Many questions... Advice?

Hey everyone, i'm feeling less motivated today. But a little boxing session later on will make me feel a bit better about myself.

Anyway... i've got a few things on my mind at the minute. My diet is okay but when I wake up on a morning I normally feel quite bloated, I guess thats why i'm feeling like this on this particular morning. What can I do to stop myself feeling bloated on a morning? Cut out any particular types of food? Eat before a specific time? Also, when I do have a treat I have a small bar of dark chocolate as it's a lot better than milk chocolate. Should I cut out treats all together? Will that benefit me more?

I want to lose weight by diet and exercise but what kinds of food should I cut out and what types of food shall I eat? I want to go food shopping soon and I need ideas on what are the best healthy food options.

Oh yeah I see that many of you have a progress scale on your profiles and stuff. How do I get one? They will keep me motivated more and they seem pretty cool. :)

And when I see some progress on myself i'll post pictures and I need your honest opinions. (please don't be too harsh lol)

Advice is much appreciated. :)

Have you read the stickies? Your questions would lead me to believe you haven't.

Bloat can be caused by many, many things. One such thing could certainly be food intolerances. Some, for instance, are more resistant to carbs/insulin than others and when that's the case, bloating after a high carb meal is common.

Hi Jessica,

I agree with Steve - read the sticky posts in the forums. There's *so much* good information there and it'll answer questions that you didn't even realize you had! :)

As for bloat, I can tell you that over the last couple of years, since I've started eating healthier, I'm *very* sensitive to salt and sodium content. If I eat too much sodium/salt, I will wake up the next morning and my fingers will be puffy (to the point that I can feel it when I make a fist), my tummy will be bloated, and my face will be puffy. I have actually held on to up to 5lb of water weight and bloat from a day of eating potato chips and hamburgers and other salty stuff. And the reason I know it's water weight and not fat is that 2 days of drinking a lot of water and cutting back on my salt makes me drop those 5lbs.

As Steve also mentioned, some people have carb issued or gluten issues. I have a friend who can look pregnant, her tummy bloats out so much if she overdoes the carbs.

My suggestion would be to start cutting back on processed foods first - packaged stuff, stuff with artificial ingredients, stuff with sugars and HFCS, and stuff with high sodium counts. Then just experiment ... maybe one night don't eat carbs at night and see how you feel in the morning. Or don't eat dairy at night and see how you feel in the morning. Really it's just about trial and error and figuring out what works for you.
