My diary...

I usually have my measurements done every 8 weeks or so but around every 4 weeks when Im preparing for a competition.

Hip and waist are good choices so your hip to waist ratio can be worked out, a ratio over .8 for woman is bad.

The measurements I have tracked are

Hip, Waist, bust, upper arm (Both Sides), thigh, calf (both sides), Bodyfat % (Calipers, Durnin/Womersley)

Oh geez, I was thinking of measuring in way too early increments! :smilielol5:

I'm off to the gym for cardio and then home for supper!

I was doing a lot of reading last night and parts of today, and ran across some calculations and here they are:

BMR = 1719
Maintenance to maintain current weight = 2664

I also registered with FitDay and WOW, there is a lot of information you can track in there. I'll be using that a lot it looks like.

203 today, wee :hurray: I'm thinking its all about the minor victories, lol

No gym trip today so I'll be back there tomorrow and Monday. Did a lot of walking around shopping malls today as some compensation.

only a so-so day for me.. I've been feeling a little detached from everything, not sure why but thats just how it is today.

So my first couple sessions with the trainer have been okay. I don't know what to think of the sessions themselves, however. They're short, a half hour in length and we only use the weight machines - no free weights!

What is up with that? I could track my own progress on the weight machines just as easily and cheaper, I did the math and the training works out to 62.50 per hour :O

I'll see how this week goes (we meet Mondays and Thursdays) and make a decision after Thursday.

It's my boyfriend's birthday today, so I am off to get my protein on in the form of a steak!

Tell your trainer you are more interested in working with free weights. If you are met with resistance, maybe you would be better off without paying for one?

I actually did mention it to her a couple times in the first two sessions, I guess I'll bring it up again. I don't know if she's uncomfortable with doing free weights or what, because once she just sorta blew it off and said we'll start with weight machines first. Then the second session we did a full body workout on the machines, then we did abs.

I meet her again tomorrow, so we'll see. Am I trying to rush too early into free weights, maybe? I'm only starting my third week of exercise. I dunno.

I bought a proper scale that does the whole BMI and all that. I weighed in at 201! 4lbs lost in 2 full weeks, yay - maybe even less because I ate a fair sized meal two and a half hours ago.

I sooo don't want to go to the gym today - I'm being lazy! But I didn't go yesterday either and I really should. Its only a cardio session anyway.

-------

Also! I wanted to add I am updating my May 2009 goal weight to 160 for now. 145-150 is the long term goal, but maybe not doable by end of May. But who knows, right? I would be ridiculously happy at 160 considering where I am now.

I don't think its rushing in on using the free weights. Start at a lighter weight to get comfortable with the movements on the exercises, then build up to heavier weights. Maybe you need to change PTs if she's not comfortable with them? I don't know... I think I've seen Steve lamenting a few times here that a lot of PTs tend to shy away from the free weights.

I ended up making it to the gym last night. I upgraded to 40 minutes of steady state cardio, my first week was 30 minutes, second week was 35 minutes.

.............. had a good day at work today, relatively productive. I had a problem thats been haunting me for over a week, and I finally got it solved today. My theory turned out to be true, but it took over a week for my user to get herself straightened out and would explain her story different to me each time.

Oh yeah, I guess I should mention I'm a contractor working for the provincial health ministry. I'm a network administrator, so basically I'm looking at firewall/network logs and code all day. We manage over 200 internet/intranet connections for health facilities in the province.

In fitness news, I had another good day of eating. But I missed my afternoon snack and was STARVING by the time I made it to the gym right after work tonight. I also had a headache before I went to the gym. We did some free weights and some killer back extensions. However by the time I left, I must've drank too much water because I was nauseated, starving and had a killer headache. I had to come home and lay in the dark for a bit to recuperate.

I have to try get more protein, some days I run short and end up not having a protein based supper. I gotta look for some protein shakes maybe. Tomorrow night we have skinless chicken breast on tap! Side dish undecided yet.

Its my Rest day today! So exciting. :D

I must get to a grocery store tonight on my way homefrom work and buy yogurts and fruits.. I keep forgetting.

Great work increasing your cardio, well done

You needed to have a light snack before hitting the gym as being starving would have contributed to the feeling of nausea and eating within 20 minutes of finishing your workout is also important.

Tomorrow is hockey night, I'm psyched to see the improvement! Tonight I had oven baked skinless chicken breast w. two tbspful of rice and a baked potato.

Any suggestions on the protein shakes? Good brands, brands to stay away from etc? I don't have the time to prepare food for lunch snacks every night and would like to stay away from spending too much time at Subway (only have a half hour lunch break and its the nearest healthy place to eat).

I'm looking forward to tomorrow night's hockey game to see my improvement, the first two weeks were an awesome difference in fitness levels. I can only look forward to getting better !:cheers2:

Its that dreaded time of month, oh noes! :(

Hockey went really well for me physically, I'm so proud of my improving overall fitness. It's like night and day compared to 3-4 weeks ago!! Our team lost though, for some reason our team lost its brains and had several penalties in the third period and overtime. :banghead:

Tomorrow night I am back at the gym with the trainer. I'm still on the fence about the whole personal trainer thing, I don't know if I'm unsatisfied with the actual training itself or buyer's remorse/cost. I do enjoy the moral support and she has shown me several new things, but am I hung up too much on the lack of more free weights? I don't mind the weight machines but always read that free weights are more beneficial..

