Maintaining Weight Gain

This question is for successful hard gainers that have managed to increase their lean bulk. I am wondering how hard it is to maintain your lean weight gain. Do you have to keep the exact same diet and exercise, or can you change either?

Be sure to decrease your calories slowly after your bulk, adjusting them by 300-500 a day for 1 week at a time. Monitor your weight, and increase your activity level. If you diet too drastically you will lose a good deal of your gains if the muscle is not mature yet. Everyone is different in this regard, but this has what has worked for me. It takes a lot of tweaking and learning what works for you personally to gain mass and stay lean while doing it, then keeping it is a whole other process.

You also need to continue exercising. Use it or lose it, is a true statement. I had worked my way up to 185 lbs from 165 and had 8% BF. When I stopped exercising and eating the extra calories, I dropped to 175 pretty quickly. I then maintained 175 but I gradually started losing muscle and gaining fat, so I wasn't a 'good' 175 lbs, I was 165 lbs with 10 lbs of 'insulation' around my middle.
