorical Katrina hit my world and food was the only thing that would calm and soothe me! I became really depressed and wasn’t sleeping so, of course, I was eating! Needless to say, my a$$ got bigger and bigger except I didn’t realize how big! In 4 years I had put on about 45 pounds!

I have made half-assed attempts at losing weight and I own just about every fitness video and gadget ever made. I even have 2 gym memberships that I don’t use! My heart’s in the right place but I have zero motivation....sometimes I look at all this and say “f- -k it! I’m not gonna get any smaller” but then I see and read amazing weight loss success stories and get a glimmer of hope.

I am my worst enemy because I don’t ever finish what I start! If I were consistent, I would get results...my hope is that by keeping a journal you guys can hold me accountable! These are my answers to the “starting a diary” sticky above:

- I would like to lose 45-50 pounds. My current weight is 187lbs!!
- I would like to see some significant progress (if not goal) by summer.
- I’m not sure which plan/method I want to implement to reach my goal.
- I have lots of support at home and hopefully will get some here to help me reach my goal.
- I don't think it's impossible for me to lose that much weight, but I know it will be hard!
- I've sort of started because I've been doing 30-45 min on the treadmill but I have to work on
nutrition and a better exercise plan.

Well that's me in a nutshell. Hopefully, I can meet my goals and make some new friends in the process. I welcome any thoughts, comments, rants, opinions and/or constructive criticism!

Clarivel :)

Thanks Linzee! I definitely feel more accountable now that I've put it out there to a cyber-world of strangers! lol...

hey Mami... yo soy dominicana...y tu? well good to here that you are starting a diary, it will help a lot!! i wish you nothing but the best for you and your weight loss!!

Hi Clarivel,

Just dropping in to say hi and welcome.

If you find you don't stick to things for very long maybe try setting mini goals. Give yourself a goal for the day or for the week. When you see yourself able to meet that small goal it'll motivate you to keep going and reach another mini goal. And before you know it you'll be well on your way.

I follow the Weight Watcher's point's system and absolutely love it. Everyone has their favorite. You just have to find what works best for you.

Keeping a diary is great to help you along the way too. This fourm is full of wonderful people who are very motivating and inspiring. I think you'll like it here.

Good luck on your journey.

V.

Welcome to the forum mi amour. I also live in the city, whereabouts are you? You have the same problem as me, the damn consistency. Wish I had some! Do you have some nice salsa on your ipod or what do you listen to? TTYL

good morning ladies...

angel...I'm doing good. thanks for checking on me

krinse...so true about goals...my goal for the week is to eat as clean as possible...I've been to a couple of WW meetings and really like that you feel that you're not alone...but I don't have a handle on the points so I dont really follow it.

blancita...hi! I live in Queens...salsa? r u kidding??? my ipod has over 3000 songs full of classic salsa (think Fania) new salsa, merengue, bachata, reggaeton, hip hop, samba, punta, r&b, 80's music...did I leave anything out? lol....unless I'm using a video, I cant work out w/o my Ipod!

Today I'm gonna do some food shopping to get ready for the week. I'm going to attempt to cook some clean meals in advance so I can take to work and have for dinner when I get home. meal planning is the worse for me! and if I don't do it, I end up eating crap for lunch and spending way too much money or I starve all day and then eat everything in sight when I get home!

Have a great Sunday all!

salsa, merengue, bachata, reggaeton, hip hop, samba, punta, r&b

Now thats my kind of music!!! Thanks for stoppin by I hope you have a great day & week!! :waving:

Love your name clarivel!!

And welcome to the forum....you'll find tons of great support/motivation here! If you stick to it and keep writing in your diary and holding yourself accountable for everything you do/everything that goes in your mouth (even on those bad days, we ALL have those, as long as you don't continue on a downward trend!) you WILL see a difference by this summer :).

i do the whole preparing things for the week. i hardly ever stick to it but thats seperate lol! it does help though knowing the kinds of foods you can have everyday.

have a good week

x

Hey mami, I like your musical tastes. We love us some Fania Allstars! Do you ever go to Orchard Beach in the summer? The free salsa concerts every Sunday (starting after July 4) are OFF THE CHAIN!

Do you work in the city or out in Queens? I work by Grand Central. Do you belong to a gym? I go to NYSC, in case you happen to go there I would love a gym buddy.

I hear you on the meal planning. I have the same problem. I get home, and I've got an H that doesn't know how to boil an egg (spoiled all his life by Abuelita) so I have to get dinner going while I'm watching the baby. I'm always near starving by that time so I may have a snack (or several snacks actually) before dinner can get cooked. So then I end up eating more than planned. So lately I've been trying to make some larger portions, and do a little cooking on Sunday, and then freeze the leftovers so I have a few meals for the week. This is the first week I'm trying this. Tonight we're having fresh Sherpherd's pie out of the freezer. Tomorrow we'll have chulettas already cooked and in the freezer, I'll just throw some rice on and we'll be able to eat 20 minutes later with no hassle. On Thursday I'll be home early so I'll make a large pan of meatloaf and freeze half, along with a bunch of mashed potatoes that I'll freeze, for yet another easy meal. I hope this ends up working out..

thanks for the welcome...you're so right...writing it all down makes you feel guilty when you cheat and have to explain it! hope you're right about results by summer!

I highly recommend joining a challenge on here. Bikinibound sets up GREAT challenges (I've only done one but heard she always does) that motivate you to exercise tons! Also she sets up weekly "bonuses" where you focus on some aspect of nutrition/fitness. It really got me to think about not only how many calories I'm eating, but also what those calories consist of :). I think she will be posting info soon!

I haven't been to Orchard Beach in years! (don't wanna scare anyone in my bikini! lol.) I live and work in Queens but my sis works in the Graybar Bldg on Grand Central! I belong to a gym here in Queens but I haven't gone in months! maybe we can meet in the City one day for a guest workout.

your meals sound great! I love to cook and am very creative in the kitchen (a little too much as can be seen by the size of my butt!) I make and freeze alot of stuff too...makes life easier when I get home...I have a slow cooker and that's pretty good too...carne guisada, pollo guisado:drool5:delish! just takes a little planning.

HOLA... how are u doing? I hope that your having a great week so far! when is your weigh-in date?

I have to buy a scale! my old one was digital and got wet (don't ask!) and I threw it out! I wanna try to avoid scale weight and focus on measurements.
