Well let me introduce myself. My name is Matt. I am 24 years old and am overweight. I've been this way since I was 15. It all started when I first was able to drive a car, which meant that places like Burger King, McDonalds, Pizza Hut and others were now at my disposal whenever I wanted. By time I graduated from High School I was about 265lbs (my height is 5'10").

I didn't begin college until two semesters later and went on a diet (thanks to my Uncle) and lost about 40lbs. Once I began college the whole diet thing started to getting wobbily. I eventually went on the Atkins Diet and lost another 20lbs bringing me down to 205lbs which was the lowest I had been in a LOONG time! Of course I didn't follow through and jumped back up to about 220lbs. I stayed this weight throughout my college years. I graduated back in December 06' and since then have not led a healthy lifestyle. I joined a gym about three months ago but have only used it twice.

So today, the 26th of August, I wake up (a little hung over mind you), look to my computer desk where I see a Burger King bag with an empty 9piece Chicken Fries box, empty large fries, empty Double Cheeseburger wrapper. I smack my head and decide to see what damage I've done...hop on the scale with a reading of 229lbs.

This is it...I am sick of this!

Today I am starting my diary, loading up my MP3 player, gathered my gym clothes and got them ready for tomorrow morning (would go tonight but have to work), going to the store, and beginning...no...continuing what I started 5 years ago after I finished highschool. This post is a lot of talk...let's see if I actually walk the walk! You may have your doubts...I'm even asking myself if I will follow through. Right now I am frustrated with myself and I know there is only one way to change it. Tomorrow night will be post number two...it's either sink or swim!

What I ate today:

Breakfast - Nothing (stomach felt like crap after that greasy food last night)
Lunch - Deli Roast Beef sandwhich with a slice of cheddar cheese.
Dinner - (Tonight will be a salad while I am at work)

If anyone has any questions or comments please feel free to post.

This is war! :flame:

Good luck Matt!! You can do it, I know you can. You can do anything you set your mind to.

I'm looking forward to your future posts! :)

The first shots have been fired:boxing:

Today was the official start of my journey. Yesterday was full of preparations and today started off good (not great but good)!

What I Ate Today:

Breakfast - Unfortunently nothing again today. I usually don't eat breakfast so this will be a habit I must break!

Lunch - A turkey sandwich, exactly one serving of fat free pringles, and some carrots.

Dinner - Grilled Chicken breast and some rice.

I managed to even say no to the family when they sat Pizza Hut right down in front of me. To avoid all the annoying "you dieting?" questions I simply told them I already ate.

To top it all off, a friend of mine posted some photos from my weekend...god they were inspirational (and horrifying to look at :rotflmao: ). After I saw these, I was off to the gym. I was only there for a little over an hour (some stretches and then an hour on the eliptical). Tomorrow I will start lifting as well (nothing extreme...more focused on losing weight before body building).

Also I have decided that Mondays will now be my new official "weigh in" days. Instead of going by everyday measurements (heaven forbid one day is up one pound) I figure I will be able to track better how I am doing by weighing in once a week. Today's weigh in was 228lbs...so perhaps when I weighed in yesterday at 229lbs...my body was still digesting the approximatly 1500 calories of Burger King consumed at 3am

Enough rambling tonight. I'm tired

Hi Matt

welcome to the forum and good luck with all of your goals. I see you're determined and i think that's awesome. it is not an easy thing to change lifestyle and habits but i'm sure you can do it. however i do have some tips if you don't mind.
i'll give you some links so you can check it out by yourself. basically the first one is from one of our members (wishes) where she wrote really useful stuff, and what is very important she also put a toll for you to calculate how much calories you should be putting in daily in order to healthy lose weight.

Just in time!

I woke up today feeling good! I had gotten through Day #1 and so Day #2 didn't seem nearly as hard.

It was a gorgeous 80 degrees out today so I decided to go on a bike ride (havn't done this since I was in high school almost 6 years ago)! All in all it was about 6 miles around the lake and two miles to get to and from the lake (8 miles total). It was a nice two hour bike ride.

Of course it is now about 1 hour later and its starting to look like its going to storm! Thank god it didn't rain while I was riding (there would of went my iPod).

I plan on going back to the gym later this evening (not as many people there later).

Now to go whip out that George Foreman grill and cook up some dinner!

WEIGH IN DAY

Havn't posted these past few days because I've been really busy (working double shifts to make up for not working this weekend and going out for my good friend's bachelor party).

I skipped the gym Friday, Saturday and Sunday but have been eating well each day (only cheated on Saturday since we were all out drinking and having fun).

I was very tempted to weigh in on Sunday BUT decided I would wait it out. I've noticed I've been feeling a little better even though weight change is minimal. I guess the best way to describe it is that I don't feel "bloated." I've also been trying to cut down soda as well...I typically only drink diet soda but am cutting down to one can a day (no more). The rest is water (unless I have a small glass of milk in the morning).

But anyways....figured I better update since I've slacked on it the past few days. Today was the day I weighed myself and I am very pleased with what popped up: 223lbs!

My friends wedding is in a couple weeks....if I could be between 210-219lbs I'll be very happy!

Well its about six o'clock...I think I'm going for a bike ride again and then hit up the gym later.

Weigh In Day

Well another Monday means another weigh in day. Its been an decent week. I havn't gone to the gym nearly as much as I wanted to (3 times) but still managed to drop a couple.

While this week wasn't as significant as last it still was good and this will hopefully only inspire me more to get out there and drop some more!

It's starting to get a little colder which means the bike rides won't be as sweaty and the tan I've gotten from them (which people have noticed :)) will fade...oh well! The gym will HAVE to make up for it.

Anyways, not much to say really today. This next week is going to be tough (two weddings and a rehearsal dinner)!!! We'll have to see how I managed. But without further ado...

Today's Weight: 220lbs

Great job! Looks like you are going to make your goal for your friends wedding. Weddings are hard with all of the food and cake. Not to mention if they have a bar. I just went to one last night :S. I think it turned out OK though... just make sure you keep up with your exercising if you know you might indulge a little.

Yes well there are two weddings this weekend for me eek!

The food thing I am not too worried about, I have been really good about not giving into temptations these past two weeks. The alcohol though is another story. Oh well...we will just have to see!
