My "Complete" Transformation

Very inspiring before and afters. Now I know what I gotta do to get those abs, make better friends with the cardio and watch my diet like a hawk. Great job.

I simply speak up b/c gyms are full of people who make absolutely no progress in terms of hypertrophy. ...

And adding a couple of inches of muscle here and there isn't going to be accomplished with a constant fear of gaining fat.

...
...

I just wanted to squash some common preconceived notions associated with bulking.
You have to eat enough to facilitate growth is my point.

... so take it for what it's worth.

Steve, I really appreciate you taking the time to write all that out man, it sure is generous of you. I have not been going to the gym for "years." But I have always had the health and fitness "bug," in my before picture I was fat because of a hospitalization, it was the heaviest I had ever been. I'm going to quote you and then go more into it... "I think I have a clue."

I know about tons of people who've been going to the gym for years that never add an ounce of muscle, I also know people who go through college and don't learn a thing, I also know instructors at the gym that impart abdominal classes and have a huge gut themselves, I know about tons people who work in customer service and do everything but provide that, I know tons of people who take voice lessons and do not improve their singing, I know people who have been going to a therapist for years and their lives just seem to be getting worse and worse... I think I've made my point clear.

But these can all be starting points in these peoples lives! Two years ago I went to the gym 4-5x a week for months and noticed no improvement. But I was also a vegan and barely paid any attention to my nutrition. Honestly, I also didn't know I had to eat for bulking. Quite honestly I didn't even know what "bulking" was!

Now I do, and I moved on from that, I have read many books on the subject, including the famous Burn The Fat, Feed The Muscle and I think I know what I need to know to get to where I want to get. People like you are here to help on the journey and I appreciate your help. I can't remember where I was going with all of this, but hopefully I have at least marginally made a point. We all have to start somewhere and progress from there... I guess I'll stick with that as the main point.

All things said, I said this to another poster before and I'll say it again "I know what I'm doing!" I guess I did make that stupid premature statement of going 10% over but I already admitted that I was talking out of my behind! I sincerely do appreciate your well intentioned help! What goes around comes around and I'm sure you will get what you deserve for being a generous soul ;)

EDIT: I also know people who think doing a million crunches will get rid of their stomach fat! Or twisting will get rid of their love handles! I've also had people who are overweight, who eat Yodels and Twinkies on a regular basis, who drink Snapple (to them it's a "healthy" drink), soda, and eat extremely processed and refined foods (White Bread and the such) and give me advice on what supplements I shouldn't take and love to constantly give me health advice and tell me what I'm doing wrong. I've had a couple of obese women tell me what diet I SHOULD go on and what to eat or what to do! I also have people telling me I shouldn't be a vegetarian, because it is not healthy or natural! In the meantime, I can't remember the last time I got a cold! And these people are constantly ill! Lastly, I get many people telling me I'm "anorexic" and making fun of my nutritional regimens and that I'm "ridiculous," some people have gone as far as saying that I look healthier in the Before picture than in the after, that I look "emaciated" and I look sick. Other favorites include: I'm Obsessive, I have an eating disorder, I have body dysmorphia, I'm crazy, I'm so skinny it's gross... I must mention that course all these people are in worse physical shape than I am. Some of these people genuinely think that I need help (and they don't). Life is filled with this!

HOLY F***!!!!! That is amazing!!!!!!!

You think? Thank you!

Thanks. I suggest you read Tom Venuto's Burn The Fat, Feed The Muscle to learn about exactly how to "watch your diet like a hawk." It's a ebook, google it if you're interested.
