Lower Back weight problem

Hi everyone, i'm new in these forums.I would like to ask help for an injury of mine.Recently i hurt my lower back while playing basketball,i jumped for the rebound and when i landed i felt this sharp pain and i couldn't walk without crouching.I went to a doctor and he said it's because of my weight and i need to lose weight through exercising. But my back hurts so much that i can't do any kind of exercise.I'm 16 years old,173.cm,85.kg.Any sugestions would be very helpful. Thanks in advance.:)

Docs can be a pain i the ass some times. it could be a slipped disk, where the compression of the spine has caused one of your "shock absorbers" to pop, or split slightly. This would be very painful, so it could be something else, but always eliminate worst case scenario 1st.

This was not due to your weight but how you landed. Still.. its always a good thing to maintain a healthy weight, but get your back sorted 1st.

I guess it depends on your body fat % but your BMI is only 28.4 so I doubt it's a weight problem that caused your back injury. I'm pretty skinny and I know my BMI is over 27, if any doctor called me fat I'd give him a slap (joke)

How long has your back been hurting?
Does the pain run down one of your legs?
Is the pain constant or just when you move in certain directions?

I've had a history of back problems, my doctor was actually pretty good (although I didn't think so at the time), he told me that I was just lazy and all the pain was being caused by over stressed muscles.

My girlfriend wasn't so fortunate, she had a herniated disk, this is where the disk pops out briefly and pops back in again, it causes damage and needs a lot of rest followed by light exercise to build up surrounding muscles.

If the disk stayed out of place then it's a slipped disk and you would be having trouble even walking. If the pain is bad then get a second opinion asap as the long this goes on untreated the worse it'll get

First of all thanks for the feedback. It's been about a month since the accident.I'll definently get a second opinion from another doctor,in fact i should have gone earlier to another doctor. My legs don't hurt, sometimes the pain switches from left to right, could that mean something?(and yeah doctors can be a pain in the ass sometimes:) )

I forgot to mention that it hurts the most when i get up from sitting or lying down. Also hurts when i bend my knees towards the floor(as in a squat)

Is there a cure?

gosh, i think i am also suffering from herniated disk. previously when i injured my back the orthopaedic surgeon said it has something to do with my lumbar muscle. My back hurts so much that my body bend towards the left side. I can see my flabby left waist moon shaped but my right waist is straighten. My navel seems out of placed. Sitting really hurts so much that i have to lie straight on the bed. But usually after 4 days of neurobion and rest, my back problem is gone. I usually trigger this backache which feels like a mild slip disk, whenever i bend in an awkward position to do something instead of squatting or after carrying a heavy luggage with my right hand only. Although I have exercised a lot to strengthen my lumbar muscles but it does not prevent this injury from happening again.
I guess I have to live with it. When it's too bad, I go for traction. :(

I asked about whether the pain goes down your leg because that's the sign of a Sciatica. As that doesn't seem to be the case I'd bet money you herniated a disk, I think the main treatment is a lot of rest but get a doctor to talk you through what you need to do asap as I'm pretty sure you're not allowed to sit down for quite a while if that is the case, you either need to stand or lie down

Of course if you have an office job you're be written off sick :)
