lochmond's weight loss

hey! so I've just signed up to this forum, and I'm excited, yet a little nervous to start losing weight. I don't want to let myself down. Just to recap I'm a 19 year old student who now weighs... 176lbs. I aim to get down to 140lbs for my 5"7 height. I've got a reaalllly high bone density, and so I don't think I'll ever get any lower but I guess I'll just have to see.

At the moment I do a reasonable amount of exercise, and I would say I eat healthily. My only problem is when I get home from college, I find that I tend to pig out on potato chips or ice cream.. I'm not really a big fan of chocolate. Despite this, I never put on weight during the semesters, its only in the summers that I land into trouble :( last summer I managed to put 12lbs on in around 6 weeks, it was probably because my grandma kept baking me all these nice meals because we live in different continents. BUT this summer is going to be different. I have vowed not to put on any weight. My plan is to lose around 1lb a week or 2lb a week until I go away, and as I am going on a cruise I have decided to go to the gym once every other day so that I can eat all the nice food on the ship. As it is a diary, I will give you a brief outline of what I ate today (is that how you do it?? be kind!)
Breakfast - Special K Red Berries with fresh berries and a glass of milk
Morning snack - 250g of strawberries and a mountain dew (we don't have diet mountain dew in the UK so it was a real treat and it was the last one!)
Lunch - Chicken salad with cantaloupe melon (on the side)
Afternoon snack - ummm... doritoes :( not that many tho... and a chicken drumstick
Supper- Chicken with coleslaw

I also did 1 1/2 hours of exercise after supper, I went cycling and played some tennis... oh and I did 1/2 hour of wii fit so I hope it cancelled out those doritoes! I weigh myself on thursday, and so I hope all these lifestyle changes may start to add up??

Hey! Congratulations on starting your new life! 140 lbs is an awesome goal, and it's perfect for your height.
I know how you feel about summers. Relatives are probably the single biggest sabotage to a healthy diet. But, that's when you get to exercise your willpower. It gets stronger every time you say 'no.'
So jealous of your cruise vacation. I've never been on one, but I hear the buffets can be killer! Just keep your workouts steady, and try to incorporate weight training. Muscle is what will help you speed up your metabolism, and keep you looking fit.
Stop by my journal and say hi sometime! I'll keep reading yours!

Thanks, I will! I guess I had a relatively healthy day today....

Breakfast - Special K Red Berries with fresh strawberries on top
Morning Snack - Blueberries
Lunch - Ham sandwich with coleslaw
Afternoon Snack - An apple and doritoes (but I managed to finish them off and I'm cutting back!)
Supper - Hot dog with oven fries and green beans, I know it's bad, but it was a friends barbeque, and it was all homemade.... I promise it won't happen again :0

I also managed to go cycling for an hour. I just rode around near where I live and for once I was kinda glad that I live in such a hilly part of London :) I drunk loads of water, I think I've realised since I started my healthy lifestyle, that I was not drinking NEARLY ENOUGH water before as I think I drunk just TWO GLASSES A DAY (I also drunk 2 glasses of milk!) Weighing myself on thursday, so tomorrow I've signed myself up to stand in for someone in a cricket game... I'm also going kayaking which should be fun!

I'm an English girl too! Not many of us around here ;) I'm from Reading but living in Portsmouth! I'm a student too and don't like choccie so we have stuffs in common! I also weigh near your weight! Let's hope we do well this week and see some results soon! Good luck :)

I'd say today I did well today! Really well in fact, without even noticing the fact I was eating a lot healthier. I think my stomach is shrinking as I make my portion sizes smaller :)

Breakfast - Special K Red Berries with red apple and a glass of milk
Morning Snack - 140g of strawberries and 80g of blueberries
Lunch- Ham sandwich (wholemeal bread) with some cherries
Afternoon Snack - One, ONE graham cracker! (I stopped myself!)
Supper- Chicken with broccoli, coleslaw, and potato salad :)

I also did 40min canoeing and around 30min cricket, so I'd say I do well. I hope I get results for tomorrow :S Kinda nervous....

Hey I'm a from London and a student too!
Sounds like you're doing really well and making the right changes. Good Luck :)

Today was a bit frustating!! My first official weigh in since last week and I appear to have gained 0.7lbs!! I know it's a bit dissapointing, but I actually do think I've lost weight as on Saturday and Sunday it was barbecue time and my parents would not let me leave until I'd had my big fat serving of cake... I do feel slimmer however, maybe i've gained muscle mass? My body feels healthier and in a way, gaining that 0.7lbs has just made me that little bit more determined and realised this will be a long and frustrating process but I can make it if I put in the effort!

