bugger, take care of yourself !

It’s all good. It won’t stop me haha

Had a great ride today.

I headed back to linear park bike way today but because I had more time I took it the whole way. Started in Athlestone and went to west beach and back. Unfortunately my phone died on the way back. Only worked this out when I checked google maps to see where I was (completely lost) and saw I had 3% left so I took a screenshot.

It’s a slower ride because it’s a shared cycle/pedestrian path but it’s definitely worth it for the scenery.

Stopped to help a tourist fix a thrown chain and had a couple of good chats on the way too. All up approximately 70kms today (the screenshot was taken around 15km before I reached my car).

Also I’m thinking I’ll do mount lofty tomorrow and maybe linear park again west beach to cbd only (half way).

Just gotta hope the hike doesn’t kill me. My ribs are still quite sore so the heavy breathing is going to HURT.

Well no ride today. I did make it up mount lofty. The normal trail was closed due to flood damage and the open one was much longer but easier. All in all 5.9km up in 1 hour 9 mins and 5.9km down in 1 hour 3 mins. I never felt the need to stop for a second to catch my breath which I can partly attribute to my increased general fitness but mostly I think to the easier climbs.

4 months ago I used to be the guy that was getting passed by everyone on the way up. Now I’m passing everyone

All this exercise is paying off.

I’m on mount lofty now (on the way down) and I realised something ... my butt muscles hurt. Its been a long time since I’ve had butt muscles let alone sore butt muscles.

A couple of photos of my hike today. This is mount lofty; very close to Adelaide C0ECFF41-AAB1-4EC4-96C1-BEE90F9FD5EF.jpegE435FA7F-EEAC-460E-A83C-9B6D3F74F7EF.jpegD7AF9815-FDF9-4150-810A-3A58C848126A.jpegC513DDC2-DCCE-4BC8-A9F5-BB82F85BB383.jpeg

On the way home from the hike today I stopped off at West Beach and took a ride to the cbd via the Linear Park bikeway.

Heading home now feeling quite happy with today’s effort.B6D1C2AC-F0D4-47CE-A78F-4E95EF91BD97.jpeg03E9AFD4-FB31-4DCE-8429-DC529D044921.png

It’s official. I’m an idiot.

I over did it on Wednesday with the hike and ride. My ribs were killing me on Thursday so after work today what did I do? 50km on the bike. I know I need to let my body heal but I just can’t seem to sit idle.

It was a good ride though. Slower than normal because of traffic lights and my ribs but good nonetheless. 62E50882-0614-4BB2-A893-079C0036D10B.png

I celebrated my last day of my “holiday” with a ride down the encounter bikeway from Goolwa to Victor Harbor today. All up 52km of beautiful scenery from the Murray river to the sea.

The ride was MUCH slower than I’m used to because I was stopping every 300m for a new photo. Here are a few. 50EDF1F2-BE4C-4620-8D16-272A94853304.jpegF779FB0E-4983-44D4-B0C9-8DC4545858EB.jpegE8E4A16E-C49A-4941-A6AF-1B579B1936E1.jpeg42337B4B-EF14-4957-8DF5-EE38AB288F28.jpeg50EDF1F2-BE4C-4620-8D16-272A94853304.jpegF779FB0E-4983-44D4-B0C9-8DC4545858EB.jpegE8E4A16E-C49A-4941-A6AF-1B579B1936E1.jpeg42337B4B-EF14-4957-8DF5-EE38AB288F28.jpeg

No scenic ride today unfortunately but I did still manage to get out on the bike.

I took the local dedicated bike path along the northern expressway and back home. A touch under 40km. I’m very glad I took a banana along though because I spent all my energy in the first hour. No idea why but I just lacked energy today. I guess I’ve not eaten terribly well the last couple of days. 31D0A3F5-B912-461E-A32F-98E86799A151.png

Not a hugely successful ride tonight. I decided to give my nemesis hill climb a crack tonight. I just ran out gears in the first km of the steep bit. I finally got to the street light which marks the worst bit and turned around. Headed around the block for a couple of smaller hills in the area to get my mojo back and then back home.

