My good days, my bad days, my random thoughts

I didn't get around to putting up yesterday's business. Pretty straightforward...

6:00am - 4:30pm - pretty much the same as every day
8:30pm - chili & potato w/ skin, caesar salad, 300 g Yoplait 0% strawberry yogurt

Approx. values:
Cal: 2348
Fat: 50g (20%)
Carbs: 352 (54%)
Protein: 141 (26%)

As I mentioned above, I kinda buggered myself by forgetting to stretch. So that sucks. But I got home at 6:10pm. My brother is going to Portugal this weekend and he was dropping off a new laptop he bought for me to set up. He was arriving in my lobby as I was pulling into our buildings. He dropped that off and I fed the pets and played with the dog back for about 10 mins or so before I had to put him back in his crate to go pick up my wife from work at 7:00pm.

Arrive back home around 7:20pm. I have about 2:00ish hours to get my run in, shower, have supper and prepare the next days lunch before I'm ready to hit the sack.

So it was a busy day and I wasn't in the best of moods so it was a bit of a struggle... then the lack of stretching/ruining of the day's exercise routine pissed me off even more. If we didn't have days that sucked I guess we wouldn't be able to appreciate our good days. :D Sorry for the rant!

Today's a walk day so there shouldn't be any problems. (I might regret saying that)

I've turned your diary into a TinyURL for you so just go to your User CP, edit your signature and paste the following:

[ url=http://tinyurl.com/6cogcq ]My weight loss diary[ /url ]

I had to put spaces there so the code would show up properly, remove them when you paste it into your signature. And that's it. If you have any problems with it, PM me and we'll figure it out.

I don't know how you did that but it worked! :D Can you do it with my Progress Pics? Here's the address: http://weight-loss.fitness.com/before-after-between/20970-paulab_5-s-progress-pics.html

Ha ha okay! You freakin' ROCK!
Thanks so much! Now I will quit hoggin' your diary with my stuff! LOL

I'll check back later to see how your day went. Thanks again!

Hog away. We're all here to help each other, right?

Today was alright. Not the best diet day... within limits but fat % was a bit high and protein % was a bit down. Here's the breakdown:

6:30am
2 cups Kellogg's All-Bran Flakes, 1 cup milk, 1.5 oz blueberries
1 cup Arthur's Goji Plus juice

9:00am
3 almonds
1 banana

10:00am
3 almonds
1 banana

11:00am
3 almonds
1 tangelo
1 oz blackberries

12:00pm
3 almonds
1 sandwich (12g cheese, 1oz ham, 1oz roast beef, 1oz turkey breast)
1 yogurt cup (100g)

1:00pm
3 almonds
1 tangelo

2:00pm
3 almonds
1 apple

3:00pm
3 almonds
8.7 oz strawberries
2.3 oz blackberries
1 oz blueberries

4:00pm
3 almonds
1 sandwich (same as above)
2 yogurt cups (200g)

6:30pm
30 min walk

7:30pm
2 tortilla pizzas (where the fat came in)

Approx. values:
Cal: 2482
Fat: 62g (24%)
Carbs: 367 (54%)
Protein: 131 (22%)

As you can see my fat% was higher than protein%. OOPS. Next time I'm going to improve the toppings on the tortilla pizza and make it much better. Oh well. We'll chalk it up to a cheat meal. :D

I really liked eating every hour during my work day. All of last week and up until today I had always been starving by the time I was able to eat again. I had much fewer stomach rumblings going on today doing it this way. I'll see how that works out again tomorrow.

All in all, not a bad day. Could've been better, could've been worse.

Keep up the good work. Stay positive. Have a little faith. That commute you have isn't ideal, but you know you can push past that and use the time you do have to make a positive change. I quit smoking too about 2 months ago so congratulations on that...that is one hell of an accomplishment even though it put some lbs on you. I'll keep an eye on ya...good luck!

Thanks! Good to hear it. I was rushed last night and forgot to properly stretch before going out for a run day and that ended up being a really bad move. Aggravated an old injury. But I think I'll be okay. I'll know when I do my next run day (Thursday) if any damage was done or not. I sucked it up for about half the duration but I was pretty sure what I was doing was detrimental so I just fast-pace walked the last 12 minutes. Better than a stick in the eye.
I hate when that happens !!! Hope that it's nothing serious... I'm keeping my fingers crossed :)

I was starting to feel some discomfort in the last 5 minutes of yesterday's walk and I've had a nagging discomfort since so we'll see. I'm a bit worried, to be honest. Tonight's the night to find out.

The thing that sucks is that I hate running to begin with. If I wasn't training to run this 8-miler in September I wouldn't have even dreamt of running to lose weight. I'd be walking and hitting weights/elliptical machines.

I'm pretty sure that is what I will be doing come October. :D

I'll report back in tonight with a thumbs up or down. I don't know what I'll do if it's a thumbs down.

Thumbs up!! (I'm pretty sure) I'm pretty sore, but this is a different sore than the other day. This is muscle-sore from being a lazy ass sloth for the past 15 years. I actually, for the most part, felt relatively good during tonight's go.

As for diet... average day. Did pretty much the same thing as yesterday except today for dinner I had a different pizza. It's a frozen pizza but it's surprisingly reasonable. It's President's Choice Chicken & Red Pepper Thin Crust. A whole pizza is 500 calories, 14g fat (5g sat - not great, I know), 62g carb (4g fiber) and 30g protein. So not perfect, but something I won't feel too guilty about including from time to time.

Approx. values:
Cal: 2468
Fat: 54g (21%)
Carbs: 373 (54%)
Protein: 147 (25%)

I'm thinking about starting to weigh myself daily just to dump the numbers into a spreadsheet and have it dynamically adjust the graph as you enter each new day. My scale measures body fat as well so I'll probably include that. I think it'd be neat to see the graph take shape over time.

If anyone is interested in that let me know and when I complete it I will post it up here. I could also do one without the body fat portion of it for those without the means to track it.

Thumbs up!!
Hurray !!!! :hurray:

Ha ha ha You're just like my jogging partner, we run for 45 minuts and every two steps she bitches about how she hates running, or how stupid it is to get up so early etc etc But the funniest part is when at the end she asks 'tomorrow? same time, same place?'

Ended up taking today off of work because I had a bunch of errands that needed to be done that I can't get done during the regular work day/week because of my schedule. Fortunately, my boss is pretty understanding about my situation and if I ask for a day off, I usually get it.

I started working on that spreadsheet last night. And so this morning I weighed myself to start putting the numbers in. I'm not updating my ticker, but I did want to elate a little bit that the scale was showing 206.8. About 2.5 lbs less than my current ticker with two more days until Ticker Update Day. :D BUT, it's impossible to say what I was yesterday to tell if that's semi-accurate or not. I'll assume it is. I'm an optimist at heart.

I'll be going for a walk this evening with my wife and the dog. I was going to run this afternoon, but it's hot as balls out and our condo's water has been shut off for the day for maintenance. No good comes from me going for a run in the middle of a day like today and not showering after so I'll do it tomorrow and it gives me an extra day to rest my leg.

Yipee on the thumbs up AND the 2.5 pounds! MY scale was UP 2 pounds today so umm... next time can ya throw your extra weight somewhere other than my lap? ;) j/k

We'll see if I can keep that until Monday. Got in a good amount of exercise yesterday and the only not-so-great thing I ate was a 6" club at Subway. Not the worst thing I could've eaten, but not the greatest either. We're out of food.

Today's going to be a busy day and I'm going to be on the road and out of the house more than usual so I'm hoping that doesn't F up today's diet.

Yesterday's totals:
Cal: 2381
Fat: 56g (22%)
Carbs: 355 (54%)
Protein: 142 (24%)

Busy weekend! Holy hell. But I survived.

I was a little worried as Saturday evening I attended a 50th wedding anniversary party for an uncle of mine. I don't like eating outside of my regular food yet because I'm horrible at guaging portions and whatnot.

So for that dinner I had a full plate of ham, corn, roasted potatoes and some swedish meatballs. I guessed at some values and inputed what I could into FitDay and I ended up doing fairly well as far as calories go, but my macros were F'd.

Sunday I don't think I ate enough, but it was a busy day and I ate what I could when I could. It was much better than Saturday, though as far as my macros.

Today's weigh-in brought a smile to my face.

205.7 lbs! A loss of 3.7 lbs from last Monday and crushing the previous week's 0.6 lb loss.

In light of my progress thus far, I've decided to set a very short term goal for myself. A bit of a birthday present to myself. My birthday is 3 weeks from tomorrow and I'm now shooting for <200 lbs by my birthday. That's 2 lbs per week and if I can keep up what I'm doing I see no reason for not being able to achieve it.

Today's diet is going to be difficult as I've got a lot of off-site work and driving to do today so I'll have to figure out how to fit all my food in. And tonight is run night! Starting week 2 of my program.

Last run had some discomfort, but not from my aforementioned injury. This is something new and I can't tell if it's my achilles tendon or muscle. It's the area between my calf and my heel. Sunday was a rest day and it feels alright now so we'll see what it does tonight.

Congrats on the weight loss for the week! That's great! :hurray:
I don't see why you can't reach your birthday goal either so go for it!

Thanks Paula and WW!

Things have been going very well. My diet is working great. Aside from a couple days where I was forced to eat outside of what I can plan, it's been steady and I've been feeling really good about it. Since I've started tracking my weight daily (using a 7-day running average) I've been consistently losing both pounds and body fat %.

I created a spreadsheet for me to input each day's weight and body fat readings. It calculates the lean mass and tracks the running averages. Not knowing what sort of fat loss percentages to expect I decided to calculate the lean mass for me to track to make sure I was losing the right weight -- the fat.

That's been a success. I'm pretty sure my scale is wrong, because it's actually showing an increas of a couple pounds of lean mass despite my weight loss thus far. That's unlikely given the timespan, my protein intake and scale variance. However, I feel it's a pretty good indicator that I am burning mainly fat.

As for yesterday:
Cal: 2190
Fat: 49g (21%)
Carbs: 306 (51%)
Protein: 147 (28%)

Got yesterday's walk in just fine but I noticed even walking, later in the walk the discomfort returning in my tendon/calf area. Again, I'm going to run on it tonight and see what happens and maybe ice it if it's problematic. I'm not entirely sure what to do with it, but things are going so very well that I would hate to have to change it up already.

So I'm hoping that whatever it is is easily managed.
