Michele's Official Maintainence Journey!

As I said in my first post- I have lost a lot of weight since 2005. I have been a little off track since April of 2009 because I got married. I haven't gained really- only 5 pounds but I like myself a tiny bit thicker. My main focus is to maintain and firm up!

So, with that said- it's time for me to get back on track! My journal starts TODAY! My goals are to work out 3-4 days a week. 20 minutes of cardio on the elliptical and weight train the entire body.

20 minutes cardio on elliptical.
Arms- Free weights- triceps, biceps.
Abs- Crunch machine and twist machine.

Hi Michelle,
I am also on a maintenance journey. I lost 35 pounds since early Feb. Now I weigh about 120 pounds and that is where I look and feel good. I have been working out (usually treadmill, sometimes bike) 5 to 6 days a week and doing light weights with my arms 3 days a week. I am still trying to find that perfect balance of exercise and diet to maintain. So far whatever I have been doing has been working ok. I have maintained this weight for about a month now...up and down a pound or two.

I am looking forward to reading your posts, especially since we are both doing the maintaining lifestyles and have similar goals. I plan to visit your journal often!

Hi! Thanks for stopping by! Congrats on your weightloss! I find that maintaining is harder than losing weight. I was successful since 2005. A couple of times, I'd gain 5 pounds max and then I would just work harder. But, all in all it's all about finding out what works for you! I look forward to seeing more of your posts as well! :)

I just noticed your journal and dropped in to say Hi :)

good effort with your exercise :)

Michelle,
That 's great that you have maintained your weight loss for so long...4 years! Do you accomplish this mostly be exercise, or in combination with watching calorie intake??

Hi, thanks! I do a combo of both. Once I reached my goal, I went from working out to 5-6 days a week to 3-4 days a week. I still watch what I eat. Of course I do cheat here and there but I did not even when I first starting losing the weight. A perfect balance is what worked for me!

Hi Michele,
Me again...sorry for all the questions, but I am so very new to this maintenance stuff! How often are you weighing yourself?

Currently, I am weighing myself twice a week, on Sunday and THursday, first thing in the morning. I don't want to obsess over the number, but I also want to catch myself if I start to gain, so that I can cut back a little on the calories or increase my exercise. Do you think this is a good plan? I don't really want to weigh every day, but only once a week did not quite seem like often enough.

Cardio- 10 minutes stair climber, 10 minutes elliptical.
Arms- Tricep dips. Free weights- biceps and triceps.
Abs- Twist, ab machine, and ab press.

Hey, don't apologize! I am willing to help.

When I started to maintain, I actually weighed myself daily. Sounds crazy yes but I did so to make sure I am the same weight every morning. That way, you know that your plan is working. Now, I weigh myself hardly ever because I know that I can maintain the way I have been and actually go buy the way my clothes feel.

Took some time off- I got sick last weekend PLUS laid off Tuesday. Been feeling down in the dumps. Now, I am ready to go back into my routine!

So sorry to hear about the job and that you were sick. These setbacks alone would not be good, but dealing with both must be very difficult. I hope you are feeling much better by now.

I had a family wedding and also celebrated my birthday over the weekend. I am happy to say that I did not gain any weight, despite not working out and eating lots of stuff that was not healthy for me! Time to get back on the treadmill this morning...

Thanks, I am feeling much better. Realize that it's not so bad taking a couple of months of for the summer. :)

Happy belated birthday!

You're going to see that cheating here and there won't make you gain. It actually takes a lot to make you gain. A good balance of a healthy food plan and exercise will keep you in good shape!
