muscle reps and sets???

I know i prolly sound stupid but i dont really get the whole reps/sets things. Like i get that you do a certain exercise like say, lunges. The reps are the amount of time you do it in that set, yeah? like if you did it 8 times that would be that set.

But what i dont get is when do you enter the next set? How long of a break do you have in between each set? And how are you supposed to know how many reps to do and how many sets to do?

Reading that through is confusing, but if you get it then an explanation would be appreciated

Your rest interval between sets will be determined by how many reps you're doing, which also determines how heavy you're lifting.

The lower the reps, the heavier the weight, the more rest you will need.

Generally, under 6 reps 2-3 minutes rest, 8-10 reps 60-90 seconds rest, 10-15 reps 60 seconds.

And it is important to train across all those reps, what you do when depends on goals and the rest of your program.

If you do an exercise program that calls for 3 sets of 10 reps (let's say for bicep curls) then it would look like this:

Do a bicep curl 10 times in a row- you are done Set #1

Rest for about a minute.

Do a bicep curl 10 times in a row- you are done Set #2

Rest for about a minute.

Finish with 10 more bicep curls- you are done Set #3 and with the exercise since it only called for 3 sets.
