Lisa's Final Countdown, The Good Days, the Bad, & the Ugly

OK so today so far:

Breakfast: generic diet frozen dinner-270 calories
(I was at work and heading for classes...go me for bein prepared!)

Lunch: 3 Taco bell taco supremes-640 calories

Serious? How many cals do you alot for a day? Damn men and their metabolisms!!!

Trust me, that sandwich was more than I was supposed to have!!! That was my colossal screw up this weekend. Normally I allot about ~2,800 - 3,000 per day. Given my height, weight & activity level that feels comfortable to me, and I'm losing about 1.5 lbs per week average over the last 2 months (including screw ups!), so it's all good.

LISAA!! Glad you got your fast internet back. Dial-up can be so annoying! Well, you are back on track now, and that's what counts! I'm glad to back into the swing of things too. It's been a week since the dental surgery, so I can finally start exercising again and getting back into eating normal. See ya around! :conehead:

Ah so I'm reading between the lines there...when I get to the point I am uncomfortable reducing my calories I better increase the exercise :)

Thanks Kristi :) Glad to be a part of things again and working on losing weight. I'm glad you're through your surgery and feeling better! Poor Karl though...bet you guys will be biking 40+ miles by next week, lmao

I ate dinner at work, had two frozen dinners in the freezer there and I was starving. One was 270 and the other was 350 so total 620 for dinner.

Yesterday's total calories were 1530. Good thing I didn't know that or I'd have found some more food somewhere, lol.

Today:

Breakfast-frozen dinner 370

Lunch-none

Dinner- KFC chicken, potatoes and mac and cheese, and 2 biscuits-1670 + 200 for butter on biscuits

Total- 2240

I don't plan on skipping meals..I was hungry when I got out of class but had to stop back at work on the way home and kept getting detained...so by the time I got home I was starving. I'm seeing I have to do something to stop skipping meals or going to long without eating because I end up pigging out. Not sure what is healthy that I can have on hand in my car that won't go bad but I'll take suggestions.

So I've come to the realization that I hate dread preplanning my food...actually I think its more like I hate it. I know that's one of my huge obstacles to weight loss and all the diets I've been on is I hate having to think about what I eat at all.

Maybe some of this comes from my past experiences. I remember my mom cooking when I was younger but when I hit teenage years it was all convience and fast food. I know how to cook but I enjoy doing it like a hobby...I hate having to do it with any kind of regularity. I guess because when I was cooking regularly it took so much time and energy out of my day and the clean up...I felt like I was spending what little time I had in the kitchen.

Then when I found freezer cooking a few years ago I was so excited...I finally thought I'd found a way around all this. But I'm one of those all or nothing kind of people on some things so when I started doing it I'd buy all the food and then after a few times of trying to cook big batches of a whole bunch of things, some that didn't turn out...I'd put off doing it again.

The end result was a whole freezer full of food that ended up wasted eventually when I didn't cook it, leaving me feeling horrible for the money I wasted. Recently when I stocked up again and used those green bags I bought to much veggies and threw alot out after two weeks it all went bad. Then I had just stocked up when we lost power a few weeks ago and I've had to throw out a whole lot of food again.

A local butcher is selling chicken breasts, 99 cents a pound but last time I got some thats part of what we ended up throwing out. I need to go to the grocery store and I've put it off. I guess I'm letting this all overwhelm me but I keep thinking there's got to be some magic solution. I want to stock my freezer and fridge with healthy food but stuff that we will eat and not waste money we don't have. I'm also worried now about losing all the food I stocked up all over again.

Anyway I'm sure all this sounds stupid but I needed to get it out so I could see it written down so to speak and figure it out. I'm going to have to find some sort of balance here because I can't keep on my busy schedule and lose weight if I skip meals or put off eating until by the time I do eat I'm starving and eating too much. Going to long without eating is also affecting my ability to think in my classes big time. We also can't afford for me to buy convenience food all the time either. So maybe I'm going to have to do some freezer cooking but in smaller doses because I just can't be in my kitchen cooking all the time. Even if I wanted to my schedule just isn't going to allow it...some days all I have time to do when I get home is get 5 hours sleep.

Meh....I'm frustrated...with myself and all of this. But if I want to ever stop this roller coaster dieting I'm going to have to figure out why I keep sabotaging myself.

Hey Lisa, let's work on this one together. My crazy schedule has been the number one reason for my issues with food too. I need to get stuff available and prepared so that I don't end up grabbing something on the go and regretting it afterwards.

Let's think of things we can do to make it work for us and share them. Hell, might not even be a bad idea to start a thread specifically for this situation. Maybe we can find out what other people are doing to avoid eating the wrong stuff when they are on the go.

Hey Lisa :)

I hear you on the food pre-planning. I've gotten a little better at it though lately, just because I really hate to eat fast food that often... I've been really into making healthy sandwiches for when I go to work, and at night I will bake or grill chicken breasts and steam veggies, etc. With the chicken, I usually try to make enough of it so that I have leftovers for a day or two, so i don't have to cook too often... It can be overwhelming if you let it be. I'm sure my schedule isn't near as busy as yours but I find taking an extra 10 or 15 minutes sometimes, just to be sure I'm eating something healthy, makes me feel really good.

Glad your internet is back up to speed :coolgleamA:

Thanks guys :) I did feel better after admitting I'm a lazy kitchen person, lol. One thing my husband reminded me though is we're no longer living in an apartment that's impossible to cook in in the summer and also no longer going outside and down 3 flights of stairs to get to our upright freezer. I think I just need to take things one week at a time until I get more comfortable.

