Monica's Motivation Book

Well, I've already lost 13lbs, so I guess that's good, right? But I want to get back to the body I know is really mine. I loved myself when I was 128lbs and wore a size 8. I had self-respect and confidence. I didn't mind people taking pics of me, I didn't mind looking in the mirror. Now I see a camera and my reflex is to duck and cover. I pass a mirror and I try to look the other way.

One of my big weaknesses is snacking between meals and also the night time munchies. I don't much all night long, but I always have to have that nightly sweet. I hate that. I wish I could just go to bed after dinner without feeling like I need something sweet.

And I'm seriously addicted to chocolate. Grrr...

So I think one of the main things I'm going to do with this diary is log all the things I eat during the day. It's one thing to write it down in your own personal diary...but knowing that i"m going to share with the public eye makes it completely different. I'm already completely horrified that I've posted my weight on here so many times! Eeesh! What if an ex boyfriend saunters through here and sees how much weight I've gained over the years! haha

Also I've just realized by reading through some threads that I'm not drinking NEARLY enough water!! I have good days when I drink loads of water. But most days I have maybe 3-4 glasses...not even the mistaken recommended amount!! :p

So here's to the hope of this forum helping me reach my goal weight!

I'd like to lose another 50lbs or so. Ideally, I could lose this in the course of the next year. I think that's realistic enough if I really buckle down and set my mind to it.

Hi Monica :)
Welcome to the WLF and to your diary!

There was a time I would never say my weight - and now, I have no problem. Part of the reason why it doesn't bother me is because I am working to change my weight. I am taking active steps today to get healthy and I'm proud of that. You should be too :)

The other part, is that my weight, whatever it happens to be, is not *me* it is only an *aspect* of me and one that can and will change!

I'm glad you joined the Halloween Challenge (Yay Voluptuous Vampires!!) Definitely drink your water (we've got to get that extra bonus point!!)

I'm just gonna jot down what I ate today...cos there's no better time to start than...IMMEDIATELY.

Today I had no breakfast. (uh oh)
Lunch: 2 salmon/mozarella cakes with 4 new potatoes.
Shortly after lunch, I had 2 biscuits (cookies) with a cup of 1% milk.
One cup of coffee.
Tea: wholegrain rice with red bean chili and broccoli.
Dessert: blueberry pie with 1small scoop Strawberry ice cream.
Water so far: 4 glasses (but I intend to drink more tonight.)

So maybe today doesn't sound all that bad (besides my post-tea ice cream!) But a lot of days I don't do quite as well at not snacking...in fact, I'm not even sure how I made it with so little snacking today...but at least it shows that I can.

Anyway, I think that knowing I'm going to post on here whatever I'm eating is going to help a ton!

well, I can be...the only problem is-I live in with the family I work for as a nanny. And the mom usually cooks dinner in the evening...so how would I know how to count those calories?

Hi Monica,
Counting calories is easy for the individual things (yogurt, etc, any label you can get your hands on), it really is a lot harder when someone else is doing the cooking.

Are you able to talk to the mom and ask her about what she's fixing? Otherwise, you can guestimate using sparkpeople.com fitday.com or any other calorie counting site.

I found it really HELPS me to stay on track!

Hey Monica,
I used to be the queen of munching too much throughout the day and at night. I have started drinking water whenever I feel like my stomach is pushing me to eat too late at night because it seems to quench the thirst I have to eat. I also go for a walk after I eat dinner, even if its just for about 10 minutes. I'm only just getting into routine and I know it can be hard sometimes, and sometimes my self control is pretty weak. Don't feel bad when you cheat. Just make sure you try just as hard tommorow to put in something healthy.

You are doing a great job so far, and I think this will definitely help you, writing a journal. I love the title to your diary. It's great that your using it for your motivation. Keep going!

* Hugs *

congradulations on the 13 pounds lost so far
when you feel the urge for sweets get a glass of water or go for a walk it really helps

Thanks so much guys! You have no idea how much it helps to just hear an encouraging word and to know I've got a support network. Today after lunch, I was planning on having some ice cream. And then I thought to myself, "No, cos then I'll have to put that in my food diary...I'll pass!" haha So this is actually really helping!!

Breakfast:
Lunch: grilled chicken with new potatoes
Tea: leftovers from last night (chili with rice and broccoli)

Water so far: 80oz

This place has been great. I keep watching out for the articles they put in the news section. I've become a fiend wanting to find out more information so I can keep motivated. It's been great.

Hi Monica,
I am a recovering snack-a-holic and I'll tell you what helps me sooooo much...gum. I try to keep it on my person and in my mouth whenever I'm not eating and it really helps curb my appetite. I guess because my mouth is moving my brain thinks I'm eating. :p I don't know but it works for me. A day with no gum, is a baaaaaaaaaaad day for me. I'll probably eat something I don't need. My favorite brand is Orbit. I keep a pack in my desk at work, my purse and my bedside table at home. A girl's gotta do, what a girl's gotta do! :D

Best of luck to ya! :)

Thanks, that's a great tip! I'm not usually one for chewing gum...but I might go ahead and give that a try...

I'm on my last glass of water now. Last 16oz and I reach my 94oz goal and then some...

I'm so proud! Can't believe I did it!

I met my goal yesterday! So proud!

Today I'm halfway through my first liter. :)

Had half a slice of ham for breakfast...that's all I had time for.

The last time I drank so much water I got sick, so I'm a bit worried about that happening with the challenge but I'm trying my best to make it.

Great job in meeting your goal!!

I've had a really nice day today...I think drinking all my water yesterday helped me to wake up this morning feeling refreshed and ready to tackle another day. It's amazing that reaching even a small goal like that can motivate you to keep going. I did it yesterday, so I know I can do it again today! :)

So I got up this morning, bright and early cos I had a Dr appointment. I'm actually really happy with how it went. She had put me on Orilistat (Xenecal) about a month ago...it didn't help me lost any weight at all...but it was causing lots of very undesirable side effects. So she took me off of it! yay! Instead, she gave me some helpful dieting advice and tips and really stressed the importance of eating lots and lots of vegetables, wholegrain rice or pasta, etc.

I told her about my new water intake. She was a little bit alarmed at the amount and advised me to be very careful b/c she said it sounds like an awful lot. But she said that water is certainly a good way to go.

So then I left there and went straight to the produce market on the High Street. I picked out lots of fresh veggies to make myself a wonderful salad and then I went in the supermarket and got some turkey cutlets.

Came home, and prepared the salad in a huge bowl. I made enough to last me the week hopefully. Then I baked all 4 turkey cutlets, seasoning each one differently.

So for lunch today, I had one baked turkey cutlet, green beans and a HUGE helping of salad with only 1tbsp salad dressing on it!! I couldn't believe that that was enough dressing to do the job! I usually put way too much on and end up not even enjoying it! lol

So now I'm sitting here, about to do some posting and then some reading (in case you're wondering, I'm off work today.) and I'm drinking my 2nd liter of water now.

so yeah, at the moment, I'm feeling pretty darn good! :)

Congrats on getting off the pills and now it's time to take off that weight off naturally and safely. An educated weight loss is the healthy and smart choice. I think you'll enjoy this method much better than pills or gimmicks.
