MGB's Diary: "Clean Your Plate," they said.

Hi Sheryl! I'm Dee and I noticed your journal, so I thought I'd stop by. You're doing great, by the looks of things. Way to go!
Thanks for explaining the President's Challenge. This is the first I've heard of it. I'm Canadian, so I assume I can't take part. :( But good luck getting that bronze medal.

Hey Sheryl ... My exercise has been slacking

Thursday assignment to finish
Friday car in for service
Saturday Harry Potter till 4 am with no eating
And today I am just so tired from reading forever yesterday (does eye movement burn calories????)

You are doign soo well witht he challenge I am just going to Kick Ass at the gym tomorrow to try and catch up.

Sunnydee- Thank you so much for leaving a comment. I really do appreciate it. :) The President's Challenge has really motivated me to workout even more. (Not to the point of burning out .. just what's within my limits.)

Jenna- Eeeps! Is her latest book that good???? haha I hope you catch up on sleep this Sunday. haha Heaven knows, you're always so busy with school, the gym, and errands.

It's only 7:30pm and I'm so tired. I'm thinking it's that damn TOM. Damn you, TOM!!!!:flame: So while I was brisk walking around my neighborhood this morning, I decided why not spend the early afternoon enjoying a BBQ with my husband. I actually wanted to surprise him with a park date since he's been so busy with work. I created a list of items to buy (I always do this, because I'm an impulse shopper at times. It keeps me from wandering all over the grocery store. hahaa!) and made sure to cook healthy, yet delicious meals for the both of us. I got home, packed the car, and told him that we need to go for a ride to get something to eat. He said, "Are you sure? We can eat at home since I know you're working hard on losing weight." Awww.. he's too sweet. I told him to drive to the park near our house and explained to him we were going to have lunch there. He had a blank look on his face and I started to laugh. I hopped out of the car, opened the trunk, and showed him what I had been planning.

Prior to getting to the park, I had prepared all the meals for the grill. This was today's lunch menu: (homemade, because I can't stand ready made meals)

Sean's Meal- garlic mushrooms and swiss cheese burger (93% lean) with lettuce and tomato, rosemary diced red potatoes with onions drizzled with extra virgin olive oil (EVOO), and fresh sliced cantaloupe

My Meal- Sliced zucchini and summer squash with fresh garlic (salt and pepper), rosemary with fresh lemon and garlic chicken breast (6 oz), whole wheat rotini with green bell peppers, olives, red onions drizzled with (2 tbs) light italian dressing, and cantaloupe slices

It was a beautiful day and my husband and I really enjoyed ourselves. Oh and all of those meals were cooked using (Reynolds Non Stick Foil). I just wrapped the items separately to allow them to steam/ stew in their own juices while placed on the BBQ grill. It was DELICIOUS and it was QUICK to clean up. I love foil. hahaaaa!

Alrighty, here's the rundown for the day.

1 1/2c sliced steamed zucchini and summer squash

I may have a cup of low sugar hot cocoa with a tbs of ground flaxseed after my shower. I know that mix sounds really weird, but it's actually tasty. It gives it a nutty taste and well, the flax is added healthy fats (omega 3) and protein! woohoo!

Total Calories: 1590 (prior hot cocoa and flax)
President's Challenge Points Earned: 406
Note: Decided not to eat as much as I normally do since my workout wasn't as rigorous today.

Living in Binghamton, NY isn't what it's cracked up to be...

I woke up at my usual 5:15am to change into my workout clothes. I got downstairs, was welcomed by our kitty who decided to hair my pants, opened up all the windows, and realized it was pretty damn chilly. First thing's first, I delved into weight lifting. I'm proud of myself, I can now do 20 standard pushups. (started off with 3 sets of 15 reps doing modified pushups a month and a half ago) WOOT!

