Lose Weight or Die Soon

Welcome back, I felt I had seen your avatar somewhere and I think I saw it in the before and after threads!
I like your mantra, mine is "Don't be shit, be amazing!" can be used for all and any situation really!
Have a great end of the week, Camy

Hi Camy,

Thanks for dropping by!

Today was pretty good, breakfast was oatmeal and fruit, lunch was Chicken and steamed broccoli and some yummy bing cherries. So eating is on target.

Took my walk and felt good. BP this morning was 121/78 which is terrific. So I am happy! That's as low as it has been in years!

Man, it is miserably hot outside! So I check my indoor honey-do list indexed for days when loving wife and child will be absent and painting the guest room pops right up. So that is the job for today (and tomorrow).

But first I took a 5-mile walk at 5:30 AM. It took me until 7:00. Breakfast was oatmeal and fruit, lunch is hummus sandwich with tomatos onion and whatever else was in the veggie drawer. So far good food.

The observent viewer will no doubt notice that I lost an additional 2 lbs. Of course it is mostly fluid loss but it does my heart good (literally) to see the reduction. I have been eating around 2000 calories (or a bit less) most every day. Since a good bit of that is fruit and veggies it is a lot of food and most days I'm not hungry at all.

But boy is it ever expensive! I'm spending 50 - 75 bucks every week just in fruit!

But Chemotherapy and bypass surgery are pricey too, so I guess on the balance it's worth it.

BP was 134/78!

David - you are doing awesome. Congrats on the loss. It does do the heart good to see than number move down, no matter why it's moving.

Great job on that walk and you eating sounds right where it should be. Keep up the good work.

Yesterday was the usual day at the in laws. Managed a nice walk in the early AM and a half hour of gentle swimming in the afternoon.

Food was okay, dinner was swordfish on the grill and beef kabobs, I was in control of my eating and didn't over-do it. My daily caloric intake was 2125, so well below maintenance but above my 1800 - 2000 target.

Monday is my rest day so no walking or anything.

This morning my BP was 128/78 so the changes made so far seem to be having an effect.

Have a great Monday everybody.

David

Yesterday was a rest day, which is good because I really needed it. I still had a hard time getting out of bed this AM. Today I had to pick up our Sales Manager at the Airport which was one of those secret food trips I used to enjoy. I'd leave the house at 8:00 and be at the airport (BDL) by 9:00 and sit in the Starbucks and have a big coffee and a plate of their mini lemon scones...

So now I just skip the scones and get a small coffee... sigh.

I guess when it comes right down to it I built lots of these little mini feeding frenzies into my life. Secret eating. One of the reasons I am here. It's just interesting to think of how much of that type of thing I have done mindlessly in the past.

But, for today, I took a walk, weighed in at 269.5 and my BP was 131/78 so all is good.

Onward!

David

changing behaviors is a good thing... (and one of those little scone thingies wouldn't have killed you... 3 yes... you dont' want to totally deprive yourself just make sure that you really want it -and aren't just having it becuase there's nothing better to do ...

One wouldn't kill me no... but it always starts with one and then before you know it I'm blanking out for two or three days, waking up face down in a pile of empty Haagen Daaz containers in some back alley.

I have a moderatly hard time with moderation in all things.

One day I hope to conquer this and be able to "eat just one" but that day is not this day!

Wow... I think your progress so far is fantastic! Seeing how far you have brought the numbers down on your blood pressure... good for you! I hope you can keep it up and get it down to acceptable levels so you don't have to do the meds. I'm cheering for you!

I'm enjoying your diary, David! My assistant came in and I kept answering in a busy monotone so he would leave and I could get back to it, lol.

You are making great progress for just a couple weeks, huh? I'm sure you feel very empowered. Is your wife talking to you yet, lol?

It's funny you mentioned cost cause as I was reading your delectable menus I was running a tab in my head. Eeesh. But as you said, well worth it! I've heard Farmer's Markets are often less costly, and the product is better too.

Anyhoo, I just wanted to add my support. I'm fairly new and trying to get to know everyone through their great diaries. I'm rooting for you, with or without meds!

I'm not sure if I welcomed you back yet or not... I know I haven't done so in your journal. So...

Welcome back, it's nice to see ya around these parts.

And I have to thank you for your advice offered so far in my journal. Means a lot. This whole experience is a bit overwhelming from my perspective.

Seems like you're doing well with your plan. Weight is coming down and BP seems to be in check. I feel ya on the desire to avoid meds. I think I read you're giving yourself 90 days... is that right?

David - great WI this week. The BP looks awesome too! Keep it up.

I hear ya about the 1 leads to who knows what. I have certain triggers that I need to completely avoid too, just no way around it yet.

I also tend to be a secret eater myself. That one is hard to break sometimes. Good job replacing the large coffee with a small. I hope you got decaf?

Thanks for stopping by Steve,

My Doctor and I agreed on the 90 days. He wanted me on the Meds (4 of them) right away, I wanted to lose weight first. I asked him how long would it reasonably take to see a reduction in BP due to (major) lifestyle modifications, he said 90 days.

So at the end of 90 days (mid October) I'll repeat the blood work and the 24 hr ambulatory BP monitor and if I have brought my average pressure down from 150/95 which it was to 140/80 then I'll avoid taking Meds and continue with the lifestyle mods until I am in a normal range (125/75).

If I haven't lost a significant amount of weight or if my BP stays high then I'll start with the meds.

I am hoping having very real consequences will keep me focused on weight loss and a healthy lifestyle long term.

No problem about the advice on the house. I am happy to help. I love old homes. I've spent lots of time learning to restore old houses and learning how they were built. It's tough because most people have a really optomistic idea about how long things take and how expensive it can get. I suppose that it is because of television shows, where things are resolved neatly in a half hour.

Thanks again for stopping by.

David

That's cause they don't watch Norm on This Old House -where a house can take an entire season to make habitable :)

Back when I watched TV more I did used to like This Old House, particularly because they did do a full season right from design to finishing and they'd show the problems that occurred along the way. Of course it was still idyllic in terms of all the subcontractors being where they were supposd to be at the right time and all of the materials magically were there too.

I think every season's project went over budget even though some were at least partially subsidized.

Real life jobs often don't go quite so smoothly.

Grumpy tonite...don't know why. Guess it's time to take my grumpybutt to bed.

Quickly checking in-

Today was the company picnic. Too much food and a Guiness or 5 more than I should've. Walked this AM and BP was good. so Onward!

Yesterday was a good day on the program. I ate carefully and walked my hour. My route is about 3.5 miles and typically it takes me an hour and ten minutes or so.

Today I did it in an Hour! I just felt good so I'd really push for the distance of 3 or 4 utility poles and then back off for a couple. So I think I kept the pace up overall.

BP was high yesterday 145/95 but SWMBO and I were fighting over stupid stuff and I was pretty gripped up. Pet the Kitty, pet the kitty, pet the kitty!!!!!

All better now!

Weigh in is Tuesday AM, hoping for a couple of pounds...

good for you for shaving 10 minutes off your time...

Mal- If only... But we did make up! :blush5:

Today at work somebody asked me if I had lost weight! Yay!

Friday was the company picnic (we take the afternoon off on a Friday-it helps attendance) so there was a bit too much :cheers2: and :piggy:

Tomorrow is my weigh-in day, so we'll see.

Today was good, had a nice fast walk, didn't get rained on and my BP was 132/80 so seems to be coming back down after the weekends tense moments with SWMBO.