My book came in the mail, The New Rules of Lifting for Women. Reading it now. Yay!

Tomorrow is cardio night..

Kinda sleepy and I'll probably head to sleep after I make my diary rounds!

I went to weight training tonight, I found my quads were weaker than usual tonight - could be a result from last night's hockey most likely.

I am getting more room around the waist area in my pants, weeeeeee. One of the final straws of me deciding to lose weight seriously was the fact when I was looking at my work clothes that the pants was wearing around in the inner thigh section (lol). That definitely sent me into WTF mode. And, well, that is where I'm making the most noticable progress. Yay!

So yeah, thats kind of a silly story for me, kinda embarassing but yeah that was the last straw. Ugh!

I'm also having problems concentrating on hockey - I don't know if I'm just losing that competitive edge now I'm older, or I'm playing for fun. (I was WAY competitive when I was younger).

I ordered this book from Chapters.ca on Sunday and it arrived Wednesday, been reading it since The New Rules of Lifting for Women by Lou Schuler. Very good, informative and has some humor in it. I didn't book another session past Monday with my trainer, I just may use this book instead as it has a 6 month weight/strength training plan in it.

Had a decent food day I guess. My brother ate up my cereal >.< - I have to go to the grocery store (again!) to buy more, and back again for yogurts. Gah, this is the one thing I dislike about the whole sticking to a weight loss plan, is the constant going back/forth to grocery stores for fresh fruit, vegetables, etc. To make it worse I live in an apartment and I don't have enough room to store extras. Booooooo

No exercise tonight, I will be making it up on Saturday and Sunday instead - I usually take Saturdays off but tonight I was sleepy after work and got in a great 2 hour sleep.

I'm down another pound, weee! Despite the fact its minimal at the time, it just feels so rewarding because it all adds up and this is the most focused I've ever been. I've had minor cheats, like a handful of chips or half a pepsi/soda but have always found it really smooth on getting back to drinking water instead.

Today I went and bought all my groceries I was low on, yogurts, cereals, milk etc. Also went to the gym and got my 40 min cardio going. I'm basically an introvert anyway so its not hard for me to stay focused on cardio.

I've been doing some online Christmas shopping, I have a couple gifts down and only a few more to go.

In other news, for Christmas I only have the 25th off I was too late in requesting my holiday time. I'm very discouraged about that. I'm going to be applying for a job with a different company, the company I currently work for doesn't have the best employee benefits and we are drastically understaffed. I'm only a junior analyst at the moment and they are asking me to perform senior analyst level work at a junior analyst payscale and I'm less than a year into my position so my work confidence is like shattered. wtf eh ... Overall I'm just not very happy about my job aspect at the moment. Gah.

I think my brother may be getting a gym membership at my gym, and all he does is free weights - so hopefully he comes and helps me out! haha, he's a skinnier guy and really active, so he'd be a positive influence.

I weighed myself this morning as soon as I woke up, and I'm at 197! /cheer

I'm really happy about that progress! I had breakfast already and tried out this insane cereal called Fibre One - it looks like cat food haha, it tastes okay once you get past the aesthetics.

I edited my first post in the thread to include my Sunday weigh ins, and will be doing that consistently just to see the progress - I could see that information on my ticker graph too. But what good is that when other members can't see that sort of stuff, ya know?

I had a handful of kettle cooked chips and a tall glass of iced tea last night, it was SO GOOD - I wanted a bit more but reverted back to my water and had an orange instead.

Overall, I'm still in a great place mentally for all of this and have pretty much embraced the eating healthy and the not quite daily gym trips (4 of 7 days per week). This forum is such a great support system and I'm feeding off of everyone's stories and trials/tribulations. Not to mention I'm like a sponge when it comes to good information and I'm soaking up all the helpful posts!

I guess I should come up with some reward weight goals once I hit them. For fun and to keep things interesting. I'll go with 5lb increments. I bought myself a new pants and sweater last night as my initial reward. :D

My next goal is 190. I won't decide what i want until I get closer but it won't be anything too extravagant.

Monday night I did some squats, pushups, situps and bent over rows at home, I couldn't make it to the gym. :(

Sometime Tuesday our fridge broke and I wasn't home most of Tuesday, and never looked in the fridge so just found out today when I got home. EW, I lost all my fresh food and pretty much everything else.

My landlord is away until tomorrow, so I won't be getting my fridge fixed/replaced until at least tomorrow :(

No hockey tonight, I gotta clean my fridge and I'm exhausted from work. Been a really busy week at work. Gah!

Food levels/quality have been okay, although i did go to burger king with my bf during lunch yesterday and had fries. BAD!

Back! After an exhausting week and much needed time to mentally recuperate I am back to the gym. I haven't been there since last Sunday! the good news is I didn't gain drastically and was back at 199 yesterday AM.

Today I am also off to pick up some fresh foods again, our landlord purchased us a brand new fridge! Woo!

I'm off to the gym to continue my cardio:willy_nilly:
