Little John's trying again. And again. Aaaand again.

Nope, no fried M&C balls for me! I'm sure something will weaken my defenses, though. Heading out for the hike in a few minutes. Good hiking weather today - mid-60s and no sun makes this sweaty lad a happy lad.

I consider myself a sweaty lady, so I dig the cloudy cool weather as well. Have a great time tonight, make some good choices

The hike went well, I got in an hour at a brisk pace, and the weather was, indeed, perfect. I suppose I should have been listening to nature, but instead I had my earbuds in for Howard Stern's interview with Mike Tyson, which was really entertaining. Could have hoofed another hour in those conditions, but I had to go eat food.

The party, well, I stayed under calories for the day, so that's a win, but there really were no good choices other than a really basic vegetable platter (carrots, celery, cuke, peppers). Stuffed mushrooms, pigs-in-a-blanket, fried cheese, and so on. I caved, but not to gluttonous levels, and I planned for it by keeping the calories low the rest of the day. Also, only one beer.

Today should be easy enough, but tomorrow... Tomorrow is that day of days, Halloween. Our standard tradition has been to go to my sister-in-laws house to trick-or-treat her neighborhood and get a pizza. And hand out candy. I think I can handle pizza in reasonable amounts, since there should be a salad involved, too. Candy will be the real test. As long as I can avoid that first piece, I think I can pull it off.

Vee, I think once you see a number that starts with 3 on the scale, regardless of the other two, you're demonstrating some kind of bad personal choice in life unless you're 8 feet tall! But no point in sulking in the past, just gotta keep plodding forward.

Sun and Acorn, no mac and cheese balls to speak of, but the pigs-in-a-blanket were actually jumbo dogs wrapped in pastry dough and cut in 1" segments. I called them Hot Dog Wellington. And I only had two pieces.

mmm, pigs in blankets. Delicious. I've been thinking about those fried cheese ball things ALL morning. Need them in my life. Sounds like you did really well sweets--Looks like you have a good plan for tomorrow as well!

As a childless suburbanite with no family in the area I honestly didn't even think about Halloween being an issue. We don't get trick or treaters on my little 4 house road, so as long as I avoid half price candy on Nov 1 I'm safe. Load up on the salad, and maybe set aside some of your favorite candy to mindfully treat yourself with? Communal bowls, man, there ain't nothing good about those.

You've stumbled onto the real issue. I was meant to be a giant and somehow my height was stunted at 6' 3".

Great job on the hike and the party. You didn't "cave" if you kept to calories. Nicely done! Hopefully Halloween goes as well too.

No kids or trick or treaters does make life easier at Halloween. Candy has never been the problem for me. Pizza is a different story. Don't even get me started on fried cheese. Nice pic! Looking good! I need to update mine at some point.

I'm usually OK shunning candy as long I don't have that first one. Scent is a key motivator for me - so pizza will be a challenge, of course. And my wife likes to bake cookies; she's been pretty good about hiding all but 2 or 3 from me, and I'm good at pretending I don't know where she hides them.

Interesting row last night, figured I'd up my game a little by adding in a few higher-speed intervals (1 minute at about 1:50 m/500m, back down to 2:10 the rest of it). That worked well, I ended up burning 600 calories in the row, instead of the usual 530 or so (I know, not a huge difference, but I'm still pleased with it).

BUT(T), halfway through, my nether regions started to grumble and I had to make a run to the bathroom - I blame the junk I ate the night before. Ugh, talk about a motivation killer. Heart rate dropped, I was getting bored with rowing, it would have been an easy sell for me to talk myself out of finishing the row. I didn't, though, and finished it like a boss!

700 calories under goal last night (2216 net goal for the day - 2130 in, 600 out), it was a good day.

Rowing does a lot of repetitive gut contorting. It's not something I like to do following a chili lunch.

Nice job powering through!

Just her making the effort to hide them should be enough. You wouldn't want to eat them if she was kind enough to hide them albeit poorly.

Hope you had a nice and light Halloween. We do not celebrate Halloween in DK, nevertheless I had 2 Groups og tricktreaters knocking at the door - and one guy with the bible. I let the kids have some nasty looking flesh wound tattoos, but that's it. We have a similar costume party thing with trickortreats in February so we wait untill then.

Well done on finishing. That willpower is what will make the difference with weight loss (and anything else for that). Every calories helps!

Well done on finishing the row! That must have taken a lot of determination - kudos!

Must be so hard with a baker in the house - homemade cookies are the bomb! Self control training at its finest.. well done :)

I'm the baker in our house, but I end up freezing everything. There are a few cookies that remain easy enough to binge on even when frozen, but those are few and far between. Everything gets wrapped up tight in single servings.

Another challenging weekend survived. I broke even on Friday night, pizza is the enemy, especially when there wasn't enough salad available, but I only had a couple pieces of candy at the very end of the night. I didn't have time enough to lift, but I did get in a vigorous 30 minute row, and that worked out quite well.

Saturday was as expected, my wife and I got to have a date night that included bar hopping with lots of fancy beers and cocktails. I made reasonable choices for breakfast and lunch, though, and got in a decent lift. I came in a lot of calories over target.

AND Sunday wasn't the best, but not the worst, either. Breakfast at my parents' house with entirely too much breakfast sausage. And an early dinner of lobster - I had two of them, with gobs of butter. I managed to avoid anything else bad, though, so it wasn't a total disaster, though my exercise for the day was somewhat of a let down in that I only managed a 30 minute walk due to schedule availability.

End of the week: I came in about 400 calories under the weekly goal, first time coming south of the border since starting a month ago. I don't foresee any major challenges this week, and even the weekend might be survivable for a change!

Today's my first workday without soda, which shouldn't be that bad, really. I joined the choose-your-own-adventure challenge for November, and I'm definitely drinking too much soda (diet, but still). I am, however, quite hungry at the moment, and still an hour away from lunch!

Great job coming in under calorie especially with the weekend you had. Sounds like a great time.

I find that not drinking diet soda reduces my cravings for sweets. Plus it's just chemicals and does nothing positive for you. I'm with you on the hunger. My "afternoon" snack (apple) is about to meet an early demise.

Good for you being under calories for the week! And it looks like you got in at least some amount of exercise each day. Building healthy habits is key, that way you're less likely to one day find yourself 6 months away from your last workout. Date night is important too, you gotta indulge a little when you get a night away!

Can you please stop mentioning pizza though? I want pizza. The last pizza I had was disappointing, it was catered and paper thin and soggy. Blech.

Pooooor lobster :( Always feel so bad for them sitting in their little tanks waiting to be nommed.

Ditto on what Oaks has said too--I NEED PIZZA. Pepperoni and sweetcorn and black olives stuffed crust with extra cheeeeeeeeeeeeeeese.

Oaks, I won't mention what I had for dinner last night... I eat too much of that round stuff, I'm realizing, but I did come in under goal yesterday, courtesy of a 30-minute leisurely row.

Q, I kept reading these articles about sodas, and both diet and sugary have so many bad side effects - most recently soda alters your DNA? What??!!

Sunflower, these fellas were caught that morning, so no tank life. They had a better life than most store-bought meats, so there's that.

Today is vegetarian Tuesday for me - Greek yogurt for breakfast, minestrone soup for lunch, veggie lasagna for dinner. Weights night tonight.