Scales can be really depressing. Why not try taking your measurements? You'll probably see results faster, especially if you're weight training. I know some weeks when I haven't lost weight, I've lost inches.

thanks for the advice!! I joined the gym today and spent 1/2 hour on the elliptical cross trainer and another 1/2 hour doing some spinning! It was quite fun :)

Breakfast - Special K Red Berries with a peach
Morning Snack - Leftover birthday cake from my dad's 50th
Lunch - Leftover pizza and another peach
Afternoon Snack - Ice to suck on, as we're having a heat wave here in london. I didn't have time to get some fruit as I headed to the gym as soon as I got home.
Supper - Haddock fish with potatoes and broccoli, and after, 2 doritoes

I've found that posting what I eat everyday is really helpful,, as if I'm about to eat something unhealthy I think "no, I won't have that because I don't really want to have to write about it in my diary" - so it's SUCH a big help!

eekk! I guess today was ok....

Breakfast - Special K Red Berries with a spoon of honey on top
Morning Snack - None
Lunch - Tomato soup and a beef and salad sandwich
Afternoon snack - None
Supper - Wholemeal chicken fajitas wrap and after mango sorbet and some home-made popcorn

I didn't get to the gym today, as my legs were still kind of tired from yesterday, and I read somewhere that if you keep exercising when it hurts it can cause serious harm??? I'm going tomorrow though! I also went and played tennis for an hour and cycled for about 15mins :) tomorrow I'm going to a friend's party (I know, another one!) but I am going to make sure I find the willpower to say "NO!!!"

I know they say "no pain, no gain." That's true and it's not. More than anything, you need to listen to your body.
Skipping the gym once in a while is a good thing. Keep exercising your will power!!

I went to the gym again today. 25mins on both treadmill and elliptical.

Breakfast - Special K and a peach
Morning Snack - Cereal bar
Lunch - Ham wrap and some rasberries and cherries
Afternoon Snack -Apple and a small lollipop
Supper - Chicken with new potatoes, carrots, peas and asparagus :p
Evening snack - I just had some doritoes because I was worried I'd gone below 1200 calories, and then my body will start holding onto fat, that's what happened last week :(

I know it sounds weird, but I'm still growing (my mom stopped growing at 20) and so I may feel slimmer, but I haven't lost any weight because I'm still growing. If I grow another inch... my BMI will go down by 2 :) I also did about 1hr of cricket...

i ate quite healthy today, and I feel full! but also kind of sluggish but I am really tired and had to hand in an essay today so I was up all night...

Breakfast - Special K with cinnamon and an apple
Morning Snack - These special corn potato crisp things that are really low in fat
Lunch - Raspberries, strawberries, and a pepperoni and Philadelphia sandwich
Afternoon Snack - 8 mini marshmallows, some more corn crisps :(
Supper - One pitta bread, then 1/4 slice of pie without the filling (just didn't feel like it)

I walked at a quick speed for 1/2 hour and I did 30 sit ups and some minor weight lifting.

I feel so healthy!! Today I did canoeing for 45 mins, gym for an hour, and then cricket for an hour!

Breakfast - Special K with an apple
Morning Snack - 30g honey and a cereal bar
Lunch - 2 pitta bread with Philadelphia in and some fruit salad
Afternoon Snack - Low fat corn chips with low fat dip
Supper - Half a leftover Hawaiian pizza !!

Tomorrow is weigh in. I feel lighter. There are so many reasons that I want to do this. I often feel uncomfortable and unconfident in myself. I want to be able to go into a shop and buy clothes that aren't huge and that fit me well and look good on me. For the first time in my life, I want to wear that bikini. I have been overweight since I was around 10 :( At my school they served us lunches that were normally fish & chips or burgers. We were not allowed to leave the table until we ate it. When I got into 7th grade I found a new love; potato chips. After a year of this I realised I was doing serious harm to my body and mostly gave them up. I never put on weight during a school year, but in the summer it was the relatives that wanted to cook me all the nice meals. I hope tomorrow will not be a repeat of next week :)

Wow, what a terrible system to put in place in a school! Especially with burgers and fried food. I can see forcing a child to eat all their fruits and vegetables, but a greasy fried burger? That's abuse. No wonder you put on weight as a kid.

It was terrible... it wasn't necessarily fried food every day, but most days it was something VERY high in carbs and fat AND calories... most of the people that left that school ended up being overweight... hmmmm... but anyway...

I reached 175.8!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OH MY DAYS! It is the lowest I have seen in over a year!!!!!!!!!! I want to get below 175...... :) I will push myself....

Breakfast - Special K with apple
Morning Snack - Baked crisps with low fat dip
Lunch - Caesar salad and raspberries
Afternoon Snack - 4 Breadsticks
Supper - One hot dog with potatoes and beans

I signed myself up for some new courses next year, including yoga and gym!! Should be great :D

Ah! Congratulations! You're so awesome! I bet you get below 175 within a week. And kudos for signing up for active classes. You're eating well too. Keep it up!