Outside suddenly grew dark and the rain began to fall. I usually LOVE rainy days, but today it made me feel depressed. I guess it just made me analyze myself and where I am in life. I've been now living in Binghamton, NY for the past 3 months and I have YET to meet people (more like make any friends). It's soooo difficult to do so here. In Hawaii, I can go anywhere and just meet people. Here, it seems people are too afraid to speak or they just hate people in general. Before leaving Hawaii, my baby sister (and best friend) used to live with me and my husband. We would sit and talk for hours about anything and everything. Damnitt.. I miss that. I miss my parents, my 2 other sisters and my beautiful niece and nephew. I miss being able to call my girlfriend, Mel, and telling her to come over to hangout. Bah.. I'm sure things will change once I get back in school. That is if Binghamton Uni get off their asses and finish up my paperwork! Grrr! Okay enough ranting and bullshitting. haha

Today's Workout:
- 30 mins weight training (10/ 15#)
- 40 mins Cardio Party #1
- 20 mins Turbo Jam
- 40 mins Advanced Bellydancing (They don't have Tahitian dance in NY it seems haha!)

Today's Meals:

Breakfast:
- 1 egg omelette with mushroom, spinach, bell peppers, part skim mozarella cheese and salsa
- 1/2c oatmeal with 1c halved strawberries (350 cal)

Snack:
- 1/2c Kashi Good Friends Cereal placed over a bowl of 2 kiwis (sliced), 1c blueberries and 1/2c 1% cottage cheese (350 cal)

Lunch:
- 3 slices fat free turkey breast with reduced fat mayo, 1c romaine lettuce (chopped), red onions and olives wrapped in a low carb, low fat tortilla
- 1c leftover homemade whole wheat pasta salad (lite italian dressing, green peppers, red onions, and olives) (430 cal)

Snack:
- Whole Grain English Muffin with 2tbs peanut butter and 1 tbs sugar free jam (300 cal)
Dinner:
- 1c refried beans with romaine lettuce, salsa, mozarella cheese, onions in a tortilla with a cup of 1% milk (530 cal)

Total Calories: 1,960 cals
President Challenge Points Earned: 1,102 pts

Wishing you all a wonderful night...

Hey Sheryl--

You're doing soo well... you want to come cook for me... all your meals sound sooo yummy and healthy:)

Plus another 1,100 points in the president's challenge... the bronze is almost in your grasp ;)

I'm sorry the rain made you depressed today... its hard moving to a new place... I've been in Boston for four years and havn't made friends... part of that is hating the college lifestyle and my self-esteem... but I totally understand feeling isolated :0/

~Jenna

Your meals are always so healthy and they sound so good.....with i liked to cook...but i prefer baking which is not so good!!!

Im sure once you start school you'll find some friends.... wish you were closer cause im in the same situation here. I have a lot of family but no friends. The friends i did have are single and on a completely different level.

stay strong

Wow, growing up in hawaii...I am SO jealous. You seem so fun, I think once you are out and about it will be easy for you to find friends.

P.S. I also think non-stick foil is a cook's best friend!

I've been now living in Binghamton, NY for the past 3 months and I have YET to meet people (more like make any friends). It's soooo difficult to do so here.
New york is like another planet. I spend an extended time in the city and well it was ummmm interesting. I never met any "bad" people there but everyone is always is such a hurry..........

Guess what? I joined the President's Challenge too! Turns out you don't have to be from the USA. Thanks for posting the link. :D

I think the problem with Binghamtom is that it's so darned cold 9 months out o the year, people are afraid to slow down and socialize as they might turn into popsicles :D

If you've got some free time, you might want to look into volunteering ( usually has lots of opportunities, both long term and day long) or finding a class that interests you :) It's so hard meeting people - i've moved 3 times in te past 3 years - it's tough :D

First off, I'd like to thank everyone for dropping in and giving me advice. It's helped me to feel better today big time! I'm going to make this quick, because I have a tired husband here that I need to help gather up his stuff for work tomorrow. haha

(420 cal)

Dinner:
1c mashed potatoes (made with 1% milk and promise)

Total Calories: 2,095 calories
President's Challenge Points Earned: 885

Note to self: Stayed within my range of calories, burned 1000+ calories via cardio... didn't make 2 good choices (mashed potatoes and cookies), but from now on will put those calories toward something a bit more filling and healthy. Learn from my mistake and move on.

Hi Sheryl,
Love the positive attitude with regards to the small digression!
I have found so many of my 'diets' failed because I'd have one slip up and thought I'd ruined everything so stop!
But I am an all or nothing person unfortunately
This means that even if I have small lee ways I take them to the extreme for instance... most people 1-2 biscuits with a cup of coffee...Sara the whole pack...Most people a slice of toast...Sara the whole loaf, with no time wasted toasting it or adding spread!....most people at buffet breakfasts stop eating when full....Sara stops eating when the food runs out in the buffet or they kick her out! Get the picture! I don't seem to have that full sensation the same as others...I wonder why that is? Maybe they have done research into it! I think the finish the plate club didn't help that, it over rode the full sensation thing. Well thats my opinion!
Hey Sheryl, have you visited 'Emmaroos' diary? She is a 16 year old girl from the uk. She is counting calories the same as you, and I thought you may have some tips for her. Drop in on her, she could do with some support.
I remember how hard it was being a big teenager, but she is doing something about it, unlike me! Well I tried but does the banana and rice diet or beetroot diet count as sensible eating? Haha
well must fly...I have a date! Catch you soon, keep up the exercise...I will check out the Presidents challenge but Cohens is not a fan of too much exercise. I do 2 gym sessions a week, ride my bike and play tennis and lacrosse. And that isnt really acceptable! But I cant do without exercise, I feel miserable without it.
See you!
Sara

Hi Sheryl!

I haven't been posting here much this week...came back to Monday with a bad sore throat and too much work piled up on my desk.

Glad you have such a good attitude about your plan. You are right to evaluate how you are doing with food choices and promise to make better choices in place of the poor ones! I try to look at my day from a positive spin, (when I have kind of blown it in some areas) and make sure I stay focused on all the good things I did for my health. It helps keep me motivated to continue on the right track!

Have a great day!

Beth

- 1 serving whole wheat pasta with homemade tomato sauce (canned whole tomatoes with basil (chopped), bell peppers, onions, spinach, mushroom) with chicken breast with part skim mozarella cheese (540 cal)

Total Calories: 2240 cal (1990-2340 calories)
President's Challenge Points Earned: 860 pts

Wishing you a wonderful evening, everyone. Once again, thank you for dropping in. I'll make sure to post a bit more, Rena... don't worry. :D

-Sheryl

You are such a pro.....i still cant count calories for shit...lol I guesstimate

what is turbo jam?

hope your headache gets better.

Rena

Even though you are married, it had to at least feel good that he thought you were attractive! (I get hit on at the grocery store...always by men older than my dad...creepy!)

The ghetto banana burrito sounds pretty good, actually.

Nah not a pro... just have read a bunch of crap. You know, trying to get my "read on." hahaaa! I pretty much look at all the nutrition labels in everything I buy. I pay attention to calories, how much per serving (lc, 1 tb, etc), sugars, dietary fiber, fat, and SODIUM. These big "health food" corporations are pretty sneaky with their "no trans fat," "non fat" foods yet they are LOADED with sugar and sodium. Awesome two things that will make my ass blow up into a hot air balloon. If you're having a difficult time with logging in calories, try using Their calorie counter program is awesome! I've been using it and LOVE it. No more estimating. Then again, that's where measuring cups and measuring spoons come in handy as well. After a while, you'll realize what a cup looks like, etc and you won't have to rely too much on them. :)

Turbo Jam is a workout created by Chalene Johnson. It's more like kickboxing meets dancing. I love the stuff. I've lost more belly fat from doing her workouts then anything else I've tried. just look up Turbo Jam. If anything, hop on ebay and buy a dvd (for much cheaper than going to the website) just to get a taste of what the program is about.

.

Oh don't get me wrong, Amba... I walked out of the office, hopped into my car, looked at myself in my rear view mirror and said, "Oh yah, bitch.. you still got it." hahaaaa! Whenever I feel the need for motivation, I just look at the work card he wrote his cellphone number down and the words "Maybe a beer?" He claimed it was "roadside assistance." I have to admit.. that was pretty funny. My husband got a kick out of it. To the point he wanted to go down there to shake the guy's hand for being so damn smooth. Weird. LOL

As for the older men hitting on you... awwwww, I'm sorry, Amba. haha! Actually that is creepy, because you look really young as it is! LMAO! :hug2:

I'm off to workout for a bit. Will post everything later in the day. :)
