Motivation

I use to be really into my nutrition and working out. But recently summer's starting to turn me into a bum. Every night I look at myself and wish that I ate/exercised more sensibly and promise to start doing so the next day, and never would because I lack motivation. Does anyone have any ways to start motivating me into getting back into better shape before I lose all the progress I made so far?

You have to find your own motivation.

having only good food available to you helps a lot. have a posted calendar with your workout schedule on it, and give yourself stars when you go, and big red X's when you slack off and miss a day.

review your family medical history...do you wanna be obese and diabetic at 40? does taht run in your family? how about heart disease?

Lmao that's awesome.

gotta find ur own motivation, helps me to think about just why exactly do i work out, and try to eat right. Are u working out, to get chicks? working out to be one of the big guys, working out for sports? for whatever reason u workout, u gotta dedicate urself to get to ur goal! SOOOO GET UR ACE TO THE GYM NOW!!! :D

try perhaps to get a workout buddy, someone that will keep u on track, that always helps me, when im gettin bored with lifting.

start trying some new exercises, perhaps ur bored with the same routine.

Perhaps some hardcore metal music! or working out when ur in a bad mood, thats always motivating!

and writing down a schudule to keep too, thats a good idea toO!

good luck!

music is a good way to amp up.
find pictures of people who have bodies you want. post them around your room as a constant reminder.
start an online blog/diary and write in it daily.
get a training partner, and you can motivate each other.

Motivation is fleeting. Setting goals is O.K. but there is a fatal flaw in the goal setting mentality.

Goals are things you get and you get them by doing something (working out, starting a business, whatever) So in a sense goal setting is a do then be strategy. If I work out and eat right (DO) then I'll BE fit, and confident. The do to be doesn't work because if you don't do what your supposed to you will never be what you want.

Now if you start with being the type of person who is fit and healthy especially if you're not that type of person now it will be almost impossible to not do the things that will make you fit and healthy.

This all may sound a little new age and mystical but it's not. These techniques have been around for years if not decades. If you take a few minutes a day to relax an picture yourself as the type of person who never misses a work out or the type of person who is confident and successful, you will start to be that type of person and as a result you will end up getting the things that go along with it.

So don't' do to get to be. Be to do to get.

Your mind is the muscle that makes everything you want possible.

I agree with this mentality. Setting goals gives you a sense of finality to your work. This is the way i used to look at dieting. I used to set a goal, get to that weight and diet, till i reached it. Then, well, i stopped dieting, cause i reached my goal.

You have to kinda just embrace the lifestyle. You have to become a person who lives the life of a fit person. Once you become this person, then you can set goals. But never forget, you are in this for life.