Id like to say I’ve realised something tonight but honestly I’ve always known it. This is not the first time it’s bitten me but ... I’m VERY stubborn and I’ve decided I won’t be beaten by a mound of dirt laned in bitumen so I’m going to tackle this logically. From now on for the next 2 months I’m going to do 5 short rides <20km up this hill focussing on just getting to this street light and just one longer ride >50km with a dedicated rest day every Saturday. I’ll continue this until reaching the street light is easy.

I’ll also be starting my food journal again as of tomorrow mornings breakfast because I think I’ve lost my balanced diet. I’ve not lost any weight recently (I’ve plateaued at 87kg) for the last 4 weeks but I’ve definitely lost fat and gained lean muscle because clothes that fitted me well before are now too big and clothes that didn’t fit are now perfect so I’m still on the right track but I just want to make sure I’m fuelling properly for my work load.

It occurs to me now though that I’m trying to eat properly to be able to exercise enough to get through my next work out without bombing. At this point it’s not at all for general health really ...E1D49F87-CD25-42C8-8CB2-C29180C00B64.png

My plan didn’t work too well today. I forgot to log my food intake. I did however set out on the climb. Failed again but that’s ok. Rome wasn’t built in a day. I’ve never been a good climber so this will take a long time plus at my body weight I’m fighting gravity so it’s even harder.

I barely had any time at all today but a promise is a promise so I still went out. Tomorrow night I’ll get a better ride in then day off and back to it on Sunday.

I do have a spare wheel with a much larger gearset. I might pop that on to make the climb easier. Don’t know how I feel about that though because my aim is to increase raw performance not just get to the top. I’ve climbed this hill before; not sure why I’m finding it so hard now but meh; time and practice will fix that.

Wooooo

Tonight I was umming and ahhhhing about whether to take the long ride or the hill. Finally I asked myself which one I’d prefer to do ... long ride soooo up the hill I went. If I always do the one I want to do it will always be the long ride.

I’m very happy to say I made it up without a stop. It wasn’t EASY but it was easier than yesterday. Yesterday was easier than the day before and I’m assuming Monday (I’m taking a day off tomorrow except for a short flat ride to the shops for fish food and to vote in our waste of time election). Sunday though I’m going to take a long ride around Port Adelaide. I haven’t yet decided if I’m going to ride there or not because I don’t like riding on the highway.

Anyway tonight is a good night!

Well my plan for a day off riding didn’t exactly work out today but that’s ok. Just a leisurely ride to the shops then another shop then the polling booth then home then I tightened a couple of bolts on the bike because it’s starting to develop a creak and a test drive around the block. The creak’s still not fixed so I think it’s service time.

Today was a day of mixed emotions.

This morning it was windy and cloudy so I thought I’d head to mount lofty for a hike instead of riding (hate riding in the wind). The wind died down so I decided to go for a ride after all. 52kms and I the wind picked up BIG TIME and brought with it the rain.

Although I got soaked and faced strong winds I actually enjoyed the ride plus I found a new route to Gawler that bypasses the main roads and highway. Good to know and I might make it part of my usual route.

Check out the windsock! That was blowing me around like a dinghy on the harbour AEC5BA93-4272-4582-900D-AD0C1DDC3428.png9E0ED8E4-B369-4B78-8A87-6364E34D8B28.jpeg

Tonight’s ride was great! I made it to my street light marker at 19km/h average! The last 100m or so killed me but I’m determined to do it easily one day (no reason; I’m just stubborn and once I get an idea in my head I MUST finish it).

Since I did it so quickly I decided to turn around, go for a short ride around the block to warm down and home again. A nice short ride as a reward (really didn’t feel like a long ride tonight).

On a side note it was so cold that my glasses fogged up from my breath.
