Machine / Free Weight

Alright so i''v been working out for ruffly 3 months now and I use machines. SHould I switch to free weights now and if so why ? I'v just always found free weights a little on the awkward side plus its like theres ALOT to learn about thiem =P.

what free weights do as opposed to machines will work your stabilizer muscles, from that you won't get noticably bigger but you will have what I call "real world strenght", like if you were to lift a table over your head in real life, you would need thoes stabilizer muscles so you don't fall over and your able to control large objects. IE: you might notice on a machine you can squat 350IBS but when you do free weight squat it might only be around 290IBS cause your about to fall over or whatever, well thats a common problem for people who use machines to start with and then never switch over the free weights. does that make sence?
This is one of the main reasions for free weights.

Personally, use freeweights whenever possible. The stabilizers are very important. They are a little awkward at first, but you will get used to lifting them over time, it's all about form. Besides, we look cooler lifting a big-ass-bar-full-o-weights compared to a machine.

im realy into bench presses... should i invest in one for home because i dont get to use it as often as i would like and ive been getting most of my strength from using a machine...?
