muddy's trip to healthyville

Day 10 - June 26, 2010

Today was a good day. Managed to make myself get up at 8 and go to the farmer's market to get some fresh fruit. Boy oh boy, let me tell you, there's something incredible about fresh blueberries. I threw some in with my oatmeal (which is pretty flavorless to begin with as it's the weight control one), and it made it soooo yummy. Next time I go Saturday I'm really going to stock up on blueberries. Try to get a lighter yogurt and have some with it. It's also wonderful that I can buy a nice little bundle of them for $3. Blueberries (pretty much any berry) at the store is so expensive I never bother with them.

The man and I walked a good walk today. Since he doesn't like to... well... really move to get your heart up when we walk I have added in running ahead a little bit and then walking back to him, walk with him a bit, and then run ahead again. I also know this is a good way to burn calories, running (which I actually am, instead of light jogging) mixed with walking. We walked to my parents' house, which was a total trip of 2 1/2 miles or so. Nice walk/run, as it rained again today and it went down to about 70ish degrees! It's amazing, that's about 30 degrees cooler than it was a few days ago.

Here's the food diary for today:

Day 10 - 6/26/10 Calories
Breakfast: Oatmeal with Portein Powder/Blueberries 300
Lunch: Sour Cream Chicken Enchiladas 500
Snack: 2 String Cheese 140
Dinner: Inside Out Lasagna 400
Snack: Low Fat Yogurt 170
Total: 1510

With the running/walking of the I'd say I came in around 1400-1350. Not too bad in my opinion. I need to stay around 1350 a day to lose two pounds this week, so I did well today. I am proud of myself :)

Day 11 - June 27, 2010

Had a great day today. Really great actually because I totally just turned off my alarms without doing the actual waking up part. Sooo.... I slept in really late today, till noon. It was wonderful.

Worked out today. The people on this forum really inspire me, and reading through the journals and posts by people made me get off my ass and go do something in my gym today. So thank you everybody here!

Here's my food diary for today:

Day 11 - 6/27/10 Calories
Breakfast: Oatmeal with Portein Powder/Blueberries 300
Lunch: Shrimp with Veggies, Hot and Sour Soup 800
Snack: 1/2 cup blueberries 30
Dinner: Sour Cream Chicken Enchiladas 500
Snack: Kiddy Cup NSA TCBY Yogurt 80
Drink: Screwdriver 250
Total: 1960

This might seem like a lot but I actually preplanned having a few extra calories with a small yogurt and a drink by having the nice, long workout. I burned close to 300 today (worked out for about an hour), so this total is more like 1660. Or at least I think so. I had trouble being able to calculate how much I had for lunch. My boy wanted Chinese really bad, so we went out and got some. I googled the healthiest thing to eat at Chinese restaurants and everything pointed to vegetables and, if a meat, shrimp.

So I tried to calculate my meal: shrimp with vegetables. I had them put the sauce on the side, and I only had about five bites of the huge piles of fried rice (so proud I didn't eat that as it was sooo good). Also had Hot and Sour Soup (100 cals only), with, no egg roll :(

A lot of different sites said different amounts of calories for Chinese Shrimp with Veggies. I took one of the highest calculations I found and used that, just to be safe. However, being honest with myself, it could actually be higher or lower than that. The site said 700 cals, but I didn't eat the rice nor did I have really any of the garlic sauce, so I would assume that might bring it down. But I'll go with the highest amount just to be safe.

I hopped on the scale this morning (couldn't resist) and I was weighing in around 185... But now my boyfriend has hidden the scale - I have to make him do it or I weigh myself constantly, I can't help it! - so I look forward to weigh in this Thursday! I can't wait to lose my first ten pounds. Love said he'll make me my favorite meal for me when I get there. Gotta love a supportive significant other <3

Well done on making the right choices with the chinese food. I went to a family lunch at a chines buffet a few weeks ago and didn't do as well as you but did much better than I normally would and so still lost weight that week :)

Day 12/13 - June 28, 2010/June 29, 2010

Feel bad that I didn't post yesterday. I wanted too, but at night time my friends called me to go out with them to a restaurant. This was my first time out with my group of girls since I started eating better and let me tell you if was REAL tough to turn down a Margarita... especially with three other girls around you drinking and enjoying it. But I had my one drink for the week Sunday night, so there was no way I could do it.

I did enjoy some chips and salsa... there was no way to sit in a Mexican place and not have some and eat it. But I didn't order anything to eat with it, which I was tempted to do since I had eaten about 3 or so hours prior to going there. I'm proud I resisted.

....But then of course my sister and her friend wanted to do Mexican tonight so I took them out to eat. I didn't have my boyfriend with me tonight so instead of splitting fajitas I ordered tacos al carbon. No rice or beans with it, so that was good. No sour cream or cheese dip. It was four small corn tortillas (homemade yum!) with some grilled steak and lettuce, and just a tiny amount of cheese. Overall, in terms of choices for dinner, it wasn't too bad.

