Lisa's Journal

Wow! Good for you. I had to take a Socio class for my Associates Degree when I got it in 2000, and I hated the professor. He was a chauvinistic PIG. Basically said that all women needed to be seen and not heard and live beneath all men etc.

I have a friend who was planning on majoring in Sociology until she took her first class and hated her professor. I was the opposite. I didnt know what Sociology was until I got here and my advisor was a Sociology professor. I liked him so much that I decided to try Sociology out...and now I love it. He used to be a burglary homicide detective in Detroit, so he has soooo many interesting stories, plus he is just an amazing teacher. I look at the world in a totally different way now.

I actually had a loss this week!! Only 1.4lbs, but hey, i'll take it! lol I have eaten soo much this week, so I really wasnt expecting any loss. I know it usually works the opposite where when you dont lose you get inspired to have a better week next week, but I am actually really inspired by the fact that I did lose when I thought I wouldnt, so I will really try next week to stay away from the carbs and exericise more.

I have been way too sedentary lately. Its hard being a student, though. I dont even have a big campus that lets me get walking in just going to class. You can literally walk from one side of campus to the other in 3 minutes. I would hate to have a pedometer and see how little I actually do walk each day. I mean I literally sit on my butt ALL day lol. I wish I could figure out something to do just to keep me active during the day. I also havent been keeping up with my exercise. I have realized that I simply detest gym cardio machines, so I am going to have to just stick to walking outside and on the track. This week I have had the excuse of it threatening to storm really badly (and then of course it doesnt) but I wouldnt go to the track because there would be threatening clouds. NO MORE EXCUSES LISA. I need to start exercising more. Seriously. My weight loss up to this point has pretty much been diet alone, so I want to see what can happen if I stick to an exercise plan. Grrrrrr I hate my will power lol. I keep telling myself that it will be so much easier this summer when I have a membership to a gym and can go use the pool (my favorite form of exercise). But summer is 4 weeks away, so I have to figure out a plan for the meantime.

Calories for 4/14/07

Breakfast: apple- 80 calories
Lunch: zone bar and a kashi cookie- 330 calories (I didnt have time to go to the cafeteria, so I was stuck with what I had in my room)

Dinner: one cheese manicotti, small bowl of beans, bowl of cereal (mix of bran cereal and granola)- approx. 750 calories

Grrr I got hungry around 11pm tonight and was seriously craving something sweet....so i went to the vending machine and got a package of mini oreos- 200 calories (which is actually lower than I thought it would be). I wish I could get rid of these sugar cravings.......they are just so strong.

So, total calories for the day comes out to about 1440 calories....not bad, but I didnt eat that healthily today.

Woo Hoo on the 1.4 pounds GONE!!

Diet is a HUGE component of weightloss - something like 80% (took that figure right out of thin air since I've heard it bantered around and have no inclination to get the RIGHT number confirmed) ;) Whatever it is actually - it is the primary component of weightloss (I'm so official today!) ;)

So if you've lost 34.4 pounds with diet alone, you are doing great at making life style changes with how and what you eat!

That is something that will last you a life time! :) Be very proud of that!

Thanks so much. I think lately I have gotten lazy on the diet part. I used to be a lot stricter with myself. I think I am going to re-read the book Eating to Live...it really inspired me before. Just by learning about all the health benefits of eating healthy foods made my desires for bad foods wither away. But since I finished the book about a month ago, my desire for the bad foods has creeped back up on me. I think knowledge of nutrition is key for me and I need to have it constantly in the back of my brain.

I did 3 miles on the track tonight.....bringing my total miles up to 39.7 . I am really going to try hard this week to workout most nights.

I realized something today. I am almost out of the "morbidly obese" category according to my BMI. I just have to get down to 240 and I will just be "obese". I know the BMI calculator doesnt really tell you much, but it really makes me feel great to know that I have almost done that...it will feel even better 5 pounds from now when I HAVE done that. Wow, I cant believe I am almost to the 40 pound mark....it really is amazing. I have felt better lately about how much I have lost. There was a while where I felt like I hadnt really gotten far and was having a hard time telling a difference in the way I look. But today I saw someone who i havent seen in a while and she complimented me on looking thinner. Also the fact that my size 20 jeans are no longer cutting off circulation helps lol. I really am starting to think I might reach my goal of being 200lbs before I go to Scotland. heck, I am almost halfway there from my starting point of 280lbs! I am going to post pictures again in the before and after section once I reach 240lbs- hopefully in 2 weeks or so.

I weighed myself this morning because I do weighins on Wednesday for my own journal and records but I do them on Friday for the challenges and changing my ticker. Well....this morning I weighed 243.2lbs- this is 4.2lbs lost since last Wednesday (at 247.4). I was pretty freakin excited :) though I dont know how I lost that much lol....my eating this past week has been pretty bad. Last night I started feeling shaky so I had a little binge of reeses sticks and a kashi cookie. Total yesterday, I probably had around 2000 calories. I was just SOO hungry lol. But yeah...I just thought I would share my excitement on here....I am so ready to be in the 230s.......hopefully in a week or so :)

Hey I like this diary... wish I had time to go back and read all the older entries. I also really liked "Eat to Live" by Fuhrman.

I did 4 miles on the track tonight, and I actually am not that tired out. Last night I did 3 and I was worn out afterwards. I really wish I could make time go faster. I love seeing results, and I am ok with the rate that I am losing weight, I just wish I could see how I am going to look further down the line. I would LOVE to see what I look like at 200lbs cause that is what I am aiming for before I go to Scotland. I am going to post before and after pictures soon, just to give myself a little pat on the back and show myself that I HAVE done a lot and it will only get better.

Total miles towards pedicure: 43.7
