Looking to lose an extra human I apparently picked up along the way

Thanks. Right now dumbbells are just not my friend because of the splint on my left pinky. My arms are somewhat longish (I think because it allows me to drag my knuckles on the ground). My grip was roughly shoulder width, so the guys were right that I could widen it some. Thanks again.

170.5 this morning, and that's a little more like it.

Thinking about going to see a local band tonight: Okilly Dokilly. They bill themselves as the world's only Nedal band. IE, they play heavy metal while dressed like Ned Flanders from the Simpsons:

Every band needs a hook I guess...

Okilly Dokilly sound my kind of band.

172.5 this morning. Went absolutely off the rails on the weekend and was 176 on Monday morning.

Going to see the hand doctor on Friday and we'll see what he says about my pinky. I'm also due for my yearly physical, so I gotta schedule that today.

Checking and the high today is still gonna be 104. There can't be too much longer of this left. It cools off a little better in the evenings now.

UPDATE: Uh oh, the one legged leg press didn't go so good today. I think I suffered a groin strain. I stopped immediately. hmm. Doesn't feel too bad, but I have to keep an eye on it.

104? Yuck! Today is supposed to hit 90 and that's the highest high for this week. I'm hoping it's the last high in the 90s until spring, but probably not. I hope it cools off for you quickly.

Hello MrVee, this is Mark. Just joined yesterday and am floating around trying to meet a few people. Looks like you've had incredible success in your weight loss efforts. Congrats to you. I'm sure you've inspired many here. Feel free to visit my diary should you wish to.

Thanks Mark, and welcome to my lair.

Anyhow, forgot to weigh myself when I got out of bed this morning, and by the time I remembered I had already eaten and had a Diet Coke. so no real point. But I had stacked three perfect days in a row so I'm not worried about it as it should have been fine.

On the groin strain, was a little nervous as today was cardio day (no lifting today) and was wondering how it'd feel while running. Result: no problems whatsoever. Seems to only affect me when I twist and rotate my right leg. It was pretty sore last night while trying to sleep, but the treadmill seemed to loosen it up. So the injury appears to be very minor.

The bigger concern is what adjustment I might need to make in order to prevent it from happening again on my next leg day. Not sure what caused it as it's an exercise I've been doing for months with no real issue. Yes it's the heaviest I've went, but I didn't actually fail on the rep when it happened. I successful completed the rep, it just hurt like hell at the start of it. *shrug*

My normally work at home job, becomes a bit of an office job next week as my bosses sent me an e-mail saying they'll be in town for some meetings next week. I won't have to be there all day, so the adjustments to my schedule should be pretty minor. Afternoon workouts.

What sort of foot position do you have on the leg press ? a wide foot position will bring the adductors into the movement hence more strain in the groin. A high foot position will put more emphasis on the glutes and hamstrings and a low foot position will put more emphasis on the quads.

I think part of the problem might be that it was a single leg press (IE ,pushing the platform with just one leg and the other on the floor) so maybe that's what did it (imbalance or something). But I hadn't had problems with it until yesterday. The idea was to have the feet a little higher to work the glutes, but it's possible I had my foot too wide yesterday. They should have little feet outlines on the platform like they used to have in dance classes. :D

I dunno, but I could tell something was off immediately and so I stopped more or less immediately.

it's a fine line when the weights get heavy, but it doesn't sound to bad for you so, onwards and upwards :)

Most of the newbie lifting advice out there is for folks much younger than me, and so that's my only concern. What a 22 year old might be able to tolerate physically and what I can tolerate at 44 are likely different. But I suppose 44 really isn't all that old as long as I don't take silly risks.

172.5 this morning, which is a little disappointing considering how well I've done diet wise the last 4 days. But I do need to keep a level head here and understand that I trashed my diet for three days straight last weekend and will need another week or two to more accurate evaluate my weight loss rate. I was 176 on Monday morning, and 170.5 on last Friday, so it's really hard to gauge right now.

Going to the hand doc today to have him look at my pinky. I don't think he's going to be happy with the progress, but who knows. Saving my workout for after the doctor.

Tonight is a big test, the weekends have absolutely ruined me lately and I just can't let that happen anymore.

Hope you have a good weekend, without trashing the diet Vee. Good luck with the doc! Cheers, Cate

Thanks Cate. The doctor changed my splint up, now instead of the ligament tear he's splinted the double dislocation. Four more weeks in this splint. And then "night splinting" whatever the hell that is.

I have ribs a cooking. I decided making my favorite would dissuade me from going out to eat. Checking to see if the band playing at the Rebel Lounge tonight is listenable. Would get me out of the house, but would be able to listen to music instead of just sitting at a bar. Or I could go to "First Friday" downtown, but that's of limited fun when you're going by yourself.

Night splinting means just what it says; you put the splint on when you go to bed and take it off when you get up. Sounds like something Dr Kellogg could have invented in his war on masturbation :leaving:

Enjoy the ribs and the music!

I can't remember how to spell the Tassie call for finding someone so I will use the east Texas version.

HAAAAYUH! WHERE'S YOU AT?! YOU STILL OVAIR?!

Thank you for all of the exotic calls. I appreciate it. Still alive and not really too bad off weight wise. Maybe gained a pound or two, but the folks at the gym said they noticed my arms getting beefed up a bit, so that's good.

Anyway been stupid busy with work the last two weeks, and my bosses were in town last week and so got to meet with them and a bunch of my co-workers. The good news is I'm really proud of something I managed to get accomplished while working so hard, so hopefully this little thing I cooked up at work will be as effective as I think it's going to be.

The short term goal at this point is top simply stop drinking as I'm pretty sure my weight and health goals will fall into line pretty easily if I can get that done. I also need to carve out some time to do some cleaning around here.

Thanks again for not forgetting about me and I'll try and do more soon.

Work comes first, it´s as simple as that. Helping you hope your hard work will pay off, having things to be proud of makes everything just that little bit easier.