Of course it's not the food that gets me when I go to Mexican restaurants. It's the gallons of salsa I down and the chips with it. I just can't limit the chips intake just yet. I work hard on not eating an actual big meal there these days, so I will work on the less amount of chips later. I will always eat alot of salsa. I don't really worry about sodium though; I work out fairly often, and I am an excessive sweater. In fact, I have played doctor and diagnosed myself with hyperhidrosis. Anyways, I sweat enough during the day that I get rid of a lot of salt intake. Even my personal trainer said I don't really need to worry about sodium. Since I don't use salt on food ever, my intake comes from salsa/hot sauce. And I use those only every now and then.

Here are my two diaries from yesterday and today. Not bad, but I need to buckle down and stop going out to eat so much. It's been a bad week, but I still am proud I've kept it roughly around the 1450 to 1550 mark.

Hiya Muddy!

I just skimmed through your journal and saw that you are also an oatmeal afficionado! Well done! (I like the cookies and creme flavoured protein powder with my oatmeal!)

And great job on the weight loss and making great choices when you eat!

Looking forward to your progress! Keep up the great work!

Well done on not overdoing the eating out, you should be very proud of yourself. I find it very hard to resist when I eat out so don't eat out often. I go with good intentions and then cave although I still eat a fraction of what I used to when I went out.

Yeah I need something quick and easy to make in the morning, and oatmeal does that completely. I wasn't the biggest fan of it, as it was pretty bland the one I bought, even with the vanilla flavored protein I add. But now that I put in half a cup of fresh blueberries I think it's like the best tasting thing in the world!

Day 14/15 - June 30, 2010/July 1, 2010

Woops, once again I haven't posted in a while. My life has gotten pretty damn busy now that I'm tutoring a lot along with having class twice a day. My morning class requires a lot of reading, so by the time I get home and get that done and answer the questions with it I completely forget to upload my diary. Thankfully I'm not so lazy that I do not keep up with what I'm still eating.

I lost 1.5 lbs this last week! That brings me up to a total of 5 lbs! Yay!!

There is something really exciting when you start getting to the lower level of a ten pound mark and are about to cross into another level of ten. I dunno, it seems to keep me very motivated now that I'm getting closer to hitting the 70s and getting out of the 80s. Can't wait to see that 70s, because that's only 10 pounds away from 60s. When my weight hits the 60s that's when I start to look A LOT better in clothes.

Here is my diary for the last two days. I will also post my diary for today later on:

Day 14 - 6/30/10 Calories
Breakfast: Oatmeal with Portein Powder/Blueberries 300
Lunch: Turkey Sandwich 370
Snack: Cucumber with Hummus 130
Dinner: Sour Cream Chicken Enchiladas 500
Snack: Popcorn and Cheese 170
Total: 1470

Day 15 - 7/1/10 Calories
Breakfast: Oatmeal with Portein Powder 260
Lunch: Inside Out Lasagna 340
Snack: None
Dinner: Salsa Potato 500
Snack: None
Total: 1100

I'm very pleased with losing 1.5 this past week, considering I went out to eat a lot. The only time I go out this week (barring any last minute social calls) is for the Fourth. Hahahaha, I'm not even going to count calories on the fourth because I don't wanna know the horrendous amount I'm going to go over. Not only am I celebrating the Fourth for Independence Day, it's also my boyfriend's birthday.... It's like a double celebration! That means a lot of food, alcohol, and cake. All I will do for Sunday is make sure I work out really hard before we begin the celebrations!

I will post today's diary later tonight.

Hope everybody has a great day! :)

Day 16 - July 2, 2010

Not much has happened since this morning's post. I didn't have to go into class because my prof got the flu. I hate that he's sick since he's a really cool guy, but I'm not going to lie, I enjoyed not having to go to class. I was up at 7:30 this morning, but I took a nice long nap when I found out I had nothing to do today.

Got all my boyfriend's birthday presents done. Boy I hope someone hires him soon, it's getting REALLY hard to survive month to month without him making some money. Since he comes from a family that is on welfare, he can't look to them for money (even though his dad owes him nearly $400) so it's basically me as the sole provider at the moment. Thankfully my family has helped us financially, but they are getting starting to worry that my boyfriend isn't trying hard enough to support me. It's frustrating because I know he wants to work, it's just that jobs are so damn hard to find that him getting one is becoming so difficult.

That felt good to write out. It's been stressful, so I'm glad I can complain to somebody or anybody.

Here's my diary for today. Not too bad, though I didn't get a workout in today. I need to start getting in more veggies and fruits; haven't really had them that much lately and that's not healthy.

Day 16 - 7/2/10 Calories
Breakfast: Bean Burritos 310
Lunch: Turkey Sandwich 370
Snack:
Dinner: Sour Cream Chicken Soup 400
Snack: Large Glass of Red Wine 170
Total: 1250

Wow, we really do have a lot in common. Same food preferences and everything. Seems like you have a really good diet in place. Good luck!

