Mad Madge stops munchin' bad things

Well, here goes. I am starting to pay the price of my life style in the 1960's. Platform shoes and PVC boots may have been the fashion back then but poor old Madge is in sensible shoes now and high heels are just a memory. My hips, knees and ankles are getting painful and I have to sit on the side of the bed in the mornings and wait to find out which joint is going to protest the most.
I love to cook, so will adapt as many recipes as I can to low fat, low carb low sugar. I need to lose at least 4 stones but don't want it to drop off me too quickly. I've done that in the past when I was young and yes, it was a smashing feeling but now I am 64 I think it would be sensible to take it off a bit at a time, exercise more and generally get myself all round healthier. I'd love to buy a bike, but it is early days yet and if I got on one now I'd have to be lifted off because I had seized up. But it is my goal to be riding one this time next year

Welcome Madge! A slow and steady loss is the only way to go. I think walking would be a great way to work towards biking. I look forward to seeing your progress.

Caught the bus and got off 2 miles from the city centre and walked in. I usually take the car. Had a coffee did a bit of shopping and then listened to my shell shocked and complaining joints and rang my husband to pick me up. I felt as if I could have walked home, but thought it would be a bit silly bearing in mind that I rarely walk these days

Don't do too much too soon. Build up slowly. We don't get out of shape overnight and we don't get back in shape overnight either. And welcome! Congrats on your decision to improve!

You never said a truer word Brawny, and thank you for the welcome. I had a long hot bath last night with some marjoram essential
oil and so I'm not half as creaky as I thought I would be.
I've just finished the ironing in the cool of the morning because it is getting pretty warm over here and this afternoon I'm settling in front of the TV to watch wimbledon

Welcome welcome, MM!! Congratulations on deciding to be healthy. I love walking. It is so therapeutic. And working towards biking sounds amazing too. Get lots of podcasts so they keep you company.

What's a pod cast love? They didn't have pocket calculators when I was in school. Now don't laugh everyone, but I love audio books. I put each one on a separate MP3 player because I can't find them on the same player. That way I know where I am, and can garden quite happily, listening to my book

Hello Maria. Thanks for stopping by. I think I have caught my husband's cold, so I'm not looking at it as a problem but as an opportunity. If I don't feel 100% then i won't feel so hungry will I? How are you doing?

:D Lucky you, when I´m under the weather I eat everything that doesn´t move quickly enough! Good thing I´m not attractive for viruses. Get well soon.

I wonder how many calories house work burns up? I have just cleaned the bathroom, run a hoover over the bedrooms, hoovered the stairs and hall. I will, after a coffee, start downstairs.... Gym.... I don't think so, I'm sweating like a bull. Oh, just remembered what my mother taught me: Horses sweat, gentlemen perspire and ladies glow. I'm glowing like a bull

Hello Madge! Congratulations with your weight loss of the first week! Good job! I am not sure how many calories you spend for cleaning the house, but i think a lot enough;-) Have a nice day and good luck to you! Keep going;-)

By heck Ginger if that's you in your avatar you've got nothing to worry about love

There's a quotation isn't there... "Pride goeth before a fall" I've been so blooming smug this week, haven't even thought about cheating, that I have a feeling I'm "gowething" towards that fall!

What fun is falling? Better think of something else that makes you feel really happy - without the calories. Or just write down all the helpfull things you did this week and give yourself credit for them to reinforce that it´s not just a stroke of luck that you´re doing so well but something you worked towards and therefore deserve. Or... I´m sure you can come up with better stuff that suits you personally.

Well, summer is certainly here in my little corner of England. The lettuce is popping up in the garden quicker than we can eat it, and we can't give it away because we are all in the same boat. That's not all, the tomato plants look like triffids.
Our water butts are completely empty so if we don't get an appreciable amount of rain soon, we shall be pumping out the bath water for watering the garden like we had to do last year.

You're gonna cause another hosepipe ban! It's warm in this corner too today (northwest) but we had a little downpour last night so it's not too bad.
