Little John's trying again. And again. Aaaand again.

May 18: 2156 calories in, 203 calories out, 2080 net goal. 127 calories below goal
May 19: Forgot to weigh

Vee, I couldn't get the page to work, but I found these formulae for the spreadsheeter in all of us: http://fitness.stackexchange.com/qu...to-measure-calorie-burn-from-heart-rate-alone. I also saw the point that there's really no good way to pin down what the calorie burn really is (one point I read - do you burn more calories when you down a couple Red Bulls?)

Thanks for the "run" encouragements. Hope to never have to do it again!

Took a nice (but sorta sweaty) lunchtime walk yesterday. I got dinner duty, and created a rather tasty mess of chicken, feta, onions and mushrooms on a tortilla. I kept changing my mind on what it was going to be, based on mood, available ingredients, and limited dexterity due to the fact my left hand can't get wet or really hold much beyond basic clamping.

I kinda assumed you went with the almost Captain Hook theme to avoid houshold chores. Why did you do it then?

Two cute kiddos! Hopefully your daughter's stuff settles out quickly.

Running can be fun I promise! Okay so more precisely you can learn to enjoy the struggle of running most of the time, the actual run on occasion, and rarely just being glad that you're done. Also it has a very low amputation rate as hobbies go.

Keep up the good work LJ!

Another lame update.

No update is a lame update, LJ! Just getting logged in on here sometimes feels like a mahoosive shitty effort when I've not been up to much but just posting is awesome :)

My dad taught me to ride a bike--then my sister. My mum told him to make us wear helmets but he never did and we took my sister to a BMX trail and she cut her head open and we had to go to hospital and my dad slept on the sofa for a fortnight. I think you've made some lovely memories :D

May 19: 2,420 calories in, 603 calories out, 2080 net goal. 263 calories below goal
May 21: 331.0 lbs

I can't believe I lost that much weight in 2 weeks (7 lbs), I definitely have to check the scale batteries. I almost didn't exercise yesterday, but I forced myself to do hillclimb laps in my backyard for about half an hour, and I'm really glad I did, felt good to keep the heart rate up for a good stretch.

Q - I know it can be rewarding, but running downhill on pavement with hiking boots to potentially save a trip to the ER, or at least a trip to CVS for more gauze and Neosporin....

Sunflower - Good memories for more than her, too.

KP - True, I just feel like a sot for not being active on here, and not responding to others' diaries. It's just been a busy week.

LJ- everyone has moments where they do not feel like responding in diaries. Keeping your diary up is most important & will help you the most. We know where to visit you :) Just keep on going LJ. Well done on the loss, xo Cate

May 19: 2,380 calories in, 100 calories out, 2080 net goal. 300 calories above goal
May 21: 331.4 lbs

Looks like I hit the stabilization point on the weight loss - meaning I can kiss that .5 - 1 lb/day loss behind. I knew it was going to happen eventually.

Weekend cometh, camping with the family should be good, we wanted to bring the bicycles, but my hand won't let me ride right now, but there's plenty of walking/hiking to be had, too.

Thanks Cate!

Don't get discouraged because that period of quick weight loss is gone. The truth is that even if you never lose another pound (which I highly doubt would happen), you're still better off being active and eating right that you would be otherwise.

Great job on the weight loss and forcing yourself to exercise even when you were thinking of not!
Have fun camping! I can't wait to go for the first time this year!

There are no lame updates, just lame posters. :D

Just keeping up the updates are going to lead to progress, as keeping your goals in the front of your mind makes it easier to attack them.

I can. Congrats on earning it. That's one of the better things about this sort of plan, there's really no lottery aspect to it: you do what you need to do, and the weight comes off.

If you're interested, I can send you the weigh-ins from almost three years worth of weight loss (I'm guessing I have weigh ins on roughly 65% of those days. You'll see stuff like that happen: drop six pounds one week, none the next week, one the week after, and then five the next for an average of three a week which is fantastic. It's really kind of weird and often I had no real good explanation for it.

Even now, despite it being more stable, the weight sometimes goes up and down in strange fits and spurts.

As for not responding in diaries, I'm kind of the worst at that and I feel guilty about it too. I think both of us shouldn't worry so much about it.

May 22-25: many calories in, many calories out, many calories above goal.
May 26: 333.4 lbs - a little more than half evil

Good long weekend, got a little carried away on the gluttony front, but I did a ton of walking - the bathroom itself was a quarter mile round trip from our site, and I was the preferred escort for my daughter when she had to go. Camping with that age proved an interesting test - especially the first night, which was poorly planned and involved a lot of midnight wakeups. The next two nights were better, in fact the kids slept later on Monday than they do at home.

This week, too much to do, not enough time to do it. Got a friend coming down this weekend to help replace my brakes - a task I prefer to do myself, but I can with my current hand situation. Plus my license expires this weekend. Spoda be rainy all week, too, so lunchtime walks are iffy. I think I might look into doing some isometrics as a replacement for weight lifting until I can get my left back.

Cory - Thanks, I'm definitely not discouraged. I always think of that loss as sort of the karate yellow belt - more of an encouragement than any sign of skill. But, hey, it's a yellow belt!

MR - Thanks! It was fun, we even shopped some other sites for next year. Nice to find a state campground that's clean and well-appointed, but still reasonable prices.

Vee - Appreciate the input. I know all about the fluctuations, need to not think on them too much.

Did the kids have a good time camping?? I have to admit I like more remote sites now so I can avoid as many families as possible, but I hope to one day have a little kiddo or two of my own to bring to a fun family campground.

Glad you had a good time camping! It's so easy to eat a lot camping! My friends tend to do a lot of sitting around the campfire and not a ton of walking/exercising so I don't 'make up' for my overeating so well!

May 26: May 19: 2,453 calories in, 83 calories out, 2080 net goal. 290 calories above goal
May 27: 333.8 lbs

Just having a hard time getting back from the long weekend, I guess. It didn't help matters that the pizza place messed up our order and gave us a freebie. So that's pizza for dinner two night in a row.

Oaks - the kids had a blast, actually. Very kid-friendly, lots of bicycle trails. It's also got lots of secluded sites - if you're looking for a good campground, Burlingame State Park in RI. Alcohol prohibited, but I think as long as you're not making a scene and being discrete, you're fine.

Mystic - we'll do it again, for sure! Complete with being further away from the bathrooms!

Hi LJ, camping is such great fun for kids, but such hard work for parents. I gave it up decades ago. It's great in theory.
I hope you can get your mojo back soon LJ. I know how hard it can be. Hurting your hand would not have helped. One step at a time. Once you're back on track your mood will lift, xo Cate

Oof, three "B"s that shouldn't fall on the same week:
- Birthday
- Business Travel
- Boys Weekend

That makes for a lot of Bad decisions and Beer. Luckily my Belt is about the same as the Beginning of this Belly Buster.

I'll skip the details, but I like to try new things, and in this case I tried new foods and new beers. I tallied the latter and came up with 79 new beers tried (it became a mission...). The good news is that I'm done drinking for a while.
