Lower Back Pain In Ab Excersizes

Now i know sit ups arent the best for building abs and all but doing sit ups really hurts my lower back, my lower back will give out before my abs are even sore. Can one really have that bad of form doing situps or ANYTHING that requires me to use my abs.

well, first of all, why are you trying to do ab exercises?

secondly, what does the rest of your workout look like?

squats, deadlifts.. planks build ab stabilization. Remember, the abs number one task is to stabilize the body, not move. While doing squats, deads or planks you train the stabilization, which is what you need in daily life.

Now if you care mostly about looks, its another story, but situps still aint all that good. Weighted crunches perhapps. Do you rise your lowerback from the floor when doing a situp? like going ALL the way up? you shouldnt do that.

well, basicly to get a 6 pack you need to get rid of the fat covering your abs. ofcource, if you are very skinny and scrawny, chanses are you dont have big enough abs to get an impressive 6pack, so you need to bulk and build your abs along with the rest of your body. Just do squats and deads and such and throw in some weighted crunches. Keep the reps per set under 15

yeah, but like you said, they hurt your back. If you are going all the way up, you should stop. Just lift your shoulders and some of the upper back off the ground with using your abs.

Lay flat on the mat and put your legs up on a bench so that the hip and knee is in 90degree angle, this will make it easier on your lower back

okay thanks guys, i havent really gotten a routine going yet but this is just from years of gym and hockey doing crunches, v sits, leg raises and other core excercises
