YI-YI-YI, why are the bodies so damn complicated!! Why can't it be easy like when I was 20 and I burned calories by sitting on the toilet for heavens sake! Getting old SUCKS!

Don't mean to downplay your lament! We love you too!! Maybe, just maybe you might consider upping your calories to 1800 and see if it jumpstarts your weight loss??

Yeah, I'm going to try and eat a little more during the afternoons and see if that helps, this weekend I'll buy some protein bars and keep them at my desk, maybe that will give me more energy also. With my power class I do a ton of squats and butt busting excercises, I just have to keep it up, I always make excuses and try to avoid that class if at all possible. I hate it, which you all know, not meaning to be a broken record. Any other suggestions on something I can buy at eat at the office without it going bad?
 
Hmmmm, peanut butter is always good--or almond butter!! ($$$$$) Squats are great but to really BUILD muscle you'd have to use weighted squats. Don't knock the Power!! LOL!

I think that would be a good number also Kim...You've got nothing to loose - only the weight!!!
 
Yeah! You can either use dumbells or put a barebell with or without weights (without is 45 lbs) across the back of your neck on your shoulders and squat below parallel if possible--be sure to stick your butt way out! Keep your back straight! And concentrate on the burn in your glutes!
 
Maybe I should increase another few hundred calories, I've become a freak about calories and eating good, I get parnoid when I think I've had a bad day, which means I would have eaten 2000 calories or so. Maybe, that's my problem, I'm not eating enough. I will be willing to try that for a week. I would die if the scale went up! !LOL LOL that would be my luck, but hey, I'm game for anything, really I am!!!

I think that's precisely the problem, you've been hitting that deficit consistently for too long without giving your body a maintenance break every few days or weeks. Be prepared that the scale may go up during your first maintenance week, but I guarantee it will come back down when you go back to your current calorie level and I believe it will go down from there. I would do a maintenance day every week at least (probably about 2000 calories); don't feel guilty about your maintenance day, its good for you! I took a whole month off from exercise and deficits to get things moving again (their moving very slowly but at least the scale finally moved a few measley pounds). It seems counterintuitive but I really didn't gain and it seemed the only way to get things moving again. I would also probably take a week off from the gym and maybe just walk a mile a day if you have to do something. I really think this is going to work for you because you've been pushing your body so hard and its pushing back.
 
Another way to shake things up is to do some heavy lifting. Those classes do so many reps that you're not getting the ultimate benefit out of it. You should try those same exercises using weights heavy enough that you get tired after doing 2 or 3 sets of 10 reps. Also, if you want to shape your butt and add some mass there if the fat is running away, try doing some heavy squats and walking lunges. The butt is a large muscle so heavy weights can make yours stick out a little more if you're concerned.

i've been doing power exercises for 6 months and even though they're sometimes such pain in the ass, it really forms my body. this is why i'm so sad my gym is closed for the summer. i try to do most of the exercises at home, but i don't have weights heavier then 3 lbs :(

That's what Iwas thinking too, plus maybe deads and good mornings....I secretly have NO boobs and no butt...it's all an optical illusion courtesy of lifting...I wish I was kidding but the tape measure does not lie.
 
Yes, I agree Cym. I mean I have plenty of real breast tissue but underneath it that's lifting up the breast tissue and making the boobs look bigger is muscle that I can clearly flex. So I would thing the same can be accomplished with the booty. I think lifting is the only thing to counteract the gravitational effects of aging :rotflmao:.

Yes, in our power class it's nothing but weight lifting using a bar or dumbells it's just done to music. It kicks my ass, because there are a LOT of squats involved and everything is while using weights. I'm using the bar and then 10 lbs weights on both sides or maybe it's the 5lb weights on both sides, either way that's exactly what I've been doing in Power, I just really need to take this class a few extra times a week, and maybe subsititue it for a cardio class. I'll do that and see what happens then.

I personally ate at maintenance much longer so I would definitely do that for at least a week. If you get worried about gaining, keep up the exercise that week (with the added weight lifting class like you mentioned). If you dont gain or lose anything, perhaps the next week you can lower to maybe 1900 and cut out some of the exercise, just for a week to get a break. I just think its time to mix things up right now. I would just see what happens after one or two weeks of easing up a bit and then getting back into it in full force. What do you think about this? It is a bit scary as the last thing you want is to PUT ON weight, but it does seem to work for people.
 
Hey, I'm game for anything at this point. I'm going to try and give it a shot, but it will be hard honestly eating all those extra calories, but I will try very, very hard. I really like cheese, so maybe I'll put extra cheese in stuff, I'll do something. Thanks Cita! and everyone else who gave me those great ideas!! Pray for me!! LOL
 
Ohh I'm really excited for you Kim. It's a great idea to bump up the calories, I feel better now that I get to eat a bit more food. I have been wondering where I'm going to increase the calories too, but since I have a problem getting enough protein in, I kind of have to eat more chicken..fish...that sort of thing. I'm curious to see how this works out for you. I think it's going to help quite a lot.

Boy Oh BOY am I tired today!! I'm not sure what happens to my body, but the next day after I did a night of group Power my energy is just drained out of me. I went to the gym last night and did 1 hour of group groove, Oh man I'm loving these new tracks. Then I stayed because my girlfriend showed up to do Group Power and I stayed with her for that. YI, YI, YI, it kicked my ass and bad! But I know it's just going to help define my body, so I'm not going to complain any further about it. I'm NOT going to the gym tonight, I"m taking a day off~ My girlfriend wants me to take a class with her at the gym in the morning, so I'll probably go do that instead. Maybe I can talk her into going to the winery with me, we haven't been in almost a year and well it's due. I'm sure she will not say "NO" as we have so much fun when we go and it's going to be a gorgeous day to do it. I need to check out their website today and see if they have any bands playing there, it's always fun when a festival is going on nearby. Well, that's about it folks. OH and I ate extra last night to make up for some needed calories, we will see on Monday if this EXTRA calorie thing is going to work for me or not. Either way, it's fun trying to figure it all out. You guys have a great weekend!! I'll try to get on line and post if I get the chance. CHOW BABES!!!:jump:
