Lowie's Dream becoming a REALITY

hi guys,

i have posted a few times on here before but lost track and got lazy all over again. Im 18 turning 19 in a few months. Im weighing in at 18 stone (115kgs) and its gone too far, Im very ashamed of myself and quite dissapointed i have let it get this far, im not sure what to write at the moment, just a big feeling of being sad and low is coming over. I deeply want to be healthier, i want to lose this weight, and start living how a normal 18 should be living, i want to go out there and do what ever it is i want, i want to surf and go rock climbing, and pick up the ladies, and goto the beach unashamed and have the energy to get through the day. i want to feel like im worth something again. i need help.

i dont like to ask for help, usually because i think im big n strong enough on my own, i have always done things on my own, and kept to my self for most of my life, but after so long of doing that, when i look deep down, its just made me very lonely, and given me a feeling that nothing really matters too much.

now i dont want this to sound all sad n soppy, because this should be a celebration of a new begining, i only hope that i can stick to is this time, because maybe.... maybe there wont be another time.

i know i can lose weight, hell i have even done it a few years ago, i lost 15kgs but after a year it was all back on again and even more, i guess that kind of discouraged me putting it back on, but back then i had a real spark to do it, a real motivation to improve myself, i just dont know where that spark has gone.

sorry for such a long starting post.

But to anyone who has spent even a second reading this, i really want to thank you.

i want to change

welcome to your diary... if you want this badly enough- and your plan isn't one that deprives you - you will be able to stick to this.. don't think of it as a diet, but as a lifestyle change...

good luck and have fun while you're here

Hi sweetheart, good for you for coming here and giving it a shot! I only wish I had some idea of your weight, but stones and KG mean very little to me as an american. But apparently you're up there and you want to come down, and you CAN come down. Mal is a very good example of that so perhaps you'll check in with her diary and see what she's doing. Apparently she walks a lot and that might be a great place to start for you. It really DOES need to be thought of as a lifestyle change and lots of planning is key to get things going. Planning what you'll be eating and when you'll be exercising. Make a plan now for what you'll eat for the next few days and see that you have those healthy foods handy. Best of luck to you :)!

hey guys,

thanks for your replies.

i just did a conversion of my weight into pounds so you yankies can get an idea of my weight :D and i come in at 253 lbs, which is fairly big for a guy. that looks alot bigger than 115kgs lol.

well it starts today, i only just woke up not long ago, and for breakfast i had 2 eggs on 2 sliced of wholegrain toast, with some baby spinach and some chilli flakes and a glass of water, and to be honest im feeling a little hungry still, but i know i will get used to cutting back a little bit, i guess i have to let my stomach adjust. i will just drink more water i guess.

anyways i will post back tonight about how my day went.

thanks again, i guess it isnt too easy for a guy to go out searching for help, but im glad i am :)

thanks again

Lowie, thanks for translating to pounds. How tall are you in feet??? I bet that stumped ya huh?? That sounds like a great breakfast. How about planning on eating a small meal every few hours or if you were still hungry I would have had a nice glass of skim milk. Maybe 2 hours after you ate breakfast or lunch you have some fruit and a SMALL piece of cheese or glass of nonfat milk or other source of fat and protein to keep you full. It really does take a lot of planning and I admit I myself am not always optimally planned out. Do you have your mom or someone else in your family helping you with planning and buying the food for your meals? Its OK to ask for help! And if I was your family I would be ecstatic that you were trying to get healthy and would give you any help I could.

hi Blancita

thanks for ur reply,

as for how tall i am i am 6' 3"
and also sorry for the late reply, i have just been exhausted the past couple of days with studies and job hunting! -.-

as for my food, its been going pretty well, allthough i must admit i did have a couple pancakes last night, but i have been trying to eat in small regular meals, every 2-3 hours, and having a glass of water with everymeal.

i havn't started on the excercise part yet, but it will come very soon.

and i live with my nan so pretty much what ever foods i ask for is what she buys,

and ideas of foods i could tell her for next time we go shopping??

anyhow thanks again :)

Hmmm. I have a lost of some foods that I love to buy just to keep handy:

-low-fat granola(yum)
-nonfat yogurt
-strawberries
-watermelon
-bananas(excellent snack!)
-whole wheat crackers(make sure you don't get the kind with hydrogenated oills or gross stuff)
-always fresh fruit
-snow/sugar peas
-oatmeal
-oat cakes
-dried fruit

thanks for the tips Daine,

i will be sure to look out for those this week!

as for excercise, say i wake up early in the morning and want to go for a walk/jog should i eat before i excercise, or after?, well i guess im asking this with all excercise really.

oh and i have a job interview tonight at 6pm at the Pancake parlour!! lol, this job will be a real test of willpower i think hehe

Hey Lowie! 6'3?? That is hot! My prior 4 long-term boyfriends, and H, are all 6'3", that really is my personal magic number..and I'm only 5'2"! Ha ha. The pancakes are OK if you can fit them into your daily calories. Any idea how many calories you're planning on consuming in a day? Having a rough idea or how many cals you want to have to still lose may help, though just cutting back portions and substituting for healthy options could work just as well at first. Nans are so great and they will just feed us anything we want, eh? That is a perfect resource! How about asking her to make lots of roasted or grilled chicken, and dont eat the skin of course, along with a side of veggies (yuck I admit, but if nan will make em I'd probably get them down), and just a SMALL side of starch, if any starch at all. Best of luck on your job interview!!

