Well, here it goes. The "atta boys" and the "aw shits" all in one place. I'm really looking forward to this. Another way to be accountable...Thanks for taking a look at my diary!

5'9" 211 lbs

2. If you were at an ideal weight now, what would that weight be?
145 and muscular.

3. At what weight would you like to be at four months from now?
163 lbs

4. Why do you want to lose weight?
Health, self esteem, to show others what I used to look like who've only
known me fat.

5. Do you want to lose weight for a specific life event such as wedding or
reunion? If so, when is that event?
No.

6. What obstacles could get between you and your weight loss goals?
Beer. Burning out or getting bored with my exercise.

7. Why do you think that you now have a weight problem?
No exercise, too much beer, used to make bad food choices and no
portion control.

8. What lifestyle changes do you think would help you lose weight?
No drinking, portion control, quality food, loving myself (that'd be
refreshing!)

9. Have you lost weight in the past? If so, what has worked in the past to
help you lose weight?
In high school I took an aerobics class that was really difficult. The
pounds just dropped off. Of course my metabolism was much higher back
then.

weight back?
NA

lose weight? Why do you think it did not work?
I went on crash diets and didn't assimilate smart changes into my life.

12. Would you try writing down all food and drink consumed for a given
period of time?
Already do.

13. Do you cook at home often? If so, what do you cook?
I only cook at home. Mostly biggest loser recipes.

14. How often do you go out to eat? Where do you go?
We rarely go out to eat, so when we do, I choose what I want.

15. What are your three favorite foods?
Teriyaki chicken, meatball subs & sugar free pudding.

16. What are your three favorite restaurants?
Davanni's pizza, Red Lobster, Crabby Dicks.

17. What are three things you can do differently when it comes to food?
Eat less of it in a sitting, drink water before a meal, keep temptations out of the house.

it, what would be different?
I'd love myself.

19. Do you eat when you are not hungry?
Yes.

20. Do you binge eat (large amounts at a time)?
No.

Home.

Biking outdoors, rowing (I used to be on the Duluth, MN crew team)

your goals?
Every ten pounds, I get to buy a new board game. I adore games. If you

different board games available nowadays.

31. Do you have rewards for certain goals?
Answered above.

Good for you for starting up a diary! It's very helpful. A great way to keep yourself accountable and for others to chime in with encouragement or a kick in the ass.

I see you've already lost the first 9 lbs. That's great. You're getting exercise and tracking what you eat so you're obviously off to a good start.

I'll be checking back in. Good luck!

Well, today my abs really hurt, and my pecs from lamo pushups, so I guess they weren't so lame after all. I can't wait to do them without having to be on my knees. The problem is, I've got so much weight in my bra that pushups, and crunches/situps are really a chore. I can't wait to lose some of this weight I'm hauling around on me. No wonder the elliptical works so well, I've got to haul my own weight up and down. The recumbent didn't make me do that. I just moved my legs out in front of me and it was very difficult to get to my target heart rate. I'm worried my body will adjust to my workouts and not be very efficient, but at 211 pounds, I think any kind of exercise will work...

And I'm convinced that muscle work is necessary. I want to be strong and protect my bones for the future. The Firm ad said weight training burns "3 times more fat than cardio". I'm a skeptic when it comes to infomercials, but I tried an older Firm set of DVD's I got off of Ebay and I love it. They are credible and their workouts are difficult. (not to mention they are one of the few workout DVD's that don't have a ton of jumping up and down) I still haven't done a whole dvd without stopping or skipping some, but it gives me a place to go. And I love seeing how the dvd's get easier every day I do them. I want to be strong again!

This morning I had BL Blueberry Buttermilk Pancakes. Not too bad. The sugar free syrup I bought is okay, but lots of nasties in the label, so won't use it often. They also suggest apricot fruit spread instead of syrup. I'll have to do that more often than syrup. I'm learning!

One of my problems is not eating enough. it's eight fifteen now, I'll have a snack at ten...

One more pound and it's a board game for me! Next time I feel I want a beer, I'll surf BoardGameGeek instead and shop for a new game...

Okay Michelle, make good choices today!

Okay, this is really painful, but necessary. I'm holding myself accountable for letting myself go. I had no idea it was this bad until I saw myself with my daughter in her first communion pictures. I was 220. Ouch. How could I let it get this bad? I really don't want to share the fat pictures, but I'm not turning away from the truth any longer...I was a size 12 when I got married, and I was disgusted with myself then. Now, I can't wait to be a 12 again! You can do it, Michelle. Seeing this horrid picture makes me want to go into the bathroom, stare in the mirror and verbally abuse myself, but I'm not going to do that. Instead, I'm going to get on the elliptical.

Pictures of me, a little overweight, fatter, and fattest:

cute daughter... good l ooking husband and you're quite lovely...

those pictures aren't awful -not even close... but you have to be happy with yourself... However this, shouldn't wait

8. What lifestyle changes do you think would help you lose weight?
No drinking, portion control, quality food, loving myself (that'd be
refreshing!)

Love yourself now - your family loves you for you... no matter what you look like -that little angel in the communion dress loves mom... you should see yourself the way she sees you..

Thank you for the kind words. It means a lot. And you are right, I really have to love myself, but it's really difficult right now. Your post made me cry, so I guess this diary is already working! Thanks for posting.:)

Just finished my workout. Sweaty, stinky but proud of myself. I've only had the machine for a week and I noticed today that I had to do it faster to keep my heart rate up. And doing it faster wasn't too bad.

Had five triscuits w/ tuna on them and five slices of pickled beets for a little zip for a snack before working out. Consumed my usual six cups (48oz or two bottles) of water while working out. I've been stopping the machine every five minutes for a quick gulp, then on with the workout. I'm thinking of making a long flexible straw and just sipping as I go!

Okay, I went up two pounds this morning when I went on the scale. I was so good foodwise yesterday and my workout was awesome. I haven't cheated for a week. What's up with that?!

Hi and welcome to your diary.

Just was reading and saw the above. There are so many factors that could cause a 2lb 'gain'. Your body could be adjusting the the lifestyle.

Mal is correct- the pictures are not nearly as bad as you think. I needed to be told the same thing- still not sure if I believe them!

You have a great attitude and are getting a great start.

Fish, I weigh in every morning...not doing THAT anymore! Maybe your Mondays are a better idea...

Guy, thanks for taking the time to read my diary, and for the kind words. No matter how the scale ticks me off, I'm not giving up this time. I guess it makes the losses even more fun after you've been disappointed, but then pushed on. I know now it's the key to success. But today, it stinks!

I did a full body Firm dvd today and my muscles are close to failure (I'm all wobbly) but I like it! Tomorrow it's the elliptical. Nice mindless exercise. I almost got through the dvd entirely today, maybe Thursday, but if not, that's okay too. I need to start patting myself on the back for successes instead of obsessing about what I couldn't do. SO unhealthy.

Thanks again guys for checking in...Congrats, Guy, on the 35lbs. Amazing.

Make good choices today!

Exactly. I couldn't put it any better.
If I focused on what I couldn't do at the start of this I would have given up 3 months ago. Great job figuring that out.

BTW- thank you for the congrats but the 35lbs were easy. The last 20-25 will be hard.:)

Your body is fighting back. It happens. Just remember that its a numbers game. Less calories in, more calories out. Your body will have to listen in the long run. Just stick with it. You will do it if you stay with your routine.

Thanks guys. It seems like such a simple concept, but has been so difficult for me. But, I like it! It's nice building yourself up and believing in what you can do instead of what I've been doing. Nothing is perfect and I don't have to be either...

Bucky Katt rocks! (A little jerk, but he makes me laugh on a daily basis and how good is that?!)

(fish)I will print it out and put it on the fridge...as soon as I get some ink for my thirsty printer....oh and I received my poster of Vin Diesel today and hung it by my elliptical. Like him or not, those muscles are inspirational!

Thanks, you'd think my body would be happy with all the good food and blood pumping! And thanks all for my first official kick in the ass!:reddevil:

Okay, well, we cleared all the beer out of the house last night...by drinking it. It's now a little after three in the morning and I can't sleep. Boy, that stuff is bad for you. That's the end of that. Going downstairs to get water from the fridge reminded me how well I worked out yesterday and that's keeping me from getting all upset about my cheat last night.

I did the blue dvd yesterday which has a TON of leg work. I hate leg work. After loading baggage for a living, my arms are still really strong, but my legs are not. The Firm dvd's that I have have a lot of lunges, leg presses, what-have-you. All miserable for me, but the pain in my glutes and quads this morning feel great. Hopefully they'll get easier for me. I did a ton of pushups too. Fun fun fun.

Today's the elliptical and its going to suck because of the drinking yesterday, but I'll just push on and get it behind me. Can't wait to get to ten pounds. My first goal.

Hello, hello. Congrats on the progress so far; you're doing a great job,.

Okay, well, we cleared all the beer out of the house last night...by drinking it.
I'm on the brink of joining AA. However, I think a lot of AA's ideals are absurd and too preachy. I believe one can learn to manage alcohol intake without going overboard. I didn't quit eating food, I just manage my food intake. I only drink about 1-2 nights a week, but when I do it's to excess and beyond. I just can't seem to stop once I get started. For some reason I can't separate going out and having fun with friends from excessive drinking. Every weekend is a challenge. Hopefully you don't have the same tendencies as me. If you are a responsible drinker, any advice for the moderationally-challenged that doesn't involve quitting all together?
