My First Journal Thing <3

So some background info is in order I suppose. My name is Ryan and I am 17 years old. I live in sunny California, but I will never go to the beach (Im too insecure about my weight). I'm a junior in High School, and play professional video games on my free time (such a workout I know :p). I love to wear jackets, because I feel more secure in them. I think that the jacket obsession is because I think it hides my weight, but in reality it doesn't :S . I decided to lose weight because I'm physically tired of being 270 pounds and only 6ft. On top of that Im friends with a girl (and like) who is way out of my league because of my size, and maybe if I loss weight I could ask her out (I make her seem shallow, but shes not.) I just would feel better if I actually looked the part to be in a relationship with her.

So from here on out I am going to note everything I eat down :3 (hopefully not too much.)

Day 1: March 18
Breakfast:4 Strawberrys and Apple Juice
Lunch:Half a sandwich and water
Snack:Carrots
Dinner:Rice and Grilled fish

Exercise: Played some baseball, and jogg/power-walked 1 mile.

On each of my posts I will try to give some decent insight on my day and what I ate, I guess that's how it works?

Thanks,
Zin

Hey Zin,

Thanks for taking the chance and writing here. This is a nice group of people that really want to help.

The most important thing about an eating plan is to make sure that you eat less calories every day than you use. This may sound extremely simple-minded, but it is not.

I used the information that you provided and calculated your basal metabolic rate (BMR). This is the number of calories your body uses if you were to stay in bed all day. You have a BMR of 2546.9 calories per day. You need to eat calories way below this to lose fat every day.

Just do it. It works, believe me. Also weigh yourself everyday so that you can track progress. It will happen.

By the way, what it the hottest video game happening right now?

Check back

Hello Ryan,

You started well if you will do a little more exercises and eat that amounth of calories each day you will make her say you to go out.

The most important thing is to believe in yourself

Well today went well. I got 110% on my philosophy final, and In a hour going to a party with some friends :]. Today the calorie counting was easy. My friends and I went to burgerking to get lunch, and I ordered a salad. And to my surprise it left me really full and was only 250 calories! After that a firend and I jogg/ walked mile. We did that for about a hour then she went home to change for the party. And before I leave tonight I'm going to eat another one of those salads, and a apple (So I don't have to eat while partying) .

Day 2: March 19th

Breakfast: 4 Strawberry's and 2 glasses of apple juice
Lunch:BK Salad 250 Calories
Dinner:BK salad + Apple 290 Calories

Exercise:
1 Mile Jogged half of the time walked the rest.

@ dobner
I would have to say Call Of Duty:Modern Warfare2
But I play more strategy games namely Starcraft 2.

Thanks for the encouragement Jasmine01 and Dobner
:]

You need to be eating more, hun. I know it seems like eating WAY less will make you lose weight quicker but it's very unhealthy to be having less than 1000 calories. For a guy your height you should be eating at LEAST 1500. Especially when you seem to be so active! Be safe about it!

Anyway, welcome! Hope you enjoy yourself here :D

Yea, I noticed that today. I guess I should eat more. (For some reason those are words I have never said lol)
I will update this at the end of the day.

I know how you feel about the jacket thing. I always wear something with long sleeves, jackets or hoodies.

Good luck, I know how hard it is being young and overweight and feeling that someone is out of your league which I am sure she is not :)

So I haven't posted in awhile since school has been crazy. So much stress and essays due its insane. My diet changes have been doing well so far. I got my calorie intake up to a little over 1000, and thats been easy for me. I also run daily now, and work out. I think this has been a easy change because I live at home and have nothing else to do other than school and workout(and be with friends). SO far good ( I lost 5 pounds already)

Till next time,

Zin

Sweetheart, I really hate to sound like a broken record but just over 1000 calories a day is not enough for a 17 year old male who is 6ft and probably still growing! I know I sound patronising and annoying but although the weight will come off quickly at the beginning, eating that little is not healthy and isn't sustainable. Please have a re-think! Do some research online and read other journels and get an idea of what you should be eating for your height and age :)

Other than that, congrats at still keeping up with the exercise despite being busy and stressed. Congrats on the weight-loss as well :)

I have been reading a lot of calorie intake guides, and I calculated that I need about 2245 calories a day for my body to safely burn weight. So Today I decided to get up to the 2000 mark, and today I ate 2150~ calories. I also ran a mile, and played some rounds of DDR.

Thanks a lot to you all informing me to research more. Today went great, and i'm one step closer to a healthy life style :]

Edit:
I plan to hit a bit over 2240 calories tomorrow, we'll see.

Alright, so some good news! I went to the doctors today to get a check up. I told him that I started my diet and my plans. He said it was good that I joined a community, and I think so to. Well the good part is when I weighed in I weighed 260 pounds not 270. My scale seemed to be broken this whole time. I went to target and got a new digital scale ( I went high-end and spent some money) to re-evaluate my weight. I just weighed in about 5 minutes ago after I'm kind of happy :biggrinjester:

I'm not sure how much I lost though, so I guess this a fresh start! (with a few bonus pounds loss)

hey zin, sounds like you're doing great! If you ever feel like you're losing your motivation just come to this forum, it really helps! I'm glad you are eating more calories now. I am having the same problem (eating enough) so I decided adding in a protein shake in the morning would be good for me on the days I cant quite get over 1000 calories. Plus protein is suppose to be really helpful when losing weight, it helps you keep/build muscle while losing the fat, or something like that XD

Today I messed up, and I feel horrible! I feel like I let myself down big time. Today was going great until dinner, up until dinner time I only ate aprox 570~ calories. Then my mom got everyone fast food without telling me. She doesn't know I am on a diet, and I don't want to tell her because I don't want her to think this is another fad of mine...so I ate the cheeseburger. Right after I felt sick, and very sad. So after dinner I went and ran 1 mile and did 36 sit ups. (Doubt that got rid of the burger fat)

,but yea I guess it happens.

It's okay. We are taught that eating tasty food is so bad for us, and that we can only eat leafy greens. That's not true! It's just about moderation. If you completely deprive yourself of tasty stuff, you will break down and binge. Having a burger once a week will not completely kill your diet. It's just the choice to only have one, not three.
This should be a great time for you. You are so young, and you are starting weight loss at the perfect time. Just breathe and smile. Don't beat yourself up!

:hurray:

Great post imaninjadangit. I agree completely. Your habits will change to match your intention and attention to live healthy, energetically and attractively. An incredibly tasty burger, fries and shake once in a while is good for you to enjoy life. When I have this type of meal I look forward to the next day of getting back to the meals that I know are going to make me look great.

I think we need bad meals. They are rest areas on the road to where we are going.

Hey, good luck with your weight loss plan.
If a girl is worth being with, she'll like you whatever your size.

As others have said, you're doing great so far but you must start eating more because you're still growing and you're not even eating 800 calories a day. For a growing boy, that's just not enough.

Do you ever have protein shakes? They usually have about 100 calories per 2 scoops mixed with water. Protein helps to keep you full between meals and helps you build lean muscle.

Keep up the good work and don't hide away inside.
Get out in the California sunshine :)

Girls don't care about how much a guy weighs as much as you think. Hygiene is VERY important, though. As long as you are clean, well groomed, and smell good, that's a great start! Just be yourself! I know it sounds corny, but it works.
I had never dated a big guy until my current boyfriend. I never ruled them out, but I just had never done it. My boyfriend is sweet, funny, and super smart...and I think he's adorable. He was right around your weight when we first started dating, and he's only 5'8" on a good day! :sifone: His personality made him completely gorgeous to me, not his body...but I happen to think he's handsome, anyway. :coolgleamA:
