Marie's Diary

Hi I am 19 and just found out that I have Hypothyroidism. This makes me gain weight. I am currently at 143. I want to be down to 120. I have tried to keep my own diary but it does not seem to work so I figured I would try it on here and be more motivated to keep up with it and make better decisions about what I eat and drink. I work in a Cancer office and we get catered food every day of the week, so it is really hard not to eat everything that they bring but i am going to try really hard. I weigh in every week, but i think i am going to start on a daily basis. :newbie:

Hi and welcome. I think you will definitely have to try to avoid the catered food. Also, if you are going to weigh yourself every day, perhaps only "count" the low weight of each week. Then, as the weeks go by, just make sure you continue to see new lows. That way, you won't get too upset about a bad weigh in one day.

Good luck with your goals!

Welcome, Marie, and good luck!

Are you taking medication for your hypothyroidism? That should help you with the weight loss.

Thank you both for the comments!! I will just keep the low weight and go from there. I am taking medicine for my hypothryoidism. I have been on it for about 2.5 weeks, so hopefully it will help me lose weight because before I was unable to lose anything no matter how hard I tried.

I have packed a lunch today so that I can stay away from the unhealthy catered food. I had one cup of coffee this morning and now drinking water. Hopefully i can stick to that. I do not have trouble turning down sodas but i have trouble turning down my sweet tea, and when we get lunch here that is what they bring.:drool5:

Last night I went to the park and ran around the track. I ran 2 laps which is a half of a mile, and I walked 5. ( 4 laps = 1 mile ). I plan to go to the gym today after work and do some cardio and then tonight go back to the track and run or walk a little more.

Today at lunch I was talking to a lady I work with and she said that she is doing the South Beach diet. For the first 2 weeks you can't eat any carbs. She has been doing just that for 3 days and has already lost 5 lbs. I think I am going to give that a try.

Was not able to go running yesterday it rained pretty bad. So I stayed home and cleaned really good for about an hour. I plan to start cutting out my carbs today and go running if it is not raining again today.

I have not done so good keeping up with everything. :( This morning I weighed and was 143.6. I went running yesterday. I ran half a mile and walked a mile and a half. I plan to go again tonight. My goal is to lose 3lbs by next friday.

marie,
Do not get discouraged...and don't try to set unrealistic goals for yourself and try to lose the weight too fast. A realistic rate of loss is 1% per week, which for you would be about 1.4 pounds, or round to a pound and a half. 3 pounds in one week is a lot for someone of your size.

Remember, the slower you lose, the more likely you will be successful in keeping the weight off! Just keep up with the exercise and eating right and you will lose. I would just hate for you to set goals for yourself that are too high, and then, when you fail to meet them, you will become discouraged.

Good luck...you can do it!!!

Thank You, I have dropped my goal. But this past weekend I had a four wheeler accident and hurt my foot. Still waiting on the xray results to see what is wrong with it. I should get them tomorrow, hopefully. I cannot walk on it so I will not be able to run for a little while, but I will be able to work out my arms and abs that way i can still sweat a little bit instead of doing nothing. I am ready to find out what is wrong, because I really enjoy running so I am not going to like not being able to run.
