muscle deteriating

What a techniques to use when im not wanting to have muscle taken off my body when i do cardio to lose fat? Thanks to anyone that can answer this for me.

Dan

its not the cardio that will make you lose muscle, its your diet, if you try starvation diets they'll make you lose weight, but mostly muscle and water weight...so cardio is fine to do and encouraged to lose fat, you should also mix it up with weight training on other days as well, switch off i mean...if you dont have weights just do pushups situps etc...

well, if you run for long distances the body will use muscle or protein as energy (after what ive heard, not 100% sure), if you want to loose fat but not protein or muscle you should do HIIT, since the short but intensive intervals wont go on long enough for your body to start burning the protein;) do a search on the forum for HIIT and you should find a thread with TONS of info! ;)

Diet is the most important aspect when trying to maintain muscle while burning fat. You have to manipulate your diet accordingly.

Nutrition is important. But when you lose fat you will inevitably lose some muscle. But it won't be loads and loads of muscle (unless you are under eating).

The best thing to do is to continue lifting with weights that fatigue your muscles on each set and to do varying cardio lengths and intensities.
