I live two blocks from the nearest Walmart and a block and a half from the nearest Target. Theoretically I never have to leave more than a two block radius from here for the rest of my life.
My Health Club has a basketball court, and so you either shoot around, or often there's enough people there to have "pick up" games. Because it's summer and the youngsters (and their teachers) are not in High School or College, the court tends to be pretty packed.

Starting to finally run into something of a problem situation that many people who try and "get in shape" have to deal with but because of how big I was it took me much longer to get there. When you're out of shape, the amount of actual exertion you need to do to get your heart rate up into the ranges necessary to get a good work out is fairly low. What happens is that after successfully committing to a workout plan and getting in shape, the things you need to do to get the same level of workout become more and more strenuous.
IE, I'm now in a situation where it simply doesn't matter how far or for how long I walk, my heart rate just isn't going to crack 120. That's not a problem except that in many cases, more strenuous workouts become workouts more likely to lead to injuries. The repetitive pounding of jogging can be death on your knees and ankles if you try and do it every day. Even walking at a consistent incline eventually puts a lot of stress on your ankles (which is probably the only area of mine that's even close to a "trouble spot"). Basketball of course has some inherent risks.
The one strenuous exercise I know that doesn't have these concerns is swimming. But then I'd have to get over being self-conscious about being out in public in swim trunks...