Awesome idea. And also I'm thinking I can start by googling for some ideas online too. I'll share anything I find :)

I definitely have to agree with you Sam on the fast food. I really am sick of it and only the thought of not having to deal with meal preparation or being busy and exhausted makes it an option at all. When you steam your veggies do you have a veggie steamer? I've wondered about buying one.

Hola Lisa...

Believe it or not, I hate preparing my foods too. I just view it as part of life though, if I'm going to be happy with myself. I guess it's an acute vs. chronic happiness kind of thing.

It's easy to get caught up in the acute and allow that to dictate your decisions. Unfortunately, often times this type of decision making leaves life ultimately lacking of your bigger goals.

Simply put, bigger goals, those things you truly want (but many only dream about) normally come from doing things we don't necessarily love in the moment.

You have to step back and see the bird's eye view of it all. At least that's how I view things. If I keep these lenses on, it's much easier to make the right choices.

This and I refuse to buy anything else. And I'm not going to hit up fast food. So I buy that which I need, prepare it, refrigerate it and when I get home... there's no choice. Well I suppose I could go to bed really freaking hungry. Or eat what I prepped, lol.

I doubt this is helpful, as each of us are unique in our thoughts and perceptions... but this is how I see things personally.

No it IS helpful, thanks Steve. I had talked to you about a month ago and started writing down things I thought and felt about being overweight...it's not comfortable but I'm now admitting them in my diary. (btw any advice on what to do next with the list?) I'm still trying to work out some of my weird thoughts about things. But one thing I've gotten from you in previous conversations and in what you just posted, I HAVE to change my way of thinking and commit to changing my actions permanently.

Yes I have had pcos and insulin resistance be an obstacle but this last month has proven to me my body seems to be working just fine....two weeks of eating reasonably and increased exercise and I lost 10 pounds. Two weeks of eating crap and I only gained half back...seems to me my body was being very forgiving. So now I know what to do, I just have to do it and regardless of what solutions I find to manage my cooking the battle is in my mind. And like you've pointed out so many times, I have to realize the pay offs are way greater than however much I hate preplanning and cooking.

It did help me to know that somebody as on track as you hates it too, lol.

The first and easiest thing I do is identify what doesn't make sense on my list relative to what I want in life. What limits my momentum? What makes me feel worthless? What makes this seem impossible?

Identify them and then right a 'counter-argument' out in a seperate column.

You have to be proactive with this. And you have to believe in what you write. Once you've developed a 'logical' list, then you should be reading it at least daily, it not more frequently.

And you should be paying attention to your self talk and with enough practice, you will get better at catching your limiting thought patterns and replacing them with new, empowering ones.

But again, you have to believe what you're selling.

That doesn't sound too difficult...I need to study for exams today and tomorrow but this weekend I should have some time to sit down and work on that.

So reading in the forum lately I saw in peoples food log tins of baked beans. Power of suggestion I guess because I ended up with a craving for some, lol. I was amazed they're only 140 calories for half a cup so had some for dinner :) That and two hotdogs. Lunch was half a sub sandwich my hubby had in the fridge and a pudding cup. Breakfast was mcdonalds hashbrown and breakfast burritos (learned that from Kristi, lol) my hubby brought home early this morning so

today's calories total 2050

Definitely need to limit the fast food and go grocery shopping tomorrow though. I'm not going to tell myself I can't have something but honestly it's not like most of it even tastes good. And definitely need to stop having fast food be the solution to my lack of planning ahead. If I do end up in a situation where I'm starving and can't wait to eat I'd be better off to stop at a grocery store and get real food from the deli. Then I could pick up groceries while I'm at it, lol. The store near my work has a full salad bar so I'm probably going to be hitting that up from time to time.

just popping in to say hi and see how you're doing. sounds like a good plan to hit the salad bar instead of the drive thru when you get hungry. every little change helps.
take care!

Yummm. I love salad bars! We used to have a place called Souper Salad and the whole restaurant was a gigantic salad and soup bar. It's too bad they don't have it anymore, because that place had EVERYTHING you'd ever want to put in a salad! I also love eating at a deli. I actually just started doing that recently. If you have a Super Target around, try that one out, because they have so much to choose from. I usually get sushi made with brown rice. It tastes just as good as the regular and each piece is only 25 calories. Their salads are already made and they are soo good. Anyway, I lovvve the Target Deli! Just remember that while salad is very healthy, it is very very easy to pack on the calories with cheese, bacon, crackers and noodle salads full of mayo. I for one don't enjoy a salad without cheese, but I just have to remember to go easy on it!

...k, now I want a salad!!

I used to grow most of my own salad vegetables in my backyard in England. I really miss that. I ate a lot of salads when I could step out my back door and assemble one in minutes. Now that I have to buy these huge amounts of ingredients that will never get completely used before they go bad...I don't eat salads much anymore.

Love sushi though, long as there's no seafood involved. :blush5:

Wow, that must have been nice to have a fresh salad right when you wanted it! I hear you on buying big salad stuff only for it to go bad in the veggie bin. I don't know why I keep thinking I can stock up on salads. They get slimy in 2 days! I haven't grown any leafy edible greens, but this summer I grew tomatoes, bell peppers, hycanith beans, strawberries, herbs(mint,oregano,parsley,basil...) and am working on a sad little lemon tree with only 2 lemons on it! Here's a picture of my ginormous sweet potato that I pulled up the other day:
