Hello everyone.

This is my 1st proper day of losing weight.

I quit smoking 31 days ago and now have the confidence to tackle my weight.

I weigh 14st 11lb have a BMI of 31.4 aged 47

My target is to lose 3 stone and get my BMI to under 25.Time frame for this is 6 months but will perservere if it takes longer.

How i aim to accomplish this is by cutting down on my food/calorie intake drinking plenty of water and walking.

Support i have is this forum and will power.I think it is a realastic target and i started today.

What i have done today: ate nothing for breakfast (i do intend too in future) pasta for lunch and jacket potato/beans/cottage cheese for tea.I done a 30 minute walk just before lunch.

I will try and update my diary regular and keep it brief.

welcome to your diary...

If youdon't already- i'd suggest getting an account at or one of the 100s fo other free food diary sites to keep track of your calories... and don't go too low with them... keep it to a reasonable amount and you'll have much success :)

Congrats on starting your diary. It's good to hear that you don't intend to keep skipping breakfast, as it is important to keep balanced! Portions is where it's at, and like mal said, the fitday.com accounts are lifesavers. Good luck on your goals!

Congrats on quitting smoking!! That is a huge feat in itself!

Do you mind my asking how you quit? I'm thinking of trying the Chantix soon.

I bet it is much easier for you to breath now.

Good luck on your weight loss. ;)

Hi Time2change

I quit using nicorette micro tabs but loads are using champix (its called that in England) and are having good results.

I also went to smoking cessation clinic and used a very good no smoking forum, well still do similar to this one.

Good luck with your quit and the forum i use for no smoking is.......

Sorry mods if im not supposed to put up this link please delete it.

Michael! :waving: from :eh:
I also want to congratulate you for quitting smoking! With that issue tackled, there really ISN'T anything you cannot do!

I think your WL goal sounds good. Glad you're going to make a regular habit of eating breakfast.

Have you posted any pics to help motivate yourself (and inspire others)? I have found the photos extremely motivational!

Best wishes on your journey.

Hi ya Abbagirl

I notice our start weights and targets are very similar going by your ticker (i like the tickers lots).I hope i can do as well as your doing and thanks for the best wishes.

ps i just had a thought maybe you could do a song about weight loss or this forum or both :drool5:

Hi Michael

Welcome to your diary. I put a note on your newcomer thread about half an hour ago.

I hope that today goes well. I am just out for a 6.3 mile walk.

Day2

Done my 30 minute walk again well 35 actually non stop and also walked after that stopping and starting while shopping.Ate breakfast today cornflakes and the usual later pasta jacket potato cottage cheese beans banana not all at once lol.Ate approximately 1600-2000 calories in total.

Even though this is only my second proper day i did start cutting down Sat gone on food 24/11/07 and weighed 14st 11lb BMI 31.4 so i decided to get weighed today.

Result i have lost 3lb so am now 14st 8lb and my BMI is down from 31.4 to 30.9 so its a great start although still a lot of work to do.

Thanks to all for reading and any comments they really do encourage me the same way reading this forum does.

way to go...

you're a good sneeze away from getting out of obesity and into overweight... Strangely that was big milestone for me...

That is my 1st goal Maleficent i was thinking about it today on my walk getting a BMI under 30 and as you rightly point out it is a big step.

Thanks for your reply im really determined to do this thanks to this forum it seems easier than i 1st thought but i wont get complacent

Hi Michael,

Well done for losing 3 pounds. :hurray: That is great.

Getting out of obesity is coming ever nearer for you - and I am sure that you realise after that Tonight program a few weeks ago that having a BMI under 30 can make a big difference to how long you would wait for surgery via the NHS. I know several people who needed operations and were told to come back when their BMI was under 30. In one case their condition was immediately life threatening. Scandalous!!!!

I am really looking forward to getting a BMI under 30 myself.

Keep up the good work. It is very worthwhile.

Take care:seeya:
Best wishes

Hi again Margaret

Your doing fantastic and your BMI will soon be under 30 its reading posts like yours and so many others that encourage me.So far i have been lucky weather wise it hasn't rained on my walk or even worse snowed or been icy.

Im determined though and i will be like you walk in all weathers.

Some of the storys on here are fascinating and so insperational.

Thanks again for your reply Margaret keep up the good work im only a novice in comparison.

Hi Michael

We all started as novices and we all lose an ounce at a time.

If we keep on encouraging each other we will all get to where we want to be.

Take care
Best wishes

Hi all again

Sorry i haven't updated my diary past few days but here goes.

I have ate much the same sort of stuff pasta/spaghetti/cottage cheese/toast/beans/banana's/cornflakes etc etc approximately 2,000 calories or just below per day.I have done my 30 minutes walk everday still, even done 1 in light rain and my 1st one in the dark tonight at least i seen all the xmas lights close up lol amazing how much more you see when not driving :smilielol5:.In fact a few have been nearer 40 minutes.

Im due to get weighed again on Fri or Sat so i will post the results and see how im doing if this is still working which it should be im sticking to this routine for as long as it takes.

Good luck to everbody on your WL and thanks for the continuing support on here it does make a difference.

Got weighed today and i am still the same weight as 6 days previous 14st 8lb was slightly disappointed i didn't lose any but i am not giving up in fact if anything i aim to try harder.Just wondered if this is normal on the 2nd week and also if any of you very knowledgable people on here might notice if im doing anything wrong.

Breakfast

Cornflakes

Lunch

Pasta in tomato sauce

Dinner

Jacket potato with beans and cottage cheese

Supper

Sandwich and a banana

This is my usual daily intake all reasonable portion sizes on top of this i have done a 30 minute non stop walk everyday on top of my usual walking during the day.
