Madrone's Journal

Thursday

The past couple of days have been interesting. On Tuesday, I had a good, old-fashioned pizza binge. Not as large a binge as in the past, but the kind of binge where I was inhaling pizza while I drove and did not remember getting from point a to point b. I ate until I felt ill.

On the bright side, it didn't take nearly as much to make me feel ill as it used to!

Drawing a sense of determination from that, when I went out to Applebee's with my mom for lunch yesterday, I ate what I wanted but had smaller portions, left some on my plate and brought half of my 7 oz steak home to make steak fajitas for my nephew.

I just knew the scale would show me gaining today (I haven't weighed in several days), but I had actually lost half a pound. I even weighed twice to make sure I wasn't off. So that is encouraging. A little binge doesn't have to be the end of everything.

Saturday

Today was, well 600 calories over budget. I knew it was happening, but didn't have the willpower to contain it!

I had a day of testing today - my last teacher certification exam - which pulled me out of bed at 5:30 and didn't end unitl 3:30 when I returned home. We had no more than 15 minutes between tests, and not much access (that i knew of) within walking distance for healthy choices. I had brought cheese and whole-grain crackers for a snack, but had to leave it in my car (rules of testing!) and made it back early on for a quick bite.

By the time my test was over, I was ravenous and made a b-line for Chick-fil-a, my true fast food weakness. On the bright side, the fried food made me feel ill, so I'm not very eager to repeat the experience!

I laugh at myself

Bwahahahah.

It is a mirthless laugh! Yesterday was a tast of a semi-normal schedule coming out of summer break. We had meetings that lasted similarly to a regular school day and I had errands afterward. I didn't plan ahead and didn't take anything for lunch. Stubborn? Me?

All things considered, it wasn't terrilbe, but I'll chalk it up to a learning experience and do better on the 11th when we officially go back. Things i need to have at the ready:

Ice packs for my lunchbox - check
Water mug for school - check
healthy snacks -
plan for lunches (salads w/meat or cheese and healthy leftovers - check)
crunchy snacks - very important - check
Breakfast before I leave -
Water for school -

I know that I MUST eat breakfast and that I MUST have small snacks throughout the day, or I will guarantee a binge after school. Just happens. So I need to control it on my terms. I also need to keep journaling and tracking my food intake.

*Sigh*

I'm guessing that you don't have refrigeration at school, that's why the ice packs. On thing that I've done is take the small water bottles and freeze them and use that as ice packs. As they melt you have your drinking water. Just don't fill them all the way and lay them on an angle in the freezer.

Also, cottage cheese is a great snack. I get the single serving size or I'll eat two or three servings. Then I'll add honey or walnuts and honey. Makes a great snack.
