MY LOSS OF WEIGHT: 266 lbs to ???

STARTING WEIGHT Feb. 2010 : 266 LBS (120kg)

Before
Waist Size: 44
Size: XXL

Back in April of 2010, I stumbled upon this forum during my weight loss journey and it definitely helped reading peoples success stories and how they were able to accomplish their goals. This motivated me; “if they can do it, I can do it”

“Motivation is what gets you started. Habit is what keeps you going.”Jim Rohn

“The thing always happens that you really believe in; and the belief in a thing makes it happen.”Frank Loyd Wright

How I got so heavy:
During my college years, I worked part time on a fast food place and I was a hardcore Computer Gamer, I munch on chips, chug on sodas while playing for hours. Since I work at a fast food place I ate what they serve for my break time which consist of sodas fries and a burger. Majority(almost all of it) of my daily meal came from fast food and processed food.

The Breaking Point:
Waking up every day feeling muscle ache and join pain. I was feeling so miserable and to get rid of that I ate even more food. No energy, having a hard time sleeping, waking up in the middle of the night catching your breathe. I felt like that hour glass is ending for me like my heart is going to give out at any given moment, that’s pretty sad for someone at the age of 23 to think that, but I felt like If I don’t change my ways I will suffer a heart attack at an early age.

My Work
Majority of what I did was on the treadmill or the elliptical machine. I started out in the elliptical machine as soon as I lost some lbs I think I was at 240s. I felt comfortable enough to switch to the treadmill. I work my way up from walking then jogging and eventually run at a fast pace which I don't recommend on the treadmill unless your used to it then I added the weightlifting portion of it. A typical day for me is I would jog for 15 mins, stetch, weightlift for an hour then finish it off with the elliptical for an hour. I did this routine 4-5 days a week as weeks pass by I added new workouts and increase the time. Currently my current typical day is I wake up I do a quick 5 min jump rope then 10-15 mins on my elliptical at home and some lightworkout to start out my day then head to the gym after work warmup in the treadmill for an hour at 6.5 mph pace every 15 mins changing it to 8.5 mph pace for 2:30 mins then back to 6.5 pace then I stretched for about 30 mins followed by liftingweights for an hour and 30 mins drink my whey protein and ending it with either the stairmaster, bike, or elliptical at the end.

Some things I did that helped:

1. Avoiding Sodas and Fast Food Places

2. Drinking lots of water, keeping a water bottle around me at all times even at work.

3. Keeping a balance routine day to day, avoiding sleeping late and getting my 8+ hours of sleep.

4. Giving 100% effort and every workout and exercises I do whenever I go to the gym day in and day out. Once I get out of that treadmill I am literally dripping with all sweat.

5. WHEY PROTEIN!

6. Lots of salad, reading the Nutrition Facts on Food labels and ingredients. Keeping my sodium intake at 1500-2000 mg. HEALTHY EATING =)

WOW!

I started shaping up back in June with my starting weight at 274. I got down to 247 by mid september, but over the last few weeks, i've been on a major slump of no motivation. I come back to this forum to see if i can kick start my progress again, but your pics are truly an inspiration since our starting weights and goals are roughly the same. Thanks for posting.

Also, on the assumption that you didn't know much about strength training when you started, how did you figure out a training routine? Did you get help from friends? did you get a trainer? did you just read lots of web pages or books?

this is really my issue right now. I have no idea where to start, and by the looks of it, you obviously know what you're doing. lol

Great job, that is amazing. Have you reached you goal weight?
You look really good!

I feel great, when I started out I set my goal that I would reach to a point where I would feel healthy, lively, stress free, energetic is a success for me. I am happy to say I made it there.

Ultimately I want to reach a mark where I feel I have all lean muscle( if such a thing exist lol), but I am in no rush to get to that point. I abused my body with junk for over 3 years, I understand that burning the fat should be set at moderate pace where our skins are able to keep up, but we all want instant gratification we want to see our results right away and sometimes that sets us up for failure if we don't see results and we forgot the "having patience"

I understand the frustration of feeling that your in a standstill, I made a weightloss diary where I posted week by week about my week to week weigh-in and some weeks you gain some weeks you lose, there may be water weight involve, but ultimately you gotta hang in there. You made the steps toward being healthy you feel better and healthier than you did a week or months ago. For me whenever i stayed at the same weight for 2-3 weeks i just positive I assume my body is getting used to your workouts, so I end up adding new workout and exercises to my routine. Last Monday I did my first pull up ever and I haven't done a single pull up since I was a kid that was something that is rewarding for me and worth it.

I was a former track player and football player back in high school, so I knew what I have to do. The hardest for me is accepting that I hit rockbottom I was not the same person I used to be in highschool and starting all over again and knowing the sweat and pain that is involved.

That is an incredible transformation!!! It is difficult to believe that you were ever anything but slim and buff looking at the recent photos. Well done

=) Whats really awkward is even though I feel really great and energetic, sometimes I still feel like that "before" picture from the outside since I was at that weight for such a long time and I guess thats what is motivating me everyday that fear of that "before" picture creeping up on me if I slip towards unhealthy

Incredible transformation and thanks for the detailed breakdown above, it's always great to get some insight into how it was achieved.

Nice job man. You look great but more important sounds like you feel even better than you look. Good luck with maintaining and adopting this as your new lifestyle. Looks like you are well on your way.

Just to keep an update on whats going on

After eating dinner and weighing myself
"Onderland" goal reached
Last time I was at "onederland" it was 7 years ago.

New pic posted up top =)

Excellent job. You and I have the exact same breaking point (mines has a bit more, but anyway) sometimes I felt like I was about to die and I would wake up in the middle of the night with my heart racing with a sense of impending doom, stuck between sleep and reality. How tall are you, btw?

I was 5 feet 10 inches, but when I went for my yearly physical and got my height and weight checked in the doctor's office I was 5 feet 11 inches *no shoes* it probably due to the weight in belly . I got taller! It was nice the doc saying "what your weight was 271 its at 211 ohh my no more obesity diagnosis for you" haha that was priceless hearing that =)

btw I see your using myfitness pal, It is one of the best powerful weight loss tools out there that can prevent you from food disasters especially if you have an iphone to track what you eat. It makes it harder to fall off the wagon with that tool in your hand

Haha thats awesome don't think I've heard of anyone your age actually getting taller. And yes, that must have been the greatest feeling hearing that you're no longer obese. '

I haven't really tinkered with the myfitnesspal except to mess with my ticker but I do plan on getting more into it :)

I'm actually close to what you were before you lost weight (i'm roughly 258 give or take a few and i'm 5'8) do you have any skin tag issues at all after losing all that weight?