hehe, wow that really is wierd hehe,

ummm to be honest im not totally sure of how many calories per day i should be eating, but im tryin to stick to healthy foods, can anyone suggest roughly how many i should be aiming at? i know it is different for everyone, but what are the averages??

as for my interview, i had to fill in an application form, and do an aptitude test! :O but its ok, i breased through the test! there were 3 ppl in there before me, and i was the first one finished and interviewed! that should have given them a good impression. soo now im waiting for them to get back to me..

im going to go for a long walk tomorrow after school, at least 30-45mins, will have to make sure my ipod is charged!

hmmm and what to have for breakfast, might have some oats and an apple, with a glass of water mmmm, well i best get to bed! i have to get up in 7 hours lol..

thanks again Blancita

night all xx

Hey. Just checking in to see how you're doing...Now that you've been doing this a good week or more, how do you feel?

Oh, and thanks for the support. I followed your advice...:)

hey there,

yea im feelin pretty good actually, im not gunna weigh myself for a few more weeks, but im starting martial arts again tomorrow, and im off to do some kickboxing tonight, and i have been eating fairly well. like today for example me and a friend went out for lunch, and she went and got hungry jacks, like a medium whopper meal or sumthin, but i had no hesitation to go and get my self a cajun chicken foccacia from the sandwich store, and a bottle of water, i am a bit surprised that i passed up junk food so easily!

anyhow i gotta heap of homework to catch up on lol.

ciao for now

hello again.

well i have great news, i am now a martial artist again! woop. i signed up last night to get back into it, i previously did karate when i was youger (about 5-6 yrs ago) when i was about 12ish, and i had been doing it for about 3 years back then, i am excited to get back into it. Its really going to improve my life, they focus on becoming a better, healthier person more than anything, and the self defence part comes second.

i was having a talk to one of the instructors last night, and he said something that was very true. I have been constantly saying that i need someone to motivate me to do something! but he told me, "No one here is going to motivate you, they will inspire you, but the motivation comes from within, no one can make you do anything, we can push you and push you, but it is you who has to step through the door, we are simply tools to help you better yourself, and when you reach your black belt i will be saying thankyou to you, because we didnt give you that belt, you worked for it, and you earned it, we simply gave you the knowledge and tools to do so"

this hit right at home, i was always looking for an exterior source for motivation, when really there is none! it comes from me, people outside of me are there for inspiration and support

Not long ago i was at the karate center when they had a guest speaker, some of you may know him, Stan "The Man" Longinidis, 8 times australian world heavy wieght kickboxing champion. he was telling us about his life and how he got to where he is today. And he said pretty much the same thing, it was HE who wanted it so bad, no one else could tell him otherwise, before he started professional fighting, he had in his head that he is a champion, and i guess we are all champions for wanting to better ourselfs. One of his quotes is "If you fail to prepare, Prepare to fail" I think that makes perfect sence, i have many times set off on something without planning, and in a few weeks-months, it fails.

well i cant wait to do class tonight! and after class i am doing kickboxing aswell. i cant wait for my results in a few months, people will not recognise me, for my looks, AND my attitude. its all changing for the good.

thanks for you inspiration and support thus far guys/gals. :)

YAY for you lowie. that's awesome. ive always wanted to do martial arts, but i have not time for that. ah well, running is nice as well.guess what? tomorrow's my last day of exams!

thanks daine, i have been wanting to get back into it for a long time also,

horray for ur exams almost over!! :D i still got a few weeks b4 i have some tests to do.

hope you go well on ur exams,

oooooo 4 hours left until class :D

well, it is now 10:30pm and i just got home about 30 mins ago!

tonight was fantastic! i had an awesome martial arts class, we did some good muscle and cardio strengthening, and we went over some armbar techniques. and after that i did an hour long kickboxing class, boy does the kickboxing take it out of you!

so im feeling very sore, i can barely lift my arms, but its all good, i know the pain is a sign of improvement, and i am only going to get better from it,

i am expected to do a minumum of 2 karate classes a week, and tomorrow is going to be my 3rd in 3 days! lol im so pumped..

AND... i have applied for a Sign Writing Apprenticeship today, and i am going to call them tomorrow to make sure they recieved my application. i am very excited!

so all up in the upcoming future, i am going to be working out 5 days a week!

Monday= Karate
Tuesday= Karate + Kickboxing
Wednesday= Break
Thursday= Karate + Kickboxing
Friday= Karate
Saturday = Tae Bo
Sunday = Break

i am going to be a MACHINE in no time!

ahhh i cant get rid of the smile on my face hehe :D

Hi Lowie :).

Glad to hear you're getting into the martial arts class. That sounds like a good work out and a way to learn discipline.

Good for you about passing up the junk food and getting the healthy sandwich and water instead. It'll be so worth it in the end, and you may just lose your taste for junk food altogether. Now wouldn't that be nice (for all of us :).

As far as the number of calories needed, there are lots of calculators online that will give you a rough estimate, and TomO has this really down pat so I would visit his diary and ask him. I think its good to have a rough idea of how many calories you can have so you dont go too far below or above that range. That'll help you keep the weight off as well. Just loosely adding up in your head how many cals you're consuming is probably good enough for you, though there are programs online, like fitday .com where you can log your foods and stuff and where you learn how many calories various foods have (that has the benefit of giving you that reality check about things you like to eat but may not be worth the calories).
