Long weekend this week so I thought I’d start piecing the bike together ...

Im impatient at the best of times so waiting until May for the brake levers is just not an option. Hunting around local bike shops turned up nothing either so I’ve got a bloke at my local ordering a set on Tuesday for me. Still have to wait but nowhere near as long.

Now I just need to decide what saddle and pedals (think I’ll use chrome flat pedals with toe clips) to go with, then fit them and the levers and finish with wrapping the handle bars in black bar tape.

Really happy with how it came out. These aren’t the wheels I’ll stick with but they’ll do for now. I think I’ll keep an eye out for some blades spinergy wheels ...

The bottom photo is a set of spinergy wheels they’re banned from competition for safety issues (limbs getting caught in between the spikes in crashes etc. a few rabbits have been ... dissected when running through the peloton)E040E084-7369-4B1D-B43E-991A71B6F183.jpeg3AA7F32C-66BF-40DA-AF52-210CF004D1CB.jpegD213111C-9426-45F0-AEEB-9F5EC521AD09.jpeg63C17376-138E-42C4-BA6B-2F1892C2B0F0.jpegC9A66E47-BE6B-44C5-B698-0535C52535C0.jpeg

Frankenbike! What a name!
:DBut it looks really good - I much admire that marbled effect with red and black, especially with the flat silver of the handlebars. The overall effect is very stylish - a tough, uncompromising and zappy style, in contrast to the more classic one the other day.

(That's a horrid thought - the rabbits in the spinergy wheels - stay off the track, little rabbits!)

Quick update ... I’ve had a sore throat for a couple of days. Had to take sick leave today; woke up with a full blown head cold. Now I’ve been quarantined from work. Crazy but I understand why.

the next couple of weeks are going to suck. No cycling and working from home with no human interaction.

Hope you feel better soon! I am pretty sure it's not the Corona virus, the odds are against it. Odd as it sounds I think you might be better off if it was, for a young healthy person like you I don't think its any worse than a bad cold and once you've had it your worries would be less (maybe).

The bike is looking good, anxious to see the final product.

If you feel up to it does your quarantine prevent you from cycling? Seems like you could do that without close human contact.

Not totally cut off from human contact! There's phones and the internet. :) And as Rob says, you can bike around (provided you didn't stop to chat with anyone) as soon as your cold is gone.
Look after yourself - lemon juice in hot water is good, I think, with added garlic, ginger, honey, brandy... whatever takes your fancy!

Thanks guys.

im feeling slightly better now BUT I’ve slept for around 30 out of the last 48 hours and taken a lot of Sudafed.

I’m a bit bummed actually because the brake levers I’ve been waiting for arrived today but I don’t feel up to installing them and certainly not riding.

luckily I’m not quarantined for the whole 14 days ... yet. I need to get to the doctor for clearance to return to work but if the tests are clear I can return once the symptoms subside.

As Rob says the odds are against it and I’m not worried about coronavirus at all. It’s just poor timing to come down with a head cold!

the world is panicking; I went to my local supermarket today to get bread and milk ... canned goods sold out, toilet paper sold out, sauces sold out, pasta sold out, eggs sold out. It’s like we’re prepping for the end of time! People are just crazy.

If you (of all people!) don't feel up to installing brake levers, then I think you need that sleep and rest (and good nutrition!) Take as much of the sick leave as you need! Is there anyone who can help you stock up with the food you need?
(Minor point: I thought Sudafed was no longer available?)

Ended up installing it yesterday.

I’m all good. I always keep tins of kidney beans, tomato and chickpeas in the pantry so no need to go to the shops now.

Sudafed is still available here. It’s my life line right now.

Hop
I know here anyone with any cold or flu symptoms is being treated as a pariah, corona or not. Probably the same down there. .

absolutely the same here. I was saying to a friend on the phone it’s really hard to hide the blocked sinuses and nasal voice when in public but you have to to avoid panic. I’ve checked and double checked. My symptoms are NOT indicative of corona so I don’t need to self isolate but obviously I’m still carrying around a virus so I’m sticking to myself as much as possible.

Go, TM, bikie extraordinaire! :) (But still give yourself as much rest as you think you need, and then a bit more.)

About the sudafed - I thought it was banned for being an ingredient in ... something or other. Speed? But obviously not - maybe it was just taken off the non-prescription list?

pretty sure any cold medication can be used. It’s the pseudoephedrine that’s used in methamphetamine. Don’t know anything about it being banned; I just walked into the chemist and bought a box off the shelf.

got me wondering now ...

Ok after a little google search the Sudafed PE (with phenylephrine) is available over the counter where as anything with pseudoephedrine is prescription only.

Finished the bike today and took it for a very short (300m) test ride in Port Adelaide.

Rides like a new bike. I’m very happy with how it turned out.

in other news I’m disgusted by society. I did my grocery shopping tonight and I have to take some of my toilet paper to my Fathers house because he can’t get any. A 76 year old man having just finished chemo for bowel cancer and he can’t buy toilet paper because of the selfish stupidity of a minority of people.054D8956-1845-4844-AABF-C6F98F17BF5F.jpeg
