Mrs Shadow's Diary

Oh this is scary. Even though no one here actually knows me in real life, I am putting my details out for all to see.

(Deep breath) Okay. I weigh 95kg...almost 15 stone! I've just been getting bigger and bigger, and finding I can wear hardly any clothes.

My darling husband just says to buy new clothes that "disguise" any extra bits, but nothing can disguise the fact that there is just way too much of me!

So I looked out my old Atkins book today, and have reread all the important bits. So from now on, no more desserts unless they are low carb. And not even them for the 2 weeks I'll be on induction.

Fortunately my darling boy supports me in whatever I do, and says he'll keep eating whatever I put in front of him. Of course he could stand to lose a pound or two himself.

So my new diet starts tomorrow.

So today is the day. Mind you last night's dinner - a very tasty moussaka - would have been almost acceptable for induction. Probably too much tomato.

Anyway, today's food will be strictly "good." Scrambled eggs(3) for brekkie, chicken and salad for lunch, and tuna patties for tea. probably have another salad with them.

I can see I am going to have to do a lot of planning ahead. I have no idea what I'll be having tomorrow, so I'd better start to get organized so I can do some shopping if necessary.

HI! Glad to see you started a diary!! Planning ahead will be a saving grace and worth all the time you take with it! :D Hope you've had a great day! I look forward to seeing your progress :D

Welcome to your diary!:)

First, I am glad you came here.

Second, I would like to suggest that to help you get organized that you make a weekly meal plan so you don't miss meals and such. I've found this extremely helpful and that way I don't stray from the plan too much and less munching because I know when I get to eat next.

So do you have any goals you'd like to share???

I've only just found the following questions, but will answer them now.

How much weight do you want to lose?
35 kg

What is the timeframe for reaching your target weight?
I hadn't really thought about this, but may as well set myself a goal. I should be able to lose 4 kilos a month, and will make that an interim goal.
So my first goal will be to have lost 4 kilos (be 91kg) by 1st August.
Overall, I plan to have lost my weight by 1st April 2007. I won't be an April fool next year! :D

How do you want to accomplish your goal (what methods do you want to use)?
I am following the Atkins Diet. 2 weeks of induction, followed by a gradual increase in carbs until I stop losing, then drop to the last level.
I am also exercising, walking for an hour a day - usually in 2 half hour sessions. I plan to start some weight lifting too, but will wait until my body has adapted to eating the low carb way.

Who or what can support you in reaching your goal?
My husband will probably be the most important support. He does not exactly understand what I am doing, but does understand that I need to lose, and supports any efforts. I had planned to cook him some starches on the side, but he says he is happy to eat my way, and maybe he will lose a bit of his extra as well.
I am also planning to use this forum to help support me too! ;)

How realistic is your goal?
Good question! I guess time will tell, but I am hoping that although I haven't been 60 kg in too many years, it is possible.

When will you start?
Today: 13th July 2006.

Thanks for visiting, BizeB and Miss Kallie. It does help to know that there are others out there lending encouragement. :)

A weekly meal plan sounds like a really good idea. Thank you! Should make the weekly shopping a bit easier too. I'm going to get right on that.

As you can see, I was working out my goals as you were posting. ;)

Off to add my first goal to my signature.

Welcome to your diary, you're off to a roaring good start, and it's awesome that your husband is the supportive type (or is he just well trained and does what he's told :D

Your goals seem manageable and you're gonna do great...

Thanks for the welcome, Maleficent. I think hubby is just well trained... :D

Well I am happy to report in that after just 3 days, I have lost 2 kilograms! I know it's mostly water at this stage, but it's pretty encouraging.

Fortunately we have no social engagements this weekend, so I don't need to practice my "No, thank yous" just yet. I think my family will be pretty good, because they've noticed me getting ever fatter, so I hope they'll be supportive of my weight loss efforts.

I haven't measured myself yet. I know I should, but there are some things I just don't want to know! That's how I was about my weight for a long time, so maybe one of these days I'll get out the tape measure. ;)

Welcome. Your goal sounds feasable. If you are anything like me, pre-planning is the key. That is for sure. Good Luck.

Thanks, Maleficent and Pineola. ((Hugs)) to you both.

Well, it's been a week, and I've lost one more, making a total of 3 kilos for the week. I realise the weight loss will probably slow down some now, but that's okay. I'm sure happy so far. :)

Lost another kilo! I'm now down to 91, 4 kilos lost. I am getting pretty excited by this. Of course I do understand that this rate of loss cannot continue for too much longer, and that most of it was fluid, but it's still pretty exciting.
Not only are the scales going down but my clothes are looser already. I have a pair of jeans that I could not wear comfortably only two weeks ago, and yesterday I wore them out with no trouble.

I am so looking forward to dropping a whole lot more. :)

Oh dear. Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear.

It has been 3½ years since I was last here, and in that time, I regret to say I have gained, not lost. I am now....deep breath... 103 kilograms. *gets calculator out* That's over 226 pounds! *cries*

So, once again, I am restarting. This time my first goal will be to get under that horrible 100 kilogram mark. I'll try to get there in the next couple of weeks.

Once again, my loving hubby is supportive. But then, he "supported" me all the way to this weight. As he so often reminds me, he loves me whatever I weigh, but he promises to help me lose "if it will make [me] happy."

I'm still low carbing, but am now doing Dr Groves instead of Dr Atkins. Very similar, but I have a bit more leeway with the Groves plan.

Now I must go and update my signature.

I had a good day today. Stuck with just 3 protein shakes, since it was Day 1. Plus, Mr Shadow is out tonight, and a protein shake seemed like an easy yet healthy alternative. I'm considering sticking with the shakes for breakfast and lunch for the next few days.

Today's numbers: 1400 calories and 24 carbs.

Another good day. I was down 500 grams already this morning, which was nice.

2 protein shakes
stir fry steak and vegies

1500 cals, 18 carbs

I forgot to eat lunch today. Partly because I was too busy, but mostly because I just wasn't hungry.

I must have had a lot of extra water on me (in me?) because I am already down 2 whole kilograms. I really like this honeymoon period of weight loss.

Today I ate:
cheese and salmon on toast
beef stroganoff

1150 calories, 26 carbs