Hope that your boyfriend finds work soon. I know so many people that are having trouble finding work this year and things are getting really worrying here. I hope the economy picks up soon for everybody.

Thanks for the kind words. I didn't mean to complain in that last post, but I just wanted to get it off my chest. We have a little bit of breathing room because he got his check from reimbursement on student loans, which he's giving to me. That will pay the bills for this month.

But yeah this economy is very rough. In the past you could just be like "oh you need money? just get a job!" but that's not how it works now. The places he's looking at - and he's looking at them all, fast food, grocery stores, etc - there are 10 to 12 people interviewing for them before you. It's just rough you know? Between being a student and trying to get your degree and working to make money, it's a hard juggling act.

Luckily I start up my second tutoring gig and that will bring home some extra cash every week. Hahaha, thank GOD we don't have any kids that we are having to take of on top of this!

Day 17 - July 3, 2010

Ahhh I wish I hadn't been so lazy and gotten up at 8 and went to the farmer's market. I really wanted some fresh blueberries and some more jalapenos (gosh they are so good from there) but I was like "psssh I'll just go Tuesday instead." So I rolled over and fell right back to sleep. Oh well.

Tomorrow's the bad food day. We are going to go to Outback to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday; I've already been looking at the nutrition/calories and it's very bleak. There are like no meals there less than 1000 calories! But it also says how many servings are per meal and it's like 3 to 4. So what I'm planning on doing is asking for a to-go box right at the beginning of dinner and putting half my meal away for another time. This way instead of having 1200 calories (I already know what I want to order... am I the only one that does that, check out the menu of the restaurant I'm going to to know exactly what to get?) I only have 600-700. If I get a side I'll get the fresh veggies, as that's only 170 calories. What will probably end up getting me is if we get an appetizer... they have cheese fries and that's a particular weakness of mine. We shall see if I cave in or not.

And of course we have cake for tomorrow... God, I'm just not going to bother counting calories. I'll make smart choices, but for my food diary tomorrow I'm just going to put ALOT for total calories.

I will take consolation in the fact that I will exercise. Today was SOOOO nice outside; my boyfriend and I walked 3.2 miles. We walked to the Chevron for him to turn in his application. I think we made a good impression because the boss of the place was working there today so he got to introduce himself, make them laugh with his quirky personality. They gave him shit for being a yankee, which he smartly replied "hire me and you can make fun of me every day for it." Boy do I love this man. Sure hope they offer him a job!

Here's my diary for today:

Day 17 - 7/3/10 Calories
Breakfast: Bean Burritos 310
Lunch: Turkey Sandwich 370
Snack: Cookie 150
Dinner: Inside Out Lasagna 350
Snack: Carrots with Humus 105
Total: 1285

I think I did really well again today, even though I got pretty hungry at several points. Although I love being lazy at home, it's those days where I'm sitting around that I want to eat alot. When I have class and lots of reading and tutoring I am too busy to really get hungry.

And yes I was bad with the cookie. I went to a really nice bakery to pick up his birthday cake and they were just sitting there, all Fourth of Julyish and so damn delicious looking I swear I heard them going "be patriotic, eat me." So I did. I wanted to buy the whole tray of them but I just got one. But damn it was soooooooooo good :drool5:

Here's to a great food day tomorrow. Going to enjoy it to the fullest and not feel too guilty of the high amount of calories.

Hah! Yeah, I have all the calories for different restaurants programmed into my iTouch. It's the only way I can keep being sociable, otherwise I'd never go out to eat again. I insist on knowing where we're going before we leave in case I have look up the nutrition facts online. It's probably annoying as hell, but I'm fixated and there's no going back.
Do they look all awkward at you when you ask for the to-go box right away?
Also, had not tried carrots with hummus before. I liked it.

Woops, haven't gotten a chance to get back on here in a while. Glad I'm not the only one that checks out calories at a restaurant. Usually the high amount of calories can discourage me from getting certain food items.

Well our date we ended up splitting some cheese fries. We didn't eat that much - it was a small cheese fry - but by the time I snacked on it and our food was brought out I was not hungry at all. So I ended up asking for a to-go box anyways. The waiter was a bit surprised, even made a comment that I hadn't even gotten into my meal. I just said the snacking filled me up, but I would eat the meal probably in a few hours when I got hungry again.

Which I did end up snacking on it later. Gosh it was very yummy.

Anyways, I have been bad and haven't gotten a chance to update in a while. July 4th/5th I didn't keep calories. I know I didn't go over 2000 calories, but it was just to difficult to keep up with things (what with leftovers and whatnot.)

So here's yesterday's diary:

Day 18 - 7/4/10

I will update tonight for sure. I'm not going to be too busy today thankfully :)

They're trying to pass some bill or something that requires all chain restaurants to post the nutritional values for all their food, in a hand-out type thing. That would make everything so much easier!
