Well the inevitable happened. Was forced to pack up and evacuate. A bushfire is currently burning very close to my home. I was at work so I called my partner to grab my dog and I assisted in some evacuations at our worksites.

I’ve just heard now that the fire is contained as the winds changed and it’s now burning back on itself. I’ve been able to get back home and it’s untouched. We’re not completely out of the woods yet but it’s unlikely to reach us now.

I have a very special friend at the office to thank for letting me know. She knew I was working away from the office today so when she found out about the fire she was the one who called me incessantly to let me know. The automatic alert from the CFS never came through.

Wow, that has to be scary.

Be safe!

definitely concerning that’s for sure. We’re now in the clear so it’s all good. The threat has been downgraded to a watch and act and we have rain and a 20 degree cool change coming in tonight so it should be relatively easy to control now.

I hope you got more rain than we did, TM (1/2mm) & really hope that cool change came.

Sounds like just what you need. Summer is just getting started, will this fire threat last months longer?

the threat here is over now. One of our work sites was burned but no one was hurt.

bushfire season here is November to April. I live in a residential area so it’s very rare that a fire comes this close but there’s a lot of scrub land not far from here.

last night was bad with all the smoke wafting over.

We all got through it with only a little damage caused so we have something to be grateful for.

cool change came in around 9pm. It’s now around 27 degrees so it’s a bit of a shock to the system. No real rain though. Just enough that I now need to wash my car.

Merry Christmas everyone. I hope you all get the chance to spend time with your loved ones and pig out on delicious food all day!

personally this is the first Christmas I’ve had off work in 13 years and I plan on making the most of it.

took the bike for a pre breakfast ride this morning. Haven’t been riding recently because I’ve just been too busy with work and before that house renovations. It was a lot harder than I’d like but I’m putting that mostly down to I’ve neglected the bike recently and the chain is in desperate need of a clean, tyres were low and I’ve lost some fitness but that’s ok. I’ll get back to where I was easily enough.

I got back into it today. May have bitten off more than I could chew but I headed out on a ride up the Barossa bikeway. It’s been on my list for quite a while but I’ve just never got around to doing it.

it was stinking hot but I thought “what the hell. I can always turn back if I need to.”

All in all a great ride with some great scenery. Very very hot and I think I got a touch of heatstroke because I was feeling a little sick and headachy on the way back but I made it and I’m now sitting under the aircon.

I won’t post all my pictures because I’ve got to resize them to load here but I’ll put a few from the ride in ...B6864F42-86C1-487F-BF1A-8C859B7521AE.jpeg88DA465A-FA3E-4BCC-A005-00AB92171F34.jpeg47E21D49-0E61-49A6-A601-C7C9B1E3258D.jpeg
